Yes I wondered about LoL specific criteria too. Keeping one of the most played games out because of no Metacritic reviews seems so wrong. He could have the bracket with the actual top 128 strongest games but that would mean 15 zeldas, 12 final fantasies, 10 marios, all 4 smashes, 5 tales games, 6 pokemon games, etc He's going for the option where we see more series being represented, and only the strongest games of each series. think your general point about FF/Zelda/Mario overrepresentation is
correct. I'm just a bit annoyed because in the last full games contest,
Allen insisted on segregating the games by era, and his stated
rationale was that he thought modern games would wreck old games. He
gave SMB1/Halo as his example! I mean, that match would be a

limiting the FF/Zelda/Mario exposure. we'll be happy with it when we
have a diverse group in the top 8-16 too. woulda been nice to have them
and feed them to a major game or something, but not a huge loss. we have

Yeah Allen for some reason thinks new games are so much stronger here and it's just wrong. Anyway, people pulling the "we don't need more Mario" argument against SMB1 are just missing the point entirely. I'd happily replace Mario Kart 8 or something like that with it. Allen went on a lot about how these are 128 excellent games, the best 128 and SMB1 is just too iconic and well-selling to be excluded in a contest called Best Game Ever especially when it ahd the nominations. guess I didn't pay close enough attention during the bracketmaking
period, but I'm also surprised to learn that Brawl didn't make the
bracket. I am sort of pleased about that, and also thinking that I made
the right decision to nominate Chrono Trigger. If Brawl can miss the
contest, strength isn't a guarantee of entry. It's good practice to
nominate CT/Crono every contest, and maybe FFVII too (it only got a 2

Mario 1 is sort of overrated imo. I've been playing it the last few days and it's pretty fun, and also I respect it for how it defined the industry, but it's made completely obsolete by SMB3. |

So I looked on Metacritic, and SMB3 didn't have any reviews either. Guess only games below a certain nomination rank needed critic reviews? Am I the only one here who has never beaten the original SMB? I got to world 8 when I was a kid and ragequit. Now I got to it again and I'm having my ass handed out to me. It might be even harder than Zelda 1, I think. |

I beat SMB1 when I was 3 or someting. 2D platforming was what I started with. --- My old signature was really outdated. I haven't thought of a proper new one yet. |
