Achromatic posted... To be fair older games have been impressing, maybe Tetris got stronger? I guess we'll see. I don't know if it got much stronger in particular, but people have absolutely been underestimating it, likely mostly because of the Zelda 1 match, which probably had some old game SFF or whatever. I've been arguing for this before and especially after the RBY/Tetris match and everything seems to point in that direction. In any case, Tetris is somewhat legit, there's no way RBY underperformed in round 1, then SMB3 did in round 2 (pre-rally). Unfortunately, the Undertale rally has likely prevented me from completely resting my case, because RBY's showings from here on out can all be excused by rally, rally backfire and in the case it gets out of the division, a bandwagon and/or boost from having gotten past such a crazy division. --- My old signature was really outdated. I haven't thought of a proper new one yet. |
Well,
Tetris didn't look that good in 2009 either, even before Mario 1 and
Zelda 1 ground it into a fine powder. I wasn't too impressed with the
number it put up on Mega Man 2. Tetris is a fine mid-tier game. It'd beat a lot of things. I don't know if I'd take it to beat FFIV, FFVIII, or FFT though. It'd probably be close if it doesn't win, but that doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room for R/B/Y to be stronger than World, 64, or LttP. --- http://i.imgur.com/3DwCNLJ.gif |

I'd
expect Tetris to always look better against games not from its own
generation. I wouldn't pick it against those games either, although it
would be a 55-45 kind of match I think. It still gives Tetris room to
exceed the general idea of its strength that people here had. I also do
expect RBY to be very close to World, 64 and LttP. Picking it to the
finale was considering a bandwagon effect that gave it the edge in the

I just checked the results. This is what I have to say. 1st match=Hope FF 4 can evade a doubling! 2nd match=Didn't expected that to tell the truth. 3rd match=Samus>Mario? What is going on? 4th match=Seems FF 12 will not evade a doubling. Old>new. Who could have expected that? 2 matches wrong for me today. expected old>new in general, but not as extreme as we've seen. I
still expected DKC2 to lose, and thought Galaxy wouldn't be that much of
a victim as well as thought Super Metroid wasn't as strong as it's

Super Metroid result makes me feel even better about CT > FFX.
Series name value isn't everything. Oh yeah, and SNES. Plus throw in the
actual performances so far, and I'm feeling pretty confident about CT

bracket's pretty terrible this year (I have Skyrim in the finals, I'm
pretty much dead in the water) but I'm actually going to get 8 points
today so I'm happy for the small things like calling two minor upsets

Wow, 2 things surprise me about todays matches. - How the hell was Super Metroid winning here a 23% Guru upset? This seemed like one of the most obvious Round 2 matches. - How the hell is MGSV so weak? Undertale
is going to get buried under MGSV and Witcher 3 at best, and probably
also under Splatoon and Xenoblade. Can't imagine anyzone's gonna bother

Without
any rallying, Undertale gets crushed by a bunch of games in the GotY
polls. It all comes down to if Undertale gets rallied in any of the
GotY polls it appears in. Given how crazy the fanbase is, it wouldn't
surprise me. Even without a Tumblr rally, it could still get rallied on

Incredible gameplay, awesome mechanics. After that it all falls apart. The 2nd half of the game is extremely unsatisfying and I cant remember a game ever disappointing me as much as that. It had everything in place to be one of the best games of all time and instead it screwed everything up. Really it should have been simple. Show the fall of Big Boss(this was completely falsely advertised in trailers), complete the time line and wrap up the series. Additionally, instead of previous MGS games being 50/50 in terms of gameplay/story, MGSV should have been 65/35. Instead it ended up almost 95/5 of favor of gameplay and the story ended up being an afterthought in a series renowned for its storytelling. Its also about expectations. I wanted and expected to play as Big Boss, a character I know and like and a character that needed another game to fill in the gaps. Instead I ended up playing as a strange shell of a character. Venom Snake ended being distant and just downright weird in most of his cut-scenes. Miller is also basically irrelevant and Ocelot does nothing at all during the entire game. Yes Kojima had his own little story and message to parade but like MGS 2 I feel it comes at the expense of the game he's making. I think it says it all when I have finished MGS, MGS 3 multiple times in the last few years and I probably wont ever play MGSV again. (edited 11/26/2015 8:19:38 AM)report |

Dang, the day/night vote disparity between Link to the Past and Final Fantasy IV is huge. Link to the Past only got 60.88% between hour 4 and hour 7. Over the past three hours, Link to the Past got 67.59% of the vote. --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So... what is a party?" Too much open barren spaces with nothing , same outpost with same soldiers patrolling etc. Even the side ops were the same over and over. Extract prisoner, destroy Tanks unit...repeat. The gameplay mechanics are solid, but the missions and setting were a huge letdown. I beat the game a month ago and I barely remember any of the story missions. On the other hand MGS1, MGS2 and MGS3 all have some of the best and most memorable settings and missions. GranzonEx MGSV is the best in the series. I can see why people would be butthurt about it though. so it's not possible that people who dislike the game have some valid criticisms and are just "butthurt" fanboys? how old are you? 11?
