This may be TOTALLY misguided, but I just don't see Mario choking a close match away. Don't think SMG2 is losing here, though it will definitely by skinny jeans tight.

SMG2 dying here... hmm, if ME2 has say another 3 hours at this rate and day vote trends are muted, it could well pull it off. I would still put SMG2 as the favourite though.
I mostly lurked here for the past few years, haven't been on board 8 since the last contest. Also I'm #1 in the Oracle rn but that can change if ME doesn't win here.

Little stall for SMG2.

Halo is really cruising now too. 1000 vote barrier reached. Considering a rally will not happen during the night it could be up 2000 by daytime and Minecraft lovers would probably be less motivated.

I think I'd still rather have SMG in my bracket and Oracle, but I am concerned.

I think the day vote (due to the US) should save SMG, but ME should have a decent day vote itself, and trends are so little now.

At any rate it is good to have a close match. And once again I'm very grateful for four polls a day. 24 hours of FF7 and Smash destroying would suck.

GameFAQs sometimes shows vote results outside of the typical 5 minute update cycle. If the automatic update collector hits one of these, it will still record it.

The poll results pages are a little glitchy sometimes and has been acting this way for about 2 years. I first noticed this wonky behavior on a poll that I tracked on 10/31/2013. The large majority (95% or more) of the time you visit the results page in between the regular 5 minute update cycle, you will see the correct vote totals. But in some rare cases, you will see vote totals that are slightly different from what would normally be shown on the large majority of the time you visit the results page.

As a way to test this out, I ran a script in between the 3:45 AM and 3:50 AM update for the Smash 4 match. I had a script rapidly fetch the vote totals on that match a total of 200 times. The Smash 4 match normally has 8826 votes as of the 3:45 AM update. Out of the 200 times I fetched the vote totals on that match, there were only 7 instances where I fetched an overall vote total other than 8826 votes.

Just to ask, during the bracketmaking phase it seemed like Halo was a pretty decisive favorite over Minecraft on this board. Was it because of Halo at least being a proven midcarder? The Minecraft characters' bad performances in the character battle? B8 being snakebitten by betting against Halo in GOTD?

Question: Minecraft vs. Sonic Adventure 2 or Super Mario Sunshine who wins? I'd probably go Sunshine > Minecraft > Sonic by now, though I will admit that picking Sunshine to win that match would be a fanboy pick. And maybe not the best idea given how well it did in GOTD lol.

Also C/D: Mass Effect will never take the lead.

I picked, at least, picked Halo mostly due to thinking that Minecraft would be really weak and less that Halo would be strong, but I did assume that Halo would be around a weak mid-cardder, due to likely being the strongest in the series.

I also agree w/ Sunshine > Minecraft > SA2. I am sort of predicting that GameCube stuff (esp. Sunshine and WW) will be a bit stronger than in the past.

Well Sunshine and WW get lots more good word of mouth now than they used to, though it probably helps that I replayed both last year and had lots of fun (but after those two + Metroid Prime, well, I'm all GameCube'd out).

Minecraft would probably beat SA2 because lol 3D Sonic. Anyway the Minecraft characters probably did poorly in the contest because Minecraft is not a character-oriented game, however Master Chief has also shown to be weaker than his games in a contest setting so forget it.

Hmm, interesting.

It's still possible for the day vote to exist in some capacity. In the past, the day vote results from the younger voters getting home from school in the US/Canada and showing their presence in a match. With the younger voters almost non-existent these days, it's more difficult to get an actual day vote in a match. It is the younger voters that generally have different taste in video games compared to older voters, which results in the ASV.

The day vote can still exist when a game performs very well in the US and there is very little disparity in the game's popularity among different age groups. The day vote for Kingdom Hearts II was nowhere to be found in its match against MGS4, which suggests it's fairly popular among the younger voters and has very little popularity with the older voters. Wind Waker on the other hand showed a better day vote and it even managed to gain a total of 0.74% after reaching its low point of 72.04% against Pokemon X/Y. I see Zelda as a series with less disparity in the game's popularity among different age groups, so it can actually show an actual day vote from the US voting in larger numbers to counter the European/Asian voters that result in Zelda's weak night vote.

Yeah, if a game is more popular in some continents than others trends are going to continue to exist to some extent.

I wouldn't rate Chrono Trigger as having the best night vote out there. It's true that Chrono Trigger has a good night vote, but that's only true up until we reach the dead zone (4:00 AM to 6:00 AM EST) where the UK voters really start making their presence visible. Chrono Trigger is very weak in the UK.
