I
will admit that some of my picks are based on what I'd expect without
knowing the trends of the past few contests, not expecting them to
continue on. Of course I could be wrong. The specific ones are Chrono Trigger escaping its division, RBY losing to Mario 3, and Wind Waker failing to upset FFVI. Based on contest trends I probably wouldn't make all those picks. Although even as far as contest/site trends are concerned the Chrono Trigger and FFVI picks are sound - FFVI stuff has just generally done really well from 2010 on, while I just don't want to pick Melee to win a division again and get burned. Even Ulti admitted that Melee is probably not as strong as we think it is or want it to be. --- "Nothing I could do!" -Darksydephil |
So
have they said how the matches will be done? Every 6 hours or all 4 at a
time? If its all 4 at one time I'm worried that the matches listed
lower will suffer from bad vote totals since I doubt everyone will vote

We'll see if this change actually has any noticeable impact on getting people to sign-up for an account. Yeah I haven't been around much because of the lack of contests but I was genuinely surprised to see him calling out creativename. Like... what the hell man. Calm down. Nobody says x-stats are the be-all end-all. Some matches are too close to decide but the x-stats can tell you who the favourite is and they are right more often than they are wrong which is better than going by gut feel for every single pick. They are an extremely good guide. This contest will be hard to pick because we don't have values on a lot of games. There could be a lot of busts. color, but we're already seeing a very nice boost in the number of
people signing up for an account to fill out a bracket. I have just
noticed a statistically significant boost in the number of User IDs

And there is always an excuse when you're wrong, whether or not you see it when posting. What if your picks are based on something other than fanboy picks and stats, like gut feelings based on what the consensuses within various gaming communities seem to be? The first site alert to promote the bracket entry phase was put up at 6:25 PM EST last Friday (10/30/2015) and there did not appear to be any noticeable boost in the number of User IDs created per day. From 10/30/2015 to 11/2/2015, we had a regular blue site alert which appears to be far less effective in getting people to sign up for an account to fill out a bracket. But at 2:34 PM EST yesterday, the site alert was changed to a yellow color and the impact was very visible with a sharp increase in the number of User IDs created on 11/3/2015. RDR is horseback GTA, and we all know how much this site loves GTA. It's actually probably got a little bit more respect than that, but SOTC is too proven of a commodity. So I was comparing my bracket to the BOP. I don't disagree on much. I was shocked though at how big a favorite FF7 is over Melee. I think it should be favored and I have it winning, but 26 to 4 (and 4 for FF6)? Seems too high. Large upset potential there IMO. This site loves Melee, and it's likely to get strong rallies. I was also surprised that SM64 is an 18 to 12 favorite over R/B. People who have R/B winning do have it going further, but I would've thought R/B would be a small favorite there. In this case I've outright picked the underdog. I've also picked R/B to beat FF7, though that's essentially even in the BOP at 12 vs 11 (and 9 for SM64). I also have Chrono Cross over WoW. But I think those 3 matches are the only ones where I picked the underdog. |

Currently
working on getting some stuff set up so I can be ready to track match
updates during the brief period of time that creativename's updater is
not working. I can fill in for tracking match updates while creativename works on figuring out how to retrieve the vote totals from the results pages, since we're not sure what the results page will look like. at today's poll, the hype for this contest is higher than the previous 2
contests. In the polls for Rivalry Rumble and Character Battle 2013,
21.41% submitted a bracket for Rivalry Rumble while 21.37% submitted a
bracket for Character Battle 2013. Today's poll currently has 30.01% of
the site either entering a bracket or planning to enter a bracket. Haters make noise, post in forums and might change their minds or make
other people notice the contest. Indifferent people just forget contests
