You
know, given how well the "Under 9" option has hung on over the years,
I'd say most of those are clearly either troll votes or "DAT TOP

Hmm,
the "Under 9" option has gotten between 0.75% and 0.87% in every age
poll since 2012, so it seems possible that most of them are troll votes. The dramatic loss of ASV power the last several years is connected to the same reasons why our vote totals have also declined. I am willing to bet there are more younger people visiting GameFAQs than today's poll actually suggests. It has been stated in the past that vote totals have declined because of a very large increase in new visitors coming to GameFAQs from a Google search result and bypassing the homepage completely. This group of people contains a lot of younger people that aren't being represented in the recent age polls, so what were left with is an aging group of people that are the primary voters in the daily polls. Yesterday's poll results are very misleading because of what was said above. As a result, the younger age demographics are actually under represented in the polls and thus a loss in ASV power. I
do think the poll should be located on every page of the site (minus
the FAQ pages) to get vote totals up, but Allen doesn't want to do that
because it would take away one of the few reasons to visit the homepage
if you could find the poll on nearly every page of the site. Allen
thinks it also a little spammy to just shove the poll in everyone's
faces by having it located on nearly every page of the site. And that's
on top of what charmander said already, although I'm sure it would be
possible to place the poll below any advertisements that show up in the
column on the far right side of the page. This is definitely the case
with the poll on the main boards page, where they placed it below an

I get the feeling this poll is focusing more on games that would be possible candidates for a full HD remake. The
homepage is still the most visited page on the whole site according to
Allen. People are just not voting. I don't think putting the poll on
every page is a good idea...people will get even more sick/tired of it
and become less likely to vote. Allen has to get a bit more creative and not just spam the poll everywhere. Maybe award some sort of thing for voting...like maybe Karma? or show on user's profiles how many polls they voted in...statistics and numbers usually get people more involved/interested --- ... |

This was Allen's response to my first question: SBAllen posted... People simply aren't interested in voting, and there isn't anything we can do about that particular problem. We added a link to get right to the poll on the mobile home page. Then we put the poll on the boards hub. Then we even put the poll question at the top of the mobile home page. Nothing is really working, but you can't honestly say we haven't tried anything. If you look at today's poll, over 40% of the responders say they are here just to vote in the poll. There's just a select subset of users that care, and there's not much incentive outside of possibly gamifying it that we can do to get that interest built up. Here was another question along with Allen's response: -LusterSoldier- posted... During the last Character Battle, the final 4 matches of the contest (minus the bonus polls) all had a site alert notifying users and visitors to go vote in the current match. We want people to enjoy the contest, but only if they really want to. We aren't going to force it down their throats. In the future, I will make a suggestion to Allen to use the site alert on all of the 24-hour matches during the contest, if the next contest will have a mix of 12-hour and 24-hour matches. it doesn't seem there is much he can do. He said it clearly, people are
not interested in the poll. He won't annoy and possibly lose users by

In
the grand scheme how expensive are contests? Sure we have prizes, but
what about the behind the scenes (lawyer approval, programming,

handling that role right now until they hire a new one, which doesn't

The
contest isn't going to be announced in November. We will probably end
up getting a contest announcement in late August or early September.
Keep in mind that this contest will run for about 65 days (the standard
length for a full contest) and SBAllen won't allow the contest to
overlap with the Christmas break, so that means the first match of the

GOTD was announced on September 1st 2010 and started October 20th 2010. it would be great if the upcoming contest starts in October, but Allen did say the contest will somehow be connected to GameFAQs 20th anniversary in one 'mega' event. That's why I assumed it will be announced during November. But Luster made a valid point in that Allen won't let the contest overlap with the Christmas break. We will see I guess. --- ... |

Being connected to the GameFAQs 20th anniversary for a mega event shouldn't be interpreted as "the contest gets announced in November" or "the first match starts on the 20th anniversary". Rather, what I am expecting is the GameFAQs 20th anniversary will be used as a way to promote the upcoming contest. assuming
the contest is 65 days...it would have to start on September 15 for the
final match to be on November 20. But we don't know the format, 12-hour
matches, extra/bonus matches etc so this is not 100% accurate Contest starting sometime in September does seems like a good guess at the moment. --- ... |

the first match to start in September, the nomination phase would have
to start before the end of this month. Usually there's about 2 weeks

Most
contest announcements tend to be in the afternoon on the west coast and
a games contest doesn't require anything fancy with the nomination form
so SBAllen doesn't need to monitor it to add new entrants. If I
remember correctly contests tend to be announced later into the week
