MGS3 under 57% and plummeting hard

I'm not sure how Earthbound is managing to look bad unless we expect it to be on the level of the SNES classics now

May or may not play it in the near future, but that's one step closer!

quite frankly I think MGS1 is looking amazing

only FFX and MGS1 among the non-SNES games have managed to beat an SNES game

We're finally gonna get a clear and indirect read on MGS and MGS3

sure it might have to come through a SotC/ME2 match but that still counts

Welcome to the League of Stickies.
ME2 still has to get past Starcraft

Starcraft could beat MGS3 though

good man

I might get back to DQ8 after several years as a way to return the favor

I feel pretty good about ME2 winning at this point unless Starcraft gets a rally of substance (which is possible, I guess).

Woooo
I personally prefer 6 and 7 because of my heavy JOB SYSTEM bias, but 8 is a fantastic game too (and probably more up most people's alley)

416 hours for a leisurely completionist run this seems reasonable

DQ7 is the only DQ game I haven't played

Yeah well most DQ games are kinda long.
Time spent playing DQ7 is time well spent. Best DQ game and one of my favorite games of all time.

Play Earthbound
And Dragon Warrior(Quest) 7

is a speed run considered to be if you can beat the game in under 100 hours

Not true! DQ1-6 are reasonable length. DQ7 is when they started getting real big.

DQ7 is like an 80-150 hour game depending on whether you just do the main story or do side quests and stuff. I really love it though because in addition to the job system it has a great system for exploring new places that I haven't seen any other game do (minor spoilers, like a couple hours into the game):
You start off on a small island that is the only landmass in the entire world. A short while into the game you find a shrine with a bunch of pedestals that transport you to other worlds. Upon saving them, you find that they appear in the main world where some amount of time (varies from world to world) has passed since you saved them. As you progress through the game, you continue to expand the world map by saving other lands.

I completionist'd DQ8 pretty leisurely and I think I'd have remembered if I had spent two and a half weeks cumulatively doing it
---
Welcome to the League of Stickies.
DQ7 is perhaps the best single player grind game out there. Its the longest of a series known for having lengthy games
My mostly completionist run (I didn't like max out all jobs or anything, but I did mostly everything else) was at 150 hours.
---
I don't know how much you know about women, but Dr. Pizza is an expert. - The Mana Sword
DQ8 is probably a good 70 hours itself.

And if it took you less than 70 hours then 7 would probably take you less than 100 hours too assuming you play about the same.

Also surprisingly I think the speed run record for 7 is faster than 8. I know 7 got it down to about 13 hours recently

as far as I can tell, WR is sub-16 hours

....jesus christ that is ludicrously long by speedrun standards
The sub 16 record is for the English version

The Japanese version has a sub 13 hour run. Probably more due to player experience than version differences

I played DQ7 a few years ago and it took me about 65 hours to beat. DQ8 was about 55, I think.
Actually I was wrong apparently DQ8 got down to like 12 hours.

Still pretty close to each other.

oh I'm talking about DQ7

anyway games with long unskipable cutscenes are the worst to speedrun
All I remember about DQ8 is moseying along pretty leisurely and doing okay until I suddenly ran into Dhoulmagus and getting my ass handed to me for hours

There was some good stuff after that but it's real weird that they would make the final boss accessible so early in the game

just to make the pain that much more tantalizing I s'pose

Also if we assume oot is the undisputed king(which it is) then feeding the weaker games in its half is the best way to make the contest interesting. That way you have all the potential #2 candidates fighting it out and avoiding being stomped by ocarina early. For example i wouldnt like to see games like mario world melee or rby being fed to ocarina before they meet a chrono trigger ffvi or a ffvii. This is just way better.

No it is not better. In a normal bracket you'd have for instance 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 anyway. Normal brackets are always better, imbalanced brackets suck. Traditional bracket making gives the best possible bracket.

The only game match pic I've ever seen that I think may have made a difference was the entire SSBM cast vs. Tidus' mug. Nothing less than that is going to change anything.

My biggest issue with the contest is the lack if text names. People are literally voting *only* based on pics (and pre-knowledge of the bracket placement). And some pics are hard to make out what game it is.

In one match, one pic was just a white space for me. I'm sure others have seen a glitch like that. I really wish he'd have names below the pictures.

So far I don't think it's mattered, but it's more likely to affect close matches.

You fight him not that far into the game iirc. I believe he was a step up in difficulty, but that is not the final boss fight.

It was an incorrect assumption on your part, but I still appreciate it.

Man MGS might've fallen off but MGS is doing its best right now to make MGS3 > MGS seem as impossible as it possibly can

Too bad there's an ME2 in the way at this rate so we can't see it happen directly

Still pretty worried about ME2. It really needs to build a decent buffer here.

...well not really since if StarCraft gets past ME2 and MGS3 it'll be bandwagoned to hell making transitive evaluations kinda useless

Starcraft stalling OH YES
11/27/2015 11:28:43 PM#144
Starcraft only being able to stall right now isn't really a great sign because the night vote was its best time last round as well as ME2's worst.

If it gets a "real" rally, it'll win. Without one, it has no shot. At this point, the odds of a real rally seem low.

Nick has a rally on reddit. It has gained a bit of traction; I'm guessing it's pulled in on the order of 100 votes (hence the stalling).
