Crono
losing to Pikachu (I'd say it probably would have happened even 1-on-1
thanks to pokerallies) wasn't important given how powerful Pokemon was
that contest. The thing to note was that Crono ended up looking very
close in strength to Cloud. Now take into account that Crono only really
has his one game while Cloud has cameos, crossovers, and spinoffs all
over the place. Frog also pretty badly embarrassed Cloud here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/5237-character-battle-ix-division-5-round-2-cloud-vs-frog-vs And I mean, if people had just wanted to anti-vote FFVII there was a Pokemon right there! Not a strong one or one from the preferred generation but a Pokemon all the same. Then we saw Chrono Trigger make the #1 spot on DDJ's The List and then it got the overall 1 seed this contest. You are smart so why did you laugh at this? We had a huge top 100 list from 2014 which showed that Chrono Trigger and OoT are the two games who are top 5 material to more people than any other game. I mean Board 8 knew CT would get a high seed and it still was one of our most nominated game behind Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Persona 4. Only OoT had a chance to get more nominations than CT without an putside rally. I still doubt Chrono Trigger can beat Melee tough. --- Ngamer64: Zylo, you're making less sense every day. Hmm, been discussing this on AIM over the old boost. Is there a clear cutoff date for which games have received the old boost, or is this a case where console generation matters? Strong games on PS2/Gamecube platforms haven't really exceeded expectations, but games on anything prior to those systems have looked even stronger than normal. think Melee still has a good chance because Nintendo simply has a knack
for "summoning it" that Square does not. Chrono Trigger should easily
get by FFX - possibly riding its old school Nintendo support to victory -
and then stumble against Melee when that same Nintendo support abandons
it. I wouldn't be surprised if it looks very similar to the Snake/Samus

Trigger really is taking advantage of both games being under the
Square-Enix umbrella, same genre, same art, it just has all the cards

I just checked the results. This is what I have to say. 1st match=Man CT! Okay DQ 8 is weak and they are both JRPG so it makes sense. Still though. 2nd match=FF X is doing bad. CT has this easily! 3rd match=Pokemon really good! Too bad it faced a Smash game, otherwise it would advance a lot further. 4th match=KH 2 is way stronger than KH. Nice. JRPG faqs man! Melee
definitely has a chance, the problem is that picking Melee to win a
division worked so well in GOTD so I just couldn't do it. Also losing to Mario 64 just passes the eye test better than losing to Majora's Mask or Brawl. Also it's weird that we all keep bringing up Super Metroid struggling against Mario Kart as a sign of its weakness, yet no one mentions Metroid Prime losing to a GTA game in that same contest and plenty assume it has a chance to beat Skyrim. Melee
hasn't given me any real reason to believe it can beat Chrono Trigger,
not without going back in old contests. CT has faced weak competition so
far, but it hasn't faltered. And if we're talking about old games
boosting, niche games like EarthBound benefiting from the site as it is
now, it's hard for me to not extend that to games like CT and FF6, too.
Most importantly, Chrono Trigger is that shortlist all-time game that
Smash Bros. isn't. I don't mean top X necessarily, but as an intangible
that works with the old game thing, that helps. I also think the Smash
