ROUND 1 – DAY 14 – BOTTOM OF DIVISION 7 Match LIII: (3) The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt vs. (14) The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth Previous Performance The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – N/A N/A The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth – N/A N/A Analysis We have a 2015 game going up against a 2014 game. The Witcher 3 should have no issue winning this match. The Binding of Isaac is a very niche series while The Witcher 3 has just placed its series on the map with its successful release. On a normal site I would expect The Witcher 3 to have some strength, but this is GameFAQs which seems to have forgotten that games are still being released. I feel the game got lucky with such an easy first round opponent, but its true colours will be shown next round. charmander6000’s Bracket: The Witcher 3 > The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth charmander6000’s Prediction: The Witcher 3 wins, 64.47% - 35.53% Match LIV: (6) Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty vs. (11) Resident Evil Previous Performance Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty – 2010 69.68% against Banjo-Tooie 49.96% against Shadow of the Colossus Resident Evil – 2009 20.60% against Super Mario 64, Castlevania: SotN, Kirby Super Star Analysis Resident Evil actually didn’t look too bad in 2009; putting up okay numbers on Super Mario 64 and narrowly losing to Castlevania: SotN isn’t that bad. However, I see this match being one of those cases where it’s possible for Resident Evil to look good, but I have a hard time seeing it winning. Metal Gear Solid 2’s numbers are a bit weird due to Shadow of the Colossus, but the game does have some strength. The game got above 37% on Final Fantasy X in 2009. Metal Gear Solid 4 and V’s performance earlier this round may be a cause of concern, but MGS4 had reason to underperform while MGSV is a 2015 game. Match LV: (7) Fallout: New Vegas vs. (10) BioShock Infinite Previous Performance Fallout: New Vegas – N/A N/A BioShock Infinite – N/A N/A Analysis I don’t expect much out of these two games, but someone has to win. New Vegas was considered a bit of a letdown after the release of Fallout 3, especially with its buggy problems. After those were fixed the game was fine, but I feel a lot of those Fallout 3 fans just avoided the game all together. BioShock Infinite was a pretty good game and while the first game did quite well against Kingdom Hearts II (43.73%) I don’t feel that the game has that kind of strength. BioShock is one of those series that could have dropped off the face of the Earth on GameFAQs. Big Daddy went from a character with some strength to losing to Lloyd while Booker was soundly beaten by Gilgamesh in the last character battle. I wouldn’t be surprised if that drop extended to its games. charmander6000’s Bracket: Fallout: New Vegas > BioShock Infinite charmander6000’s Prediction: Fallout: New Vegas wins, 56.37% - 43.63% Match LVI: (2) Resident Evil 4 vs. (15) Paper Mario Previous Performance Resident Evil 4 – 2010 82.15% against Jet Grind Radio 65.69% against Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 70.72% against Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 55.46% against Portal 43.19% against Final Fantasy X Paper Mario – 2010 72.14% against Katamari Damacy 59.15% against World of Warcraft 42.51% against Metal Gear Solid 3 Analysis It is quite a shame that Paper Mario was given such an impossible to defeat opponent. With better bracket placement the game could have upset a few 2 seeds. Resident Evil 4 was given a gift in its bracket placement where it could potentially reach the semi-finals though games like Super Mario RPG and more notably Metal Gear Solid are the likely candidates at stopping it from reaching that far. Paper Mario’s performance against Metal Gear Solid 3 will be something to look at. is the only remotely debatable match I think we could have tonight,
though I think RE4's presence is going to put that out of reach for RE

I
really think The Witcher 3 is going to go significantly higher tonight
than some think. The Binding of Isaac is likely one of the bottom-five
games in the bracket in terms of contest strength, and it very well

Could
be that the theory has no merit, but I figure the average voter will be
more comfortable voting for MGS2 & RE4 than RE & RE4. We should
eventually get a feel for whether it's anything more than dumb

Games
from the same series having matches on the same day shouldn't really
matter unless there's a rally. Like if RE vs MGS2 is close, RE fans
being rallied can lead to RE4 overperforming on Paper Mario. It won't
change the winner but it is something to think about for Oracle

You
know, I wonder if Resident Evil would perform better with a pic of the
Gamecube version rather than the original PSX game. The Gamecube version
is universally viewed as the vastly superior version to the point where
it's almost viewed as a totally different game. --- Yay - Raytan is the guru champion of awesomeness. |
It wouldn't surprise me if GTA is like Halo and they both can't really be blown out but they also can't destroy opponents. I wouldn't be surprised if they are at a similar percentage to Oblivion on SMRPG. |

and Halo can definitely be blown out! Halo 3 already has been, and
you'll see Halo get blown out next round, for sure. RE4 65/35'd Vice

Yeah
but GTA3 put up 43 on Half Life 2 and Vice City pretty much was 60-40
on FF8 and put 46 on Melee back in the day. Even Vercetti put up numbers
which surprised me early on in his contest career (At the time he was
considered a big deal but now is pretty impressive). For Halo I was actually thinking of older contest Halo. The series has lost its stigma over the years, but although Master Chief could never destroy (or beat) weak opponents he could hold his own against elite competition. |
RE4
got like 69% on Vice City, in fact! Yeah, it's true, it wouldn't be a
big surprise to see the GTA games on Oblivion's level, though then
again, it kinda would because Oblivion was stronger than any GTA game
way back when. Oblivion could have weakened, though, as some have
suspected. Wait just a second.... RE4 fell short of 66%?! I wish I knew that before I predicted GTA:VC/FFVIII between 65 and 66% in the Oracle Challenge! Now FF8 doesn't look quite that bad now.... Dang, I really shouldn't rely on my memory anymore. What's stronger, RE1 or RE2? The second one is considered the better game, but RE1 had a popular remake and has the advantage of being the original.... all I know is that RE looked really bad in the original games contest, though. --- "Ah, a party! Ah,
I knew there was SOMETHING that indicated RE had decent strength.... I
completely overlooked and forgotten about that 4-way match. Mario 64
only got like 69% on it there. Still doesn't look quite good enough for
RE to pull off the upset, but I guess it's not impossible. And I have no idea whether Bioshock has a chance at the upset tomorrow.... how are New Vegas and Infinite viewed compared to Fallout 3 and the original Bioshock? --- "Ah, a party!
