inb4 Smash 4 gets rallied and we have Melee/Smash 4 QFs
you know, I wonder if r/smashbros can bury smash 4.

I dunno, there's definitely spillover, I'm pretty sure the other matches are also well over their R1 equivalents
oh, right, this is a weekend match which will change things from Melee/Portal. that helps explain the 1-5p jump a little but not enough to convince me. I'll look at a weekend match in a bit.

I disagree (unless someone corrects me), just by seeing MMX putting a freaking 45% on FFX. I don't think that's normal at all.
---
Wild raytan appeared! He chose Samus > Mario. It's... super effective?
Yeah, I think MMX's overperformance can be explained at least partially by rally spillover. Not enough to stop FFX from being a disappointment, but it's not in danger of losing to like Link's Awakening or whatever.

Welcome to the League of Stickies.
MMX was doing that well from the beginning of the match though!

I think MMX was already putting up 45%.

There's probably a spillover but not as much as the Undertale rally. Melee/GSC has roughly 1500 more votes than the other matches.

MMX always beasts early and the Power Hour will jump all over FFX when given the opportunity. Like I said, FFX is still disappointing, but without the spillover it would be a touch higher I'd wager; this rally thread's been up for over 14 hours.

this isn't a major effort. maybe 1000-2000 votes? the thing is, that could absolutely turn the chrono trigger match.

Really? The 4 matches last Saturday and the 4 matches the Saturday before that both only averaged 28,000 votes by 5 PM

This is like over 7000 votes ahead of that

A refusal of praise is a desire to be praised twice.
A rally for Melle? It really sucks when you are on an opposing end of a rally...twice! Okay I know that Pokemon would lose without the rally too, but I thought it could score around 43% at least.
---
Why do we exist? What happens when we stop existing?
The big worry for CT is this match was a foregone conclusion - in the CT showdown that rally's gonna be ready from the jump, and there are other sources to rally Smash from that aren't r/Smash.

Right now its best hope seems to be that it's just clean out of Melee's league.
---
Welcome to the League of Stickies.
this match is also Chrono Trigger, Melee, Pokemon, Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts though.

or maybe the rallying is just not as one-sided? either way, we should have noticed it a long while ago instead of shrugging and just saying it was a good day vote.

I think Melee has the most rally potential in the bracket, the scene for Melee has grown tremendously in the last two years and the lack of online play forcing you to meet other players via Facebook/Twitter/Reddit has created a really strong social media presence. r/smashbros is extremely active, and a tweet from a top player could reach an absurd amount of potential votes.
---

Ugh, one successful rally and everyone thinks they can do it.

Good think this won't actually affect anything, but it still makes me shake my head.

pj stop whining. You should be rallying literally every game in the bracket whether you want to or not. The fact that you don't like rallying merely hurts site traffic and the fact that you aren't busting your balls to get more Virtue's Last Reward fans out of the depths of the Internet and onto GameFAQs just shows that you aren't truly what's important to this contest and also pretend I am a Level 30 user or something.

Melee rallies are an intrinsic part of its strength and part of the reason I picked it at the last minute. Like I said before, there is still a sizable competitive community that is rabid about Melee.

Still think CT holds a slight edge right now but a decent rally could save Melee.

From what I've found, most communities don't really care about a popularity contest as a whole. LoL Reddit and Undertale Tumblr was a rare occasion where they did.

Melee isn't as big as it used to be on GameFAQs... if you count it at the precipice of Brawl hype, pre-Brawl's release. I'm confident it would have smoked CT at that time.

No, and I would agree that Melee isn't as popular on GameFAQs, but it has more potential to draw strength from outside sources than it previously did.

What reason is there to believe SSBM isn't as popular here as it was before? Even if you think SSB4 isn't that popular that only affects SSB4. I don't see why that would hurt SSBM. SSB4's limiting factors are recency and the fact that the primary version is on the Wii U. Maybe it will get exposed as a fraud, but I think it's going to end the contest looking pretty good for what it has to deal with.

Smash, in general, has been on the decline from the sky high point it was at around 06-07 when Brawl hype was insane and nobody characters were above the fodder line. today, while Smash is just as popular or moreso globally, it doesn't quite hit the peak of where we were then. when was the last Smash topic we had discussing the game? I see a few topics here and there about doing an online match but otherwise it's pretty quiet. Smash just doesn't have the relevance on GameFAQs that it did once upon a time. put a game contest in '08 or so and Smash is absolutely a top 5 game.

I was thinking more along the lines of relative to one of it's contest years. I could see SSBM peaking due to SSBB hype before returning to a normal level of strength after it wore off. GotD was already over two years after the release of SSBB.

In fact let's math this out!

In WW/Pokemon there were 31755 votes by 8 PM. Right now there's 39651 votes. That's an extra 7896 votes.

Assume an...85-15 split for the rallied votes, so 6772 for Melee and 1154 for GSC. Remove those and you get...

Melee - 17067 votes - 53.73%
GSC - 14699 votes - 46.27%

Those are completely arbitrary figures though. It's possible these would have been more popular polls as it is.

Melee only getting 54% on G/S/C? I don't feel like it was trending in that direction. Melee was bleeding overnight but it would've stopped once daybreak arrived.

I don't think you can adjust Melee because it's hard to tell. this match hasn't really moved that significantly since about noonish. I think rally-free this is probably 56-57% but how do you know?

And FFX/MMX for good measure.

In WW/Pokemon there were 31755 votes by 8 PM. In MMX/FFX there were 38008 votes as of 8 PM. That's an extra 6253 votes.

If you assume the rally spillover went 65-35 in favor of Mega Man X, that's an extra 4064 votes for MMX and an extra 2189 votes for FFX. Remove those and you get...

Final Fantasy X - 18922 votes - 59.59%
Mega Man X - 12833 votes - 40.41%

Black Turtle did a pretty good job.
