expected whatever survived RBY/SMB3/SMW/SM64 to beat FFVII because
FFVII choking is just what it does nowadays, and took RBY because I felt
better about it beating all three Marios than I did about picking which

I have a slight suspicion that Pokemon isn't necessarily benefitting from an Undertale Tumblr rally as people may think. Sure, Mario World lost out hard to Animal Crossing when that happened, but that doesn't strictly mean that they're anti-Mario. You also have to keep in mind that Tumblr breathes Animal Crossing much harder than literally any other Nintendo franchise. Where else do you think all the people who buy it are? Even the Tomodachi Life fanbase is located there (if it didn't then the backlash obviously wouldn't have happened), and Animal Crossing is basically that plus furry appeal and, if sales are any indication, more mass appeal too.
