Allen's latest topic seems to suggest that every match will be 24 hours, which means we have to reconsider what that previous topic about what we thought was number of matches per day actually means.
---
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CJxwtAuWwAAbmea.jpg
I mean, I suppose it could still mean total number of matches per day, but 4 matches running for 24 hours feels like overkill.

Once all of the details regarding the contest format have been officially revealed (none of these vague topics Allen is posting), I'll submit a feedback ticket to address some concerns regarding the format if there are any.

He seems to have it all planned out, I doubt he will make last minute changes to the format.

I am OK with it being 4 matches if it's 24 hours . Much better than 12 hours matches

I wasn't going to suggest that he changes the format. If we do get more than one match running at the same time, I will put in suggestions on how to make it easier to vote in multiple matches so we don't suffer from reduced vote totals, or even a way to vote in multiple matches at the same time.

Is it just me, or does it seem like there has been increasing backlash to the 12-hour match thing? Most of us used to like it.

I assume it's mostly nostalgia for 24-hour matches.

12 hour matches were more of acceptance due to an increase 128 field. If we could we would have it as 24 hours, but a 2 month first round would pretty much kill any contest.

That and because of our low votes numbers. a 12 hours match would get less than 10k votes, especially night matches.

I wouldn't go that far and assume our night matches will get less than 10000 votes. Actually, a large majority of our non-contest polls have been getting at least 10000 votes by the 12 hour point in the poll and contest matches naturally get more votes than non-contest polls. Today's poll is currently at 9013 votes as of 8:30 AM and will break 10000 votes before 10:00 AM and that's with another 2 hours before reaching the 12 hour point in the poll.

Huh, I must have missed a few Allen topics, as all of this conversation is foreign to me.

I could see running 2 matches simultaneously for 24 hours, but four at one time? Where would that even fit? And the vote totals would still be really low because most people will not vote in 4 polls in one day. They may not even vote in 2!

I can understand if people see 4 matches, with only 1 character that they really like, and vote in that one while ignoring the other 3 matches. But would they have voted in those 3 matches if they were on their own separate days? It sounds like they wouldn't.
---

Some would vote if the match was on a separate day, some wouldn't. I could see this favoring characters with more dedicated fanbases, as there will be fewer indifferent voters supporting the opponent.

I can see some casuals voting in just one match and going on with their business.

Could we see inter-match SFF?

Not that we would know since we don't have much information.

There was one that was "Four Four Two Two One One" (I think) with a message saying that then we'd be done.

Another was "Four to Two, Three to One" (not sure on the order of those) with a message saying neither will do.

...There might have been more, I don't recall.

Hmmm...some sort of double elimination?

Four entrants in a group, then they get mixed up (so still four), then down to two, and so on and so forth.

Not sure that's likely but I got nothing here for the first one. Pretty sure we're getting 1v1 matches with one winner regardless, hence the second one saying neither of the other two formats would do. (not 4 ways with two advancing or three ways with one advancing.) If it's some new thing, it would have said "Two to One" as well.

I saw someone say it was the number of entrants that advance per round, but that would mean we could potentially have 8 game matches in the first round, with 4 advancing.

It'd be unpredictable, for sure, but I dunno about that!

Congrats to 2013 Guru champ raytan!
Yeah, I assumed so far that it was 128 games 1v1 24 hour matches and just kind of threw my hands up on the Four Two Two One One One thing.

Number of matches per day made the most sense to me, but that would still be really weird. I'm not even sure how that would/could work. Well, work well, at least.

So we're getting a 128 entrant contest, starting November 5th, which is not a triple threat nor a quad tear, with 24 hour matches.

The Four Four Two One One One One thing is the only confusing part of this. It suggests seven rounds, which a straight 1v1 contest would be. However, if four first round matches occurred every day, it would only last 16 days. And if the second round also had 4 matches a day, it would only last 8 days. So we'd be down to 32 entrants before the end of the first month. That seems like it would go too quickly to be enjoyable...but would make sense if Allen tries to squeeze the contest between November 5th and Christmas.

This looks like the right theory. Assuming there is still a third place match, this would end the contest on December 22nd, with a Bonus match on Dec. 23rd, and the rest of the traditional Holiday Polls running as normal. Seems a bit cramped, but I can't see any other solution unless Bacon's just going to say **** It and run the contest through the holidays.

So when would nominations have to begin to allow enough time for that and bracket making before Nov. 5th?

It was also believed that the first 3 rounds would be 12-hour matches, but with 2 matches running at the same time for the first 2 rounds. That would lead to 4 matches per day for the first 2 rounds, although a recent topic from Allen has put a little bit of doubt into that theory.

Well noms last for at least 2-3 weeks then almost a week of bracket making than at least 2-3 weeks of predictions before the contest actually starts

So Id say worst case scenario noms start about 2 weeks from now

Hopefully they are up by next week
