I wonder how it would be doing if Konami had let Kojima finish the game like he wanted to

Man, what the hell is this garbage? First Mario Maker, now MGSV? What is with this site ignoring the 2 best games of the 2010s so far but supporting SJW weeaboo hot garbage like Underfail and Xenocrap?

MGSV was a good game, but a mediocre MGS game. My friend who is a mega diehard MGS fan and consumes all things MGS, literally sold his disc before he finished it because he was so sick of the filler missions and the lack of things that helped him relate to characters (like interesting codec calls about random s*** that gave you insights on your support team's characters). He didn't even get to Act 2 which fed you repeat missions on harder modes which is complete ass, and I would imagine many old school fans were pretty pissed off about that. I would guess most GameFAQs users are the types who want a solid and well paced story that isn't completely unfinished like MGSV is. Most of our userbase likes RPGs with good stories and that's why they played MGS too. The V ending was also kinda controversial with some folks. I'm actually surprised MGSV didn't face the same backlash that ME3 did.

After seeing this performance? It's going to be weaker here than MGS4 and 2. Bank on it.

The only criticism I can leverage against MGSV is that it was very clear the game was rushed to complete, and lots of story content was cut, but with all of the content that was in the game (significant amount) and the overall amazing gameplay, it's definitely one of the few games in the current console generation that is worth playing.

Like I said, it's a good game, but a mediocre MGS game. If it didn't have MGS slapped on the box and I just picked it up to try it out I'd say yeah it's alright but kinda boring after the 20th mission rescuing some random dude. It'd be the kinda game I'd pick up and play once in a while like GTA.

Most of the MGS series is more special than GTA for reasons that have nothing to do with core stealth gameplay. I think that's why it is beloved on this site.

I think GameFAQS aging and thus being able to use computers/laptops at work/college more easily during the day than they would have in high school probably has more to do with it.

That charm is all there, it's just part of the gameplay.

The amount of odd, bizarre things you can experiment with is absolutely insane. You can literally avoid detection by hiding in a stall and playing a tape of a guy having diarrhea. You can win sniper battles by having ammo dropped on your opponents head. The cardboard box can deteriorate and eventually be destroyed in the rain. Firing a crafted water gun at sleeping soldiers has them freak out and wake up thinking they pissed themselves.

There is nobody that could have created this game except for Kojima, lacking in ridicukous story or not.

Only the first 2 options in both polls, plus the mobile phone option are actually worth looking at here. "Desktop computer" does best during the usual working hours, as I'd probably expect workplaces to have desktops over a laptop. "Laptop computer" actually performs fairly bad during the BSV/DSV. "Mobile phone" does best during the BSV and worst during the ASV/SNV.

Okay guys, currently there are 28 matches where the older game won as opposed to only 12 where the older game lost. The ratio will be 30:14 after today.

List of games that beat an older game (going by US release date anyway):

Final Fantasy X
The Last of Us
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow
Undertale
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Metroid Prime
Final Fantasy Tactics
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Okami
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Dark Souls

Also Japanese games are currently 13-5 against Western games, but that's going up to 16-5 after today! KOTOR, Mass Effect, Skyrim, Half-Life 2, and Donkey Kong Country 2 are the only Western games to defeat Japanese games.

To ask another question, what games that made it to R2 do you guys think are fodder and what games that lost in R1 could actually be quite strong? My answers for the former off the top of my head are Dragon Quest VIII and Suikoden II, for the latter Kingdom Hearts and Diablo II (which did get to R3 in the previous games contest!).

I just checked the results. This is what I have to say:
1st match=LTTP is dominating! I thought it wouldn't finish above 85% but it may even break 90% Man!
2nd match=FF 4 this much? Deus EX must be weak because of all FF games that entered the contest, FF 4 is the weakest for sure.
3rd match=MGS 5 barely beating Perfect Dark... I imagine in a year the results will be the opposite. New games suck!
4th match=Civilzation 5 is losing by a lot...And it is the only PC series I like!

GFaqs completely ignoring critical opinion, with ALTTP > Cave Story being the only opinion critics follow as well. 91.03 % Deus Ex should be beating 90 % rated FFIV, 95 rated MGSV shouldn't be beating 97 rated Perfect Dark and 89 rated Dark Souls shouldn't be beating 90 rated Civ V either!
I've always found it interesting that Perfect Dark was so acclaimed and yet practically got forgotten. TV Tropes blames it on Halo coming out the year after.

So I guess it's Goldeneye with the outdated gameplay and a lot less nostalgia.

What a terrible match pic for MGS5- the 'Metal Gear Solid' part is barely legible. Surely Perfect Dark would be below 40 if not for the match pic?
I have never played MGS5, and only briefly played Perfect Dark, but would probably have voted for MGS5 off the back of liking some of the earlier games in the series had I been able to read it
Perfect Dark > Goldeneye though
Nothing to do with the match pic, MGSV is underpeforming cause no ones care about the new releases anymore. You should have seen it coming when Super Mario Maker got nearly doubled by a fodderific FE game.

Man is not the creature of circumstances. Circumstances are the creatures of man.
I wrote about this in my crew writeup -- gamefaqs doesn't care about great gameplay. it'll always be secondary to the story, characters and setting. mgsv sucks at that and so it's weak. this isn't a new/old thing so much as mgs moving in a direction that we don't care for. we'll see the same thing in a few days when Destiny bombs too.

I care about great gameplay, and MGS5 doesn't have it. It's a disappointing game in almost every way, and it will rightfully be beaten by Dark Souls in round two.
And yet Zelda and Mario are strong.

Nothing to do with the match pic, MGSV is underpeforming cause no ones care about the new releases anymore. You should have seen it coming when Super Mario Maker got nearly doubled by a fodderific FE game.

The FE game is new too. But I guess when it comes to popularity, 3DS > WiiU.

Aside from Hylian Warriors and Splatoon, I feel no reason to buy a WiiU at all. No, I'm not interested in playing yet another Mario Kart and Smash games.

While the 3DS may not have the biggest library, but it has enough to entertain me for years to come.

Rank these games in order of strength:

Metal Gear Solid 4
Vice City
Resident Evil 2
Demon's Souls
Morrowind

BTW guys Metroid Prime has an easy path to Round 3, since it already beat a game that ranked higher than Half-Life 2 on...you know.

Metroid Prime/Half-Life 2 is still expected to be close. A constant Demon's Souls gives Metroid Prime 52.40% which is only a small increase to what it got in 2010.

That was a joke.

Also apparently I'm on the leaderboard. This probably stays until some dumb pick of mine in Round 2...I have Portal 2 in Round 3, that will hurt.

So right now Fallout 3 is expected to get 58.08% on Final Fantasy IV, which means Super Mario World is expected to get between 53.55% (with SMB3 in the poll) and 63.47% (with Final Fantasy in the poll)

If there was a significant Fallout 4 boost we could have an interesting match.
