Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~ SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense. Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. hundred heroes of warcraft arrayed themselves in a defensive formation,
ready to strike, waiting for their foe. Though they tried to hide it,
the crowd filling the stands above could see the fear written in their
faces, the utter terror. Then he entered the stadium. Alone. The one. This year, the competition had instituted a new rule- each world's representative could select a team to bring with him to the battle. Most captains had chosen to bring entire armies. Indeed, a massive fleet of intergalactic carriers floated in the skies, awaiting their turn. But not the one. The one had brought no one with him. No one had seen anyone the one had brought, and many had thought he was keeping his team a secret. But there was no one with the champion, the tyrant, as he walked into the stadium. Nor did he bear any weapons. He was dressed only in his trademark simple green tunic, the relic of an earlier time. There was no shield on his back, no sword in his hand, no scabbard, no bow, nothing. He did not speak. He simply walked forward, each step taking him closer to the fortifications of the hundred heroes. There was no variation in his step, no sign that anything in reality could alter the pace of his footsteps. The one walked forward. And the first hero bowed. Swiftly, all the rest prostrated themselves on the ground. A flag showing three golden triangles atop a set of wings was raised over the stadium. And Link continued his walk at the same pace, reaching the other side of the area and disappearing through the doors. Man
looking at this (while FFX should at least push the percentages out by
the time it's all said and done) I can't help but think of another
silver lining for FFX not winning GOTD; this would be one heck of a fall
from grace if it had. (Un)fortunately we still have time to see that with MM which half the board has put a CRAZY amount of faith into based on GOTD apparently --- Welcome to the League of Stickies. |

Maybe Brawl rSFFed Melee in GotD! Most of the people who loved Brawl back then and preferred it to Melee still really liked Melee and would have usually voted for it against outside competition. Whereas a lot of the big Melee fans hated Brawl and were generally a lot less likely to vote for it no matter who its opponent was! --- [NO BARKLEY NO PEACE] |

The DANGER is for Majora's Mask if a game that it is literally dead equal to is getting 55% on Mega Man X Do you think Super Metroid would fail to break 55% on Mega Man X (I don't think there are any good ways to measure Super Metroid, it's always stuck facing - and underwhelming - in matches with lots of Nintendo) --- Welcome to the League of Stickies. |

for anyone reading this and getting a laugh if/when FFX murders MMX
overnight, I refuse to act reasonably when a third-tier SNES game that
got its ass kicked by Link's Awakening is putting almost 45% on the only

Super Metroid beats Majora's Mask (assuming it beats galaxy, because
why not) I will do something crazy. Because Metroid has always gotten

G/S/C will probably end up with 44-45% here. There was this game that once scored 55% on G/S/C despite being LFFed by FFT, sad that its series has completely fallen off the cliff, otherwise it could do some damage. --- Man is not the creature of circumstances. believe OOT was right around a doubling against FFX, with Brawl and
MGS4 in the poll. OOT was probably hurt a little more, but that poll

Something I've thought of regarding Mario Kart is that it's done well in multi-way polls and flopped horribly 1-on-1. I mean part of that's just coincidence (SMK and MK64 are certainly going to be stronger than the later games and happened to end up in the fourway contest whereas DS, Wii, and MK8 got 1-on-1) but then you've also got this: www.gamefaqs.com/poll/2438-ultima-division-round-1-mega-man-vs-mario-kart www.gamefaqs.com/poll/4427-which-franchise-that-started-on-the-snes-is-your-all-time If the four-way format favored Mario Kart, that would make Super Metroid's two near-draws against SMK look better. kinda doubt it because Super Metroid does have a tendency to look bad
whenever it faces Nintendo. CoD4 isn't the barometer test to prove Super
Metroid is suddenly now able to handle Nintendo when it couldn't do so

Why
are people still using GSC to judge RBY's chances? Not only has gen I
proved itself much stronger before, GSC is also doing about what we'd
expect. 60-40 in SMB3's favor? Cmon Ulti, there is no way SMB3 would
terrorize Melee and it'd need to for that result to be true. Actually, today's result makes me feel pretty good about RBY. I'll look like an idiot if it loses after how much I've defended it. it's been a while since Leon and I both wanted Europe to alter a match so much I love MMX but FFX should be at like 60-40 here ffs --- I'll be honest, those kind of statistics are alarming to me, and I have no idea how to respond. - ChaosTony Be judged by the seven stars. |
Super
Mario Galaxy actually is a really good test for Super Metroid. It's
definitely the strongest modern (i.e., 2000s) Mario game, but it's still
quite a ways below the elite Nintendo games. The generational gap of
old and new should favor Super Metroid as we've seen so far. If Super

a much as I love FFX, it pleases me to see MMX do this well. I hate
that I didn't go through with Chrono Trigger when I almost picked it the
last day aagainst Melee. The other matches I think are close to what I

GSC
is not doing bad here at all. It's already higher than it was against
RBY and its going to end significantly higher once the night vote does
its work. Melee will end up not far from Majora, just as the GOTD

fodder should it? It obviously stomps journey. CT is going to the

If its CoD4 beatdown were the only evidence so far, I'd agree with you. But you can't ignore what other SNES games, even obviously weaker ones like MMX, are doing this contest. Super Metroid vs. Galaxy is starting to look like Samus vs. Zelda.
