Rallies
and outside voters have been in every single contest, dating all the
way back to 2002. Why is it suddenly a problem? Compare the poll of the
day votes to contest votes. You know full well most of that comes from
outside the site. I legitimately don't understand the sentiment here. Contests are not "ruined". Other sites are just bigger now, so the rallies have more power. So Ulti is: -Fully supportive of this rally. Fair enough, Undertale's an awesome game. Personally I voted Fallout 3 despite never having played it to try to stop the rally but hey! Opinions! -Celebrating over Undertale pulling in completely ridiculous update. -Posting ridiculous things about how Undertale has no chance to win the contest or even next round that he has to know aren't true. difference is that rallies didn't typically matter except in close
matches until L-Block , and even then it didn't become widespread until

I see some people talking as if Undertale will be the underdog vs. SMW. I'm pretty confident Undertale will be the Oracle favorite there. Pokemon is where it'll be the underdog. Evil vs evil. There is no 'this match without the rally'. The rally has been going almost from the very beginning of this match! Mass Effect 3 had 65% of the vote 15 minutes in. FO3 had 70% of the vote 15 minutes in. Is anyone going to be ridiculous enough to argue ME3 is that close to FO3? Really? RBY/SMB3 was going basically 50/50 after the initial surge of bracket votes, and we could have seen that for a good long while had it not been the rally spillover starting almost immediately. It's been going on all freaking day. Undertale is not worth 45% on FO3, it's not worth 40%, it's not worth 35%, it's not worth 30%. spend two years coming into this thread every now and then and watching
people crying that the site is dieing and that votals are shrinking. And then when someone tries to do something to make contests (and the site) more popular, everyone complains. People, the old times when you could get hundreds of thousands of JRPG fans voting everyday are over. Those people stopped coming here, and there isn't a hidden place in the internet with thousands of Final Fantasy fans waiting to discover this site and increase the votals without changing the old trends. That ship has sailed. We have two options. We either let the site keep shrinking and become an island isolated from mainstream gaming until it dies... or we bring new blood. And new blood will have new tastes. Granted, most of those people who rally don't stick around. But this is the closest I see from an actual attempt at growing gameFAQs. During the rest of the year, the site just dies slowly. And if Allen were to attempt new ways of getting new users to browse here, they would also come with different tastes. I'm all for rallies but not ones that are this huge. There should be a limit of votes proportional to the gamefaqs community %. Those other sites and things have their own contests once in a while. Why should they interfere with ours? Also if Undertale wins this thing we won't have another contest ever again and if we do noone will care anymore. It's going to ruin the heart and soul of the contest thats been here for the last 15 years. I want users of Gfaqs to determine whats popular. If users here shift towards more mainstream games then so be it. You can laugh all you want and say "lets deal with it" but the reality is what does this mean for future Gfaqs contests? There won't be any. And if there is it wont' be the same. |

gonna lie, there's something inherently funny about Bacon making rules
specifically to prevent a rally from turning fodder into crushing
everything on the site, and hyping up this contest so much... People view the contest differently and get enjoyment/interest in it different ways. I'm with you on this, but others aren't.
