The "sequence breaking" is organic, not mostly a result of jump boosting or other overlooked things/glitches. What a weird contest. This is basically SNES VS 1998 VS 2015. In our defense about Super Metroid, we saw Mario Kart 64 lose hard to Goldeneye and Super Mario RPG in 2009: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/3484-division-4-round-2-goldeneye-s-mario-rpg-ff7-mariokart64 It's a weird match for a bunch of reasons, but I'm not sure most of us would have taken any of those three games to win against Super Mario Galaxy. After SM barely beat SMK twice and knowing Metroid's SFF-history, I think we had our reasons to doubt the Mario Kart-series. Glad to see they have real potential though! I'm an idiot (when I mentioned the LttP/FFIV trends). The later-day
vote is often not as anti-night vote as the morning vote. Also, did you know that if we extrapolate from Shenmue and Oblivion from Game of the Decade, that SMRPG is expected to beat GTAV with somewhere around 70%? I hope SMRPG can do that, though the low 60's certainly feels more right. 70% would put GTAV quite a bit below the other games in the series... though GTAV might very well be the weakest GTA participant. --- "Ah, a party! the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter has successfully resurrected the Shenmue
franchise. It's not exactly a powerhouse, but it's popularity has
probably gone up at least a little since the last contest. --- Yay - Raytan is the guru champion of awesomeness. |

ROUND 2 – DAY 7 – ALL OF DIVISION 7 Match LXXXIX: (1) Grand Theft Auto V vs. (9) Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars Previous Rounds Grand Theft Auto V 62.35% against Shenmue Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars 54.43% against The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Analysis In hindsight Grand Theft Auto V’s performance shouldn’t have been that shocking. It’s both a new and GTA game, what do you expect? There is a chance that Shenmue may be a bit stronger since the last time we saw it due to the kickstarter doing so well, but I think this mostly has to do with Grand Theft Auto V being weak. Honestly I feel Oblivion was Super Mario RPG’s toughest opponent in this half of the division. Oblivion is one of those exceptions of newish (is almost 10 years still new?) games with strength. A constant Shenmue places Grand Theft Auto V at around the mid-30s against Super Mario RPG so I suspect the game to get around there. charmander6000’s Bracket: Super Mario RPG > Grand Theft Auto V charmander6000’s Prediction: Super Mario RPG wins, 63.79% - 36.21% Match XC: (5) Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas vs. (13) Chrono Cross Previous Rounds Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas 61.28% against Shovel Knight Chrono Cross 58.06% against World of Warcraft Analysis While Shovel Knight is a new game it does use old school nostalgia as its main selling point and I can see that attracting a lot of GameFAQs type people. Still San Andreas has never looked decent in one of these contests and losing to Chrono Cross would just be another thing that would only happen on GameFAQs. Chrono Cross did pretty well against World of Warcraft and has built up a nice little gap for San Andreas to fit in. Despite the laughable performances by San Andreas I would still take the game over World of Warcraft, though I suspect that the match will be close. Match XCI: (3) The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt vs. (6) Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty Previous Rounds The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt 74.17% against The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty 56.76% against Resident Evil Analysis While The Witcher 3 looked quite impressive last round this more or less has to do with The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth being weak. There have been some mild calls for an upset here given how down everyone is on Metal Gear Solid, but MGS2 didn’t perform so badly last round. Resident Evil does have strength as seen previously and it has been well known that Metal Gear Solid 2 is nowhere near the strength of MGS and MGS3. Don’t trust the Shadow of the Colossus match. I think the fact that The Witcher 3 is a new game is putting people off of the potential of an upset. I can see the game having a decent performance, but a relatively unknown series taking on Metal Gear Solid 2 just doesn’t scream upset. charmander6000’s Bracket: Metal Gear Solid 2 > The Witcher 3 charmander6000’s Prediction: Metal Gear Solid 2 wins, 58.83% - 41.17% Match XCII: (7) Fallout: New Vegas vs. (2) Resident Evil 4 Previous Rounds Fallout: New Vegas 55.93% against BioShock Infinite Resident Evil 4 58.87% against Paper Mario Analysis This is going to be one of those instances where the winner will outperform its previous round percentage. Some people were quick to spell doom for Resident Evil 4, but they mostly have forgotten that Paper Mario has decent strength, was worth much more than a 15 seed and could ultimately end up as the fourth or fifth strongest game of the division. Personally I would take Resident Evil 4 over Fallout 3 so I don’t see how Fallout: New Vegas would be able to compete.
