LeonhartFour posted... Those are completely arbitrary figures though. It's possible these would have been more popular polls as it is. Well you'll like the one I just posted a lot more...! These aren't ironclad or anything, just throwing out numbers. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
nope to that one too - FFX wasn't even that high during the board vote. --- xyzzy |
No way was FFX trending that high. Even at its very best, FFX was pulling in less than 58% with the night vote. --- http://i.imgur.com/3DwCNLJ.gif |
Hmm I didn't see that reddit rally. That's why Smash Melee went up... (edited 11/21/2015 5:15:54 PM)report |
I
do think that without any rallies, Melee gets an even 56% on GSC.
That's pretty much what it was projected to get in GotD so I don't think
this result is anything special. FFX...well, hey, if Arkham City is equal to Arkham Asylum from 2010 then it's looking amazing! Haha...ha... --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
lol at Melee dropping .01% 4 consecutive updates |
you dirty filthy ralliers |
ROUND 2 – DAY 2 – ALL OF DIVISION 2 Match LXIX: (1) Final Fantasy VI vs. (8) Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Previous Rounds Final Fantasy VI 77.03% against Assassin’s Creed II Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door 51.87% against Tales of Symphonia Analysis Final Fantasy VI looked really impressive, even if you take an Assassin’s Creed II drop into account. The game looks set to take on Wind Waker before proving what it is really worth on Final Fantasy VII. While it was a bit closer than I anticipated Paper Mario: TTYD was able to use the day vote to finish ahead of Tales of Symphonia. The game has no chance to win here, but it may give us an idea on to what Final Fantasy VI is capable of. Looking at the x-stats Wind Waker is expected to get 60.73% on Paper Mario: TTYD. I feel FFVI will finish significantly higher than that. charmander6000’s Bracket: Final Fantasy VI > Paper Mario: TTYD charmander6000’s Prediction: Final Fantasy VI wins, 64.52% - 35.48% Match LXX: (5) Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic vs. (4) The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Previous Rounds Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 53.65% against Xenogears The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker 72.60% against Pokemon XY Analysis Xenogears looked quite impressive in its lost last round and while this is the first time it was given a fair match I can’t help, but think some of this performance was due to KotOR being weaker. It doesn’t make complete sense since the game is old enough to avoid the drop off seen by last gen games, but watching Halo completely bomb does put the thought on whether that was a Halo or Xbox thing. Regardless of the answer Wind Waker should have no issue winning this match. Whether or not it SFF Pokemon XY is up for debate, but the game has always shown it has strength. I still consider Wind Waker an upset potential for next round, but I feel it would have to out-perform FFVI if it wants to have a chance. charmander6000’s Bracket: LoZ: The Wind Waker > Star Wars: KotOR charmander6000’s Prediction: LoZ: The Wind Waker wins, 62.42% - 37.58% --- BGE3: Today's Matches CT>Persona 3, FFX>Batman: AC, SSBM>Pokemon GSC, KH2>TLoU Points 57/64 |
Match LXXI: (3) Super Smash Bros. for Wii U vs. (11) Mass Effect Previous Rounds Super Smash Bros. for Wii U 79.05% against Planescape: Torment Mass Effect 50.83% against Super Mario Galaxy 2 Analysis This is the only match where my winner didn’t even reach the match and I still maintain that the upset would have happened. Super Smash Bros. looked good last round, but the fact of the matter is that we have no idea on the strength of Planescape, it literally had its first poll last round. Honestly anyone with strength could have crushed it for all we know. The main reason for my doubt in Super Smash Bros. is that it is a Wii U game. Wii U and new games overall have flopped quite badly this contest and while Super Smash Bros. is a likely candidate to being an exception it was never going to be anywhere near Melee. Name recognition can only get you so far, just ask Mario. Of course SSBWiiU has a lot of breathing room to work with; Mass Effect was worth around 36% on Melee during Game of the Decade and there’s a chance it could be weaker this contest. The one thing that could have made a difference was Cloud’s announcement to Smash, especially if the match ends up being close or the potential of a rally. charmander6000’s Bracket: Super Mario Galaxy > Super Smash Bros. for Wii U charmander6000’s Prediction: Mass Effect wins, 53.62% - 46.38% Match LXXII: (10) Halo: Combat Evolved vs. (2) Final Fantasy VII Previous Rounds Halo: Combat Evolved 56.72% against Minecraft Final Fantasy VII 84.07% against Journey Analysis Halo along with Halo 3 looked pretty bad this contest and with a match against a potential finalist things could end up looking worse. I have little faith that Minecraft has any strength on this site, especially since no rallying occurred. The funny thing is Final Fantasy VII won’t have to worry about any potential for anti-votes since it is up against a game arguably more hated than it. This could get quite ugly given what Halo 3 is shaping up to look like, I wouldn’t be surprised if FFVII easily broke 80%. charmander6000’s Bracket: Final Fantasy VII > Halo charmander6000’s Prediction: Final Fantasy VII wins, 79.83% - 20.17% --- BGE3: Today's Matches CT>Persona 3, FFX>Batman: AC, SSBM>Pokemon GSC, KH2>TLoU Points 57/64 |
transience posted... _SJimW_ posted...transience posted...Smash, in general, has been on the decline from the sky high point it was at around 06-07 when Brawl hype was insane and nobody characters were above the fodder line. today, while Smash is just as popular or moreso globally, it doesn't quite hit the peak of where we were then. when was the last Smash topic we had discussing the game? I see a few topics here and there about doing an online match but otherwise it's pretty quiet. Smash just doesn't have the relevance on GameFAQs that it did once upon a time. put a game contest in '08 or so and Smash is absolutely a top 5 game. I was here but I didn't really follow contests until 2013. From what I can gather what happens on GameFAQs as a forum and what happens on these polls doesn't really correlate, hence why Suikoden beat MH. I think Smash has definitely fallen because of the lack of Brawl hype since that's something that affected the internet as a whole, but my other point is that I think that Brawl hype is only what made up a small portion of Smash's strength. Today's results support this since Melee is doing pretty well anyways. --- RIP in Pieces GamerJM, 2007-2015. You will be missed. #UnPermabanJim |
I
had some tentative confidence in Mass Effect, but looking at that Melee
rally it's going to link to the next match when it comes up. Unless
SSB4 is straight up reviled by the Smash community for some reason I
can't imagine that doing anything but giving Smash 4 another reason to
have cushion enough to stave off an upset. --- Welcome to the League of Stickies. |

Thing
is, even granting the possibility of SSB4 being generally hated by
r/Smash, there's too much priming going on in that rally thread. It
talks about Melee. It says it's linking to Melee. Every reply in the
thread is talking about Melee or the contest in general. By the time a
voter gets to seeing http://img.gamefaqs.net/images/bge20/25.jpg there's a really big probability that they'll just automatically click Vote and lock in their selection without thinking too much about it. They do studies based on this kind of thing! --- Welcome to the League of Stickies. |
I'd
have seriously considered ME1 had it beaten Galaxy 1 instead of Galaxy
2. I think it'll do well, but I have a hard time seeing it winning. That
would make Smash 4 a lot weaker than Melee or Brawl ever were. --- http://i.imgur.com/3DwCNLJ.gif |
Yeah
I didn't even bring up the possibility that SSB4 is just a tier above
ME before even getting into rallying. Being essentially equal to SMG2
doesn't inspire massive reservoirs of faith in a game. But dangit I had to pick against Smash 4 don't you understand it's so lame --- Welcome to the League of Stickies. |
r/smashbros
is like half Melee fans half Smash 4 fans, but the Smash 4 fans aren't
as passionate, additionally basically everyone there likes the games
from a competitive standpoint. Which means that the Smash 4 fans usually
at least like Melee, they just don't get into it as much as they do
Smash 4 for one reason or another, whereas the Melee fans don't usually
care for Smash 4. This is just casual observation and the tl;dr is that
the sub could probably rally for either game but a Melee rally would be
more effective. --- RIP in Pieces GamerJM, 2007-2015. You will be missed. #UnPermabanJim |

The
vocal minority is just that, vocal. There were plenty of people in the
r/LoL reddit threads dissing the rally threads, though the schadenfreude
in messing with the board (which I think you could access significantly
more easily than you can today) kinda outweighed that. In any event, you can't say the r/Smash rally doesn't have an effect. The inflated votals, if nothing else, are conclusive evidence otherwise. --- Welcome to the League of Stickies. |

haven't been around for most of this day's matches and only got around
to voting less than 5 hours ago. When I saw the updates for the Melee
match, I was a bit surprised at the massive percentage increase for
Melee during the day vote and it seems like a rally was the cause for
this increase (based on what I read in this topic). Also, I'm a bit surprised that TLoU has turned out to be even weaker than MGS4 in strength.
