MGS3 would need, what kind of performance to make people consider putting it in the semis? Tripling Mother 3? e: I use a tripling as the benchmark because that's what Metroid Prime was projected to get on it roughly in GOTD and I know it'd be getting argued to the semis if it was in this division, also I figure Mother 3 has gotten stronger as its emulation has become more widespread. --- Welcome to the League of Stickies. MGS3
was already projected to triple Mother 3 back in 2010, and Mother 3 is
overrated in those stats thanks to being in Prime's division. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |

The
thing about Mother 3 is that it has a dedicated enough fanbase that it
will probably be hard to really blow out. So if Metal Gear Solid 3 get
an unimpressive score like something around 70 it'll have that excuse. But to look like it can beat MGS1? It'd would need to score pretty high. Several percent above whatever MGS1 ends up getting on Earthbound, anyway. --- Any sound can shake the air. My voice shakes the heart! -Sho Minamimoto |

Statistically speaking, VLR would be weaker than 999, but I doubt there's a strength disparity between the two. It's not like the first game would get "respect votes", like how the first Phoenix Wright is stronger than T&T. They're probably about the same. Solid Snake broke 94% on an opponent - in a year where he was arguably not even a Top Ten character. With a theoretically weak enough draw, Mass Effect 2 could break 90%. I'd
certainly dispute the proposition myself but arguing the relative
contest strength a character held in a contest that happened more than
10 years ago where most of the extrapolation was half unusable due to
the massive SFF seems marginally less worthwhile than me just making a

Today
is making me want to play Earthbound (I've never played for more than
like 20 minutes of it) more than ever. The problem is that I don't
believe in illegal emulation, so that method is out.... so I either have
to fork over $100 for the cartridge or buy a Wii U..... neither I'm
willing to do right now as I have school debts to pay off still.... Wow, my prediction for EB vs. BL was horribly off. It seems whenever I make a prediction about anything the day before the match in CS&D I will always be wrong. At least I'm #5 in the Oracle (as of yesterday), hrhr. How weak could Borderlands 2 be? I wouldn't be surprised if Earthbound got the biggest boost of any old game... --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So... what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think." |
Well it doesn't help that the only usable data from Earthbound in a contest is its 2004 match against Doom. I mean I guess you have Ness's performances but it's not really the same thing --- A refusal of praise is a desire to be praised twice. |

Mother 3 did quite well in 2010 for a Japanese only release, though to be fair their hardcore fans have gone out of their way to translate and distribute copies of the game. While it wasn’t the weakest game in the bracket the game still doesn’t have much strength. Metal Gear Solid 3 is much stronger than Devil May Cry 3 and while some people are down on the series I feel that is a bit unwarranted. MGS2 did as expected against Resident Evil and while MGS had a bad start it too got to what was needed to be respectable. There is some discussion that MGS3 is the strongest game of the series, I think it will be close, but the game will have three rounds to prove itself before its showdown against Metal Gear Solid. charmander6000’s Bracket: Metal Gear Solid 3 > Mother 3 charmander6000’s Prediction: Metal Gear Solid 3 wins, 74.67% - 25.33% Match LXII: (6) BioShock vs. (11) Silent Hill 2 Previous Performance BioShock – 2010 68.91% against Star Wars: Battlefront II 43.73% against Kingdom Hearts II Silent Hill 2 – 2010 36.43% against Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Analysis While I feel BioShock should still win I feel it could be on a path to having an underperformance. The game looked pretty good in 2010, but the series hasn’t been able to establish itself on GameFAQs since then. BioShock Infinite did okay earlier this round, but we don’t know the strength of Fallout: New Vegas Silent Hill has done well to get its characters and games into the contest, especially after we expanded to 128, but it has never shown to be more than fodder. Even if BioShock is weaker now it would have to be quite the drop to lose since the game was stronger than Vice City back in 2010. Match LXIII: (7) Starcraft vs. (10) Destiny Previous Performance Starcraft – 2009 27.89% against Final Fantasy VIII, Soul Calibur, Xenogears 16.63% against LoZ: Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy IX Destiny – N/A N/A Analysis While most people here have Starcraft there is some fear that Destiny could have strength. While the game was a flop relative to expectations it does have quite the community now, especially after the release of the expansion pack. However, it is a new game on a site that doesn’t take too kindly to new games. After its crazy antics in 2004 the Starcraft horribly flopped in 2009 and with Final Fantasy VIII performing poorly earlier this round questions have arisen on its strength. Starcraft II’s third part has been recently released so it might help the game. Honestly I still equate Starcraft to around Diablo II’s strength and if it holds true then it shouldn’t have any problem winning here. While Destiny is a type of game for rally potential I just don’t see it happening. While there is a chance much more often than not fanbases are not able to rally the troops to push a game to win on another website. charmander6000’s Bracket: Starcraft > Destiny charmander6000’s Prediction: Starcraft wins, 62.57% - 37.43% Match LXIV: (2) Mass Effect 2 vs. (15) Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward Previous Performance Mass Effect 2 – N/A N/A Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward – N/A N/A Analysis Along with Skyrim there are high expectations that Mass Effect 2 will have strength. I don’t see Skyrim as a world beater after round 1, but that was my expectation from the start. There’s some mild hype about Mass Effect 2 defeating Metal Gear Solid 3 and while I don’t see it, it does have a couple of rounds to look impressive. Virtue’s Last Reward has been in conversation of being the weakest entrant of the bracket. After the performance by 999 I am incline to agree. Someone here made the rally topic for Draven on the LoL Subreddit. It was fairly neutral for a rally topic and was gaining upvotes so it looked like it would become the main rally topic. Due to their subreddit rules, they delete duplicate rally topics. At the same time, users in this topic were discussion ways to sabotage the rally. One of the proposed ideas was to delete the rally topic when it started to gain steam. Smurf (I think it was him? People called him Smurf at least) claimed that he was the person who made the current rally topic and would delete it. A LoL mod saw the post and decided to step in. They deleted the current rally thread and replaced it with a more typical rally post and sticked it. They then came in to tell us we brought this on ourselves. The problem was, Smurf lied. He never made the topic and thus could never do what he said he would do. I don't Smurf planned that result since there was no way he could predict the mod would act like that. However, the end result was he tricked the mod into taking actions to completely bury Snake.
