Well, Galaxy is way more popular in general than it is on GameFAQs. I think people have the wrong idea if they think people don't actively like the Galaxy games. Galaxy vs. ME2 would be interesting elsewhere, but not Galaxy vs. ME1.

I find that really debatable. Impossible to prove though.

Anyway, if this match follows trends, SMG has to stop the bleeding now, build a solid hour of transitioning back to a positive trend, and then sustain 52% of the vote the rest of the way to have enough cuts to win. If ME keeps gaining or even stalling for the next hour or two then it is effectively over.

They are popular to a level. That level isn't very high. Mainly because of the history of Mario games and the standard they are compared to.
Nah, Galaxy is absolutely up to the Mario standard. It's why it's more popular, even if people who have played both generally prefer Galaxy 2. Galaxy 1 is a tour de force of game design.

Well, it's not so much that as much as ME1 is pulling away without Galaxy 2 putting up much of a fight. The match isn't really trending toward a comeback.

Again, it depends on the game it's facing. Lets actually give ME some credit here. It's not some fodder game. You have to look at how last generation evolved on Gamefaqs. There was a big split when the wii came out. 360 and Ps3 combined were far more popular over time on this site than the wii. What were the more popular games on this site that gen? ME is up there based on ME2 winning GOTY and the games being hyped. You can add Bethesda games on there too.

Even if this is Nintendofaqs, it's Oldnintendofanfaqs. Most of those fans that Love OoT, SMb3 or Mario 64 have moved onto other consoles and games. They aren't blind to Nintendo games anymore. Even if they enjoyed Galaxy they might have played ME and enjoyed that more.
Damn, wasn't expecting ME to build up its lead even further during the day :(

I know ME is nothing to mess with; I made the point earlier in the thread that ME2 is probably the strongest Western game in the contest. I guess this was one of the matches where I voted for the one I liked better. So sad :(

I'm talking nostalgic wise. Galaxy is a top quality platformer in its own right but so are the other mario games. It just comes down to which games you would go out and vote for because they mean something to you. I don't consider MArio galaxy better for it's time than SMB3 SMW or SM64. Those games were revolutionary. Galaxy and Galaxy 2 were just a perfect refinement of the genre. It's a shame Nintendo couldn't do the same with Zelda because they make damn good Mario games still.

And I don't consider them different games. Galaxy 2 is basically Galaxy 1.5. IT's just more of the same brillaint stuff. Galaxy 2 was better for me based on the last boss which was a lot better and Yoshi. Galaxy 1 had better OST though but they are almost identical.

Galaxy 2 making a bad first impression just like its predecessor did eh? Some things never change.

We never saw a shred of evidence suggesting either Galaxy is anything better than a solid midcarder.

Galaxy 2 was initially meant as an expansion but turned into a full game because there were so many unused levels from the original.

I wouldn't say strongest. I mean it depends on how much it's come along but Skyrim and Fallout 3 would be up there and so would Metroid Prime. I wouldn't even rule Goldeneye out either.

But these games have strong fanbases. They can't be bullied by any decent Nintendo games. For example its going to take a juggernaut in Mario 64 to take down a Skyrim or a SMW to take down a fallout 3. in 5 years these games will be stronger too.
Well SMG behind TP still finished higher than Mass Effect (expected to get 50.30%)

I'm curious if anyone has an explanation for this. Is that sudden drop at 16:00 just an outlier or is there actually something going on there?

This was my signature, but Raytan, 2013 Guru champion, took it away.
By the by, I think Mario Galaxy is getting an easy ride on Board 8 and this topic. Starting from the Call of Duty 4 embarrassment in 2009, SMG and SMG2 have failed to meet expectations in almost every match they've appeared in. The series is a perennial flop.

It's interesting to remember that SMG > Brawl in 2009 was a fairly popular pick...

It's probably just random variation, which should be larger with these low votals. I was actually quite surprised how steady the trends were this morning- its surprising that the hours all kept falling pretty much right on the trendline without much variance!

It's pretty funny that Board 8 still thinks Nintendo stuff is likely to have a strong day vote because that's when kids are voting.

Kids don't vote for Nintendo on GameFAQs in 2015, guys. Kids don't even know GameFAQs exists, and those that do are far more likely to be playing the realistic "hardcore" games that are mainstream these days. It's the night vote you should be watching out for, when the mid twenties nostalgia nerds that make up most of this site's regular userbase are active.
Didn't Paper Mario 2 have a strong SNV the other day?
also dammit I should have gone with my instincts on Super Metroid > Galaxy 1
this doesn't really say anything about Galaxy/Super Metroid
---

this isn't a crazy upset or anything. a bunch of people picked it and the rest recognized it wasn't a lock.

by my math, Galaxy needs 56% of the vote to tie the match. good luck with that.
