Melee is almost 15 years old and people still play it competitively. I'd
guess that the collapse of votals and continuing aging of the site has
something to do with CT's resurgence. The "modern" generation of games
from a few years ago, when these contests were last held, is no longer
modern, and the current modern generation has little presence on
Gamefaqs. Since it's been so long since the last contest and even longer since a contest with relevant stats, stats should be less important than usual this contest so I will engage in more wild theorizing. Thus...... I'd guess Magus and Sephiroth have the same problem. They were really cool characters back in the 90s, but their appeal wore off the most as time passed, and people realized their character development was not really that great. Crono and Cloud are the best characters in their respective games, but initially Magus and Sephiroth kept up better with style disguised as character development. As time passed, people realized they aren't really as great characters as they'd thought, and the gap from them to Crono/Cloud grew. Crono and Chrono Trigger have maintained respectable performances throughout the years. CT lost 51/49 to Mario 64, which was embarassing at the time, until Mario 64 ended up going 50/50 with A Link to the Past. Crono lost to Missingno, which was embarassing at the time, but then we watched multiple Pokemon wreck everything in their path, up to and including Squirtle beating Cloud. The only truly awful performances we've seen from CT have been from Magus. --- September 1, 2003; November 4, 2007; September 2, 2013 NEVER FORGET. |
I've
pointed out that Chrono Trigger's play rate on this site is actually
better than it was in 2005 a few times. I doubt that was the case during

It's not that CT is so popular, it's just that sticking it up against a random Ratchet and Clank game is like putting a heavy weight champion of fighting against a scrawny 8 year old. It's not that CT is way more popular than normal this year, it's just that very few people are going to pick a Ratchet and Clank game over it. I picked CT in my bracket because I knew it would easily decimate R&C, and that was because I knew that R&C had very weak standing against it... Not because I think CT will actually get that far in this contest. It's because CT is up against such an easy game to top that it's winning by so much, not because it's having an unprecedented surge of popularity for some random reason. edit: My personal bracket shows that I think CT will go on to beat DQviii, but will be stopped dead in its tracks when it hits Final Fantasy X. --- They shot a diamond made of iron at a car moving at 400 walls per hour-One of the dumbest sentences ever. Even though our vote totals have declined because a large majority of new visitors bypass the homepage from Google and never see the polls, this also affects our age demographics too. The same people visiting GameFAQs for the first time from Google and bypass the homepage would almost certainly include a lot of younger people not being represented in the age polls. As a result, the more recent age polls do not accurately show the age demographics of the average site visitor and the younger age demographics are very under-represented. The age polls are only accurate at showing the age demographics of the people who still vote in the polls on a regular basis. Votals go up, his strength goes down. Votals go down, his strength goes up. I'd put actual money down on this bet. If CT goes up against a FF, it will lose. CT is one of my favorite RPGs ever and I don't even like FF much, but I know how strong and rabid the FF fanbase is when it comes to voting for FF games whenever a poll comes up. FF doing extremely well is just a rule when it comes to these kinds of polls, and thinking otherwise will screw your bracket up badly. eh? At this point it's like a mob tying up Cloud and ransacking the
ruins of his manor searching for the gold that Link already took years
ago, and hysterically kicking Cloud when they can't find the gold.
While Link sits outside in a carriage made of diamond sipping expensive
wine. Oh yeah, and the mob has done this same exact thing every year.

Nobody, just someone who has been here since 2005 and has been taking part in just about every poll this site has done in that time (meaning I got a good idea of how polls usually go on this site). I also researched past polls and Best Game Ever contests and used that research when I made my bracket, meaning I did more than just guess. I got a good ear to the ground here, I want to win more than most on this site. I'm dirt poor and even buying a Wii U is difficult for me right now, so I am in this to win no matter what. To that end, I put a fair amount of work and effort into how I set my bracket up. The rules didn't say you'd be disqualified for using past polls and contests to plan your bracket out, so I made full use of this site's archives. Still, I'm not perfect. I've already messed up, I really thought a Batman Arkham game would beat a Megaman game... seriously, Chrono Trigger has never lost to a Final Fantasy game other
than VII, and no Chrono Trigger character has ever lost to a Final
Fantasy character except from VII. If you look at the finals, no FF
character or game other than from VII has ever seriously challenged for
the title. That doesn't mean CT will beat X necessarily, but there's no

address something from last page, I'm honestly convinced that the
original idea that Chrono Trigger was declining was I'll conceived. It

Some games are definitely a bit of a coin flip, some games I truly did just have to go off of intuition and gut feeling. CT versus FFX was one of them. apparently over the past week the combination of me switching a few
picks and the board consensus switching on a few close matches has

Arkham
Asylum did pretty well in GotD, and if you have both games at around
the same strength then Mega Man X would be about as strong as Fallout 3,
which doesn't make sense to me. So i think the Arkham games have gotten

That was mostly in jest. I don't necessarily believe Batman > Portal 2. I'd feel confident in saying MMX > Sonic 2. 2009 seemed to back that up since they both faced FFVI and LA.
