Brawl suffered from Sequel migration. As in SmashU just about made Brawl Obsolete hence why nominations for brawl were so bad. Smash NX will make Smash U Obsolete and so on. Melee is the only game that will have a longevity of core fans.

Yeah, and that has nothing to do with people's general liking of the Wii as I said. Also, it depends on how the next Smash game is. Smash 4 made Brawl obsolete because gameplay is an upgrade and not a change. If they change things again, Smash U is sure to keep a fanbase.

Well i still think people don't like the wii hence there maybe some element of anti voting.

We saw how brawl got antivoted in 2010.

If we had a best system ever where would you put the wii? I'd say on the same tier as master system and Xbox original.

l. I think this match would be competitive on most neutral gaming websites.

HM, do you have sales data for these games? And maybe SMG and the other ME games for that matter.

I would agree, but I think both Galaxy and ME would be much more popular on other sites than they are here, too.

Super Mario Galaxy: 12.59 million
Super Mario Galaxy 2: 7.5 million

Not totally sure about ME, but I think the series total sold about 14 million. Maybe someone else has a breakdown, but ME2 was undoubtedly the breakout game. It went multiplatform, it got huge reception, so I'd guess it and ME3 make up a big chunk of that.

Eh, above the original xbox at least. But systems matter as much here as you're impliying. Brawl got anti-voted in 2010, because it had a real shot at the title and people had something that game in particular, not because of it being on the wii.

My old signature was really outdated. I haven't thought of a proper new one yet.
I like both SMG2 and ME. Both have flaws (though I think the motion controls are pretty minor compared to the dull-as-f*** tank sections, god damn do those drag ME down and I'm glad the sequels nixed that s***) but both are also a blast to play, so I'm happy with either one of these games winning.

Definitely a match that's worthy of being so damn close.

e: Also for some reason I have 6 over 7 in my bracket and I'm definitely wary about that now since despite 6 looking damn good it's likely going to be another Mario/Samus situation. Guess I'll pray that Wind Waker beasts over both because people are sick of Final Fantasy always winning over Zelda games.

Wind waker isn't doing anything unfortunately. If MM was up against FFVI there maybe some legit shot at it winning but even then it's a longshot. I think LttP beats FFVI though comfortably.

We actually have a page on the Board 8 wiki that tracks the all-time highest playrate for numerous games:

http://board8.wikia.com/wiki/Have_You_Played

It is often difficult to get a read on a game's playrate, as most playrate polls are generally reserved for the only the most popular games. In most cases, Allen will only run a playrate poll on an notable anniversary date for a game, such as SMB turning 30 years old.

I am surprised to see Sonic 1 ranking so high, and to a lesser extent Duck Hunt. In the past 10 years those have likely dropped a good bit though.

I also thought more games had 80+% playrates. Even Ocarina was only at 80% in 2009, and it's more likely to have gone down then up. I'm gonna have to revise my "universal" playrate definition way down to like 75%.

I wish Allen would do the four polls a day for playrate polls, I hunger for more data!!

Thanks! I had no idea SMG sold that many, damn. No wonder people expected so much more its first contest.

And yeah both games would be much stronger on most sites. It still probably goes back to the site aging/no fresh users thing.

Be funny if the site crashed in the last five minutes of the poll due to refresh spamming and he couldn't get his vote in on time.

Edit: Feeling pretty good about SMG2 as I head out for work. Survived the night vote well and should have better hours from here on.

SMG2 is increasing its lead. I predicted it to win but it would be interesting to see a Mario game losing in the first round especially since it's considered to be one of the best.

So what do people prefer so far, multiple matches a day or 12-hour matches?

Multiple matches means there's usually something interesting going on, but it also means things have pretty much died down by mid-day unless you have a close match going on, so I'm pretty split. Maybe two 12-hour polls would be neat.
