need some help remembering a contest project. I believe GunMage hosted
it. For each four-pack, you had to pick an entrant that you believed
would advance, but the catch was that you could only pick an entrant
once, so you'd have to pick something you were certain would only
advance once. I think perhaps come round 3, you could only pick between
the two matches the division would have left, but I can't remember that,
nor can I remember the name of this. GunMage is not around, but I'd
love to have it back. Anyone have a better memory regarding this than
me? --- My old signature was really outdated. I haven't thought of a proper new one yet. |

Everyone
assumes Portal 2 is going to be weak because it wasn't a cultural

Portal 2 doesn't need to be as strong as Portal to win. The original almost got 45% on Resident Evil 4. Portal does feel like the type of game that could be weaker now, but GlaDOS looked pretty good in the last character battle; likely stronger than Epona/Ike without LFF and defeated sprite Kefka. point is that Portal 2 is awesome and Sonic games have always been
weaker than the character. Isn't Sonic 1 the only game that didn't

To
answer your question MGS4 has competition from 5 games within its
series (plus others). The fact that all five ended on the top half of
seeding is pretty good. MGS4 is also kind of losing steam since it
almost won GotY. I wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to 2 than 1

It's
quite impressive to see Brawl go from a 2 seed to missing the bracket

Feel that MGS is stronger intrinsically too. Based on their performance against Majora Mask/FFX, Pokemon GSC is probably in the same range as MGS3 and RE4, while MGS is clearly a notch above the aforementioned group. --- Man is not the creature of circumstances. Seems odd considering how the characters have been doing. I had no idea Brawl didn't make it. That's wild! So we have SMB and Brawl both missing, and both would be top 20 entrants easily. In fact, where in the Top X would you rank SMB and Brawl? And what are the other really strong games that didn't make it? |

Awakening looked great in 2009 but isn't in the bracket. Sonic 1, Super
Mario Kart, and Mario Kart 64 are all probably pretty good midcarders
and didn't make it. Street Fighter II is notably missing although it did
lose to Sonic 1 twice. Some games that did fairly well in GotD and didn't return: Pokemon DPP Pokemon RSE Grand Theft Auto III Grand Theft Auto IV God of War Resident Evil 5 Golden Sun Batman: Arkham Asylum Several of those have basically been surpassed in popular estimation by later games in their series though, and RE5 and God of War were probably coasting on the recency of RE5 and God of War III to do as well as they did. (They're also big contributors to Metroid Prime's division looking suspiciously overrated in the x-stats). Pokemon RSE failing despite its remake isn't too strange considering XY is only a 13 seed. Golden Sun would have been fun for the lulz but it makes sense that people didn't nominate it. For newcomers, there's no Link Between Worlds (gamefaqs GOTY 2013), no Final Fantasy XIII (it would have bombed though), and no Skyward Sword. --- [NO BARKLEY NO PEACE] |

It's possible in the several years after the 2005 poll for Chrono Trigger's playrate to drop off a bit before going back up again when our vote totals started to decline. Back when there was an ownership poll for Chrono Trigger in 2005, Crono himself was still in fairly good shape in terms of contest strength. In the years between 2005 and 2015, Crono has gotten weaker, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility that he has only recently regained some of the strength that he lost between 2005 and 2010. 2013 is hard to judge Crono by because of the Crono/Magus LFF match that allowed Pikachu to move on instead. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |

good if you think Skyrim will flop. It did well in 2009, but its drop
on the list (especially compared to what it was in 2005) is a bit

There's
a chance GoldenEye will get to the division finals, but I wouldn't say
its likely. There are things pointing towards Skyrim being stronger than
Fallout 3, which should take Skyrim to the division finals. charmander6000 posted... Probably 15-16% or so. Fairly certain it would. I'm
not sure how I feel about this low votals stuff. I personally haven't
voted in the POTD for months, because I don't care. I know plenty of
users just access gamefaqs via their preferred board, hardly anyone
cares about the polls IMO. But contest season is another story,
