With yesterday's poll now over with, I have updated the ownership spreadsheet with the new result.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1iMtyUuzmT5ggmYy-xbiGf7fcloXuhkQuu4ZIC2nGI4M/pub

The 3DS ends up with an ownership of 69.21% in yesterday's poll. At this point, we're getting very close to the upper limit of what the 3DS's ownership can achieve on this site. The DS maxed at 72.14% ownership and I don't see the 3DS exceeding that mark at any point in the future. It's still possible the 3DS can break 70% ownership, though.

Vita ends up with an ownership of 35.06% in yesterday's poll, continuing its slow and steady rise in ownership similar to what the PSP did during its life cycle.

PS4 is looking pretty good so far in the early voting, with 40.37% ownership as of the 12:15 AM update. PS4 is likely to finish this poll above 40% ownership since the night vote should be favorable for the PS4.

Ownership updates:

PS4 is now up to 41.69% ownership.

Xbox One goes up to 18.93% ownership, gaining less than 3% since the end of last year. I would expect a bigger jump for the Xbox One when we have these polls near the end of this year, since Microsoft did very well this year by announcing backwards compatibility at E3.

Wii U is now at 45.70% ownership, barely gaining 1% in ownership over the past 6 months. I think the Wii U will eventually reach 50% ownership, but I don't think it will even reach the Xbox 360's highest ownership on this site (just short of 60%).

Another poll schedule update:

7/14/2015 - Got Milk?

Apparently, that poll was just added into the database after someone posted a topic on Hardcore (private board) stating that the "Got Milk" ad campaign was discontinued back in early 2014 and pointed out that there hasn't been a "Got Milk?" poll since 2010.

As for tomorrow's poll (7/10/2015), I have no idea what poll will happen on that day. Maybe a "Got Ouya?" poll is possible, or maybe a poll that combines the Ouya and the other Android-based systems into one poll.

Looks like today's poll ended up being a poll that combines all of the major Android-based systems into one poll, rather than a straight "Got Ouya?" poll.

And to no one's surprise, these Android-based systems have absolutely horrendous ownership on this site. Each system on their own is nearly as bad (or worse) than the N-Gage. The N-Gage reached a maximum ownership of 1.54% on this site. Only the Amazon Fire TV and Ouya have a higher ownership than the N-Gage and it's not that much higher than the N-Gage.

wow the Wii U gained basically nothing
Yeah, that was a bit surprising. And that was with Smash already being out. I guess Smash wasn't able to save the Wii U here. The PS4 is on track to surpass the Wii U in ownership by the end of this year.

PS3's ownership went down to 68.60% in yesterday's poll. So the PS3 fails to break 70% ownership on this site.

Say what you want about the Wii U not looking so hot, but this doesn't hurt Smash 4 as much as other Wii U games. The 3DS version will at least patch up its weakness in the low playrate of the Wii U version.

Xbox 360's ownership drops to 49.09% in yesterday's poll. Xbox 360 ownership has lost a total of nearly 11% over the past 3 years. A lot of this comes from the fact that this site jumped on board with the Xbox 360 before the slim model was released and it was the original fat model that had the notorious RRoD issues. The RRoD issues from the fat 360 have started catching up to the users who bought their 360 before the release of the slim model. Those who lost their 360 to the RRoD fairly late in the console's life cycle probably don't have much interest in replacing it with a new 360, especially now the Xbox One will be getting some support for backwards compatibility.

Poll updates and trend charts for yesterday's poll:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oxSpLAnLjn4kVDocJHjYfMUd65oxLQAEF9bWDdVRNzU/pub?gid=1157536702

"I drive" has a slightly below average board vote and Power Hour. It does slightly better during the first hour of the night vote (compared to the Power Hour). After the first hour of the night vote, "I drive" begins dropping off really hard and performs worst during the late night vote before recovering during the morning vote. Despite having a weak night vote here, "I drive" never had a single hour below 44% and did not lose a single update to "Public transportation" during the entire poll. "I drive" reached a maximum percentage of 56.81% at 1:40 AM before it really started dropping off hard. It lost a total of 4.32% to reach its lowest percentage of 52.49% at 6:10 AM. After that point in time, "I drive" goes absolutely berserk during the morning vote and day vote and gains a total of 4.53% for the rest of the poll to finish with its final percentage of 57.02%. "I drive" actually had a stronger day vote and SNV compared to its Power Hour. "I drive" performs best during the last few hours of the poll, probably because of Europe going to sleep.

"I get a ride" had a very strong board vote and good Power Hour. It drops off during the night vote, but even the night vote is still its second best time period after the Power Hour. It performs worst during the early morning vote, although it does recover from that early morning vote by performing better during the late morning vote and the day vote. Finally, it has a bad SNV, which is nearly as bad as its early morning vote.

"I walk" has a below average board vote and Power Hour. It performs best during the night vote. It drops off a bit during the morning vote, but even that time period was just slightly above average. Finally, it drops off again during the day vote and SNV, which were roughly the same as its Power Hour. Overall, this option was the closest thing to having consistent trends over the course of the entire poll.

"I ride a bicycle" has a bad board vote and Power Hour. It performs best during the night vote and drops off slightly during the morning vote. Then it drops off even more during the day vote. Finally, the SNV was absolutely godawful, even worse than its Power Hour.

"Public transportation" performs worst during the board vote and Power Hour. It performs best during the night vote, while maintaining an above average early morning vote. The late morning vote was slightly below average. It has a bad day vote, although it does end up having a good SNV in this poll. Outside of the Power Hour, "Public transportation" reached its lowest percentage of 13.43% at 1:55 AM before gaining a total of 2.75% to reach its maximum percentage of 16.18% at 7:40 AM. Then it goes on to lose 1.16% to fall back to 15.02% at 10:00 AM. After that, "Public transportation" gains a very small amount of percentage to finish the poll at 15.07%.

"I just stay home" had a slightly above average board vote and Power Hour, but it performed best during the night vote. It performed worst during the morning vote and day vote, but its SNV was almost on par with its Power Hour. Here is another option that had somewhat consistent trends overall.

GameFAQs is hosting an AMA feature in the near future, as mentioned in this topic:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/11-sballin/72217605

This is definitely an opportunity for someone to really get tough on Allen about his lack of effort in boosting vote totals. I have already filled out the feedback form with a message where I get tough on Allen. This is the message I just sent earlier:

Near the end of the last Character Battle, you were on record as acknowledging that poll vote totals have declined very significantly over the past several years and planned to address this in the near future to bring these numbers back up again. Nearly 2 years later, I have not seen any serious effort on your part to address this. Addressing this issue nearly (or more) than 2 years after you stated this does not qualify as "near future" anymore. The extremely low vote totals in the PotD (and by extension, the contests too) is a very controversial issue over at Board 8, because it allows for outside forces to have more power during the contests since they don't need as many votes to change the overall winner of a poll. When are you finally going to address this issue, and do you have any ideas in mind that would at least boost the voting totals during the upcoming BGE contest?

EPIC POLL ALERT

An age poll is scheduled to happen on July 30th. At this point, we know the trends of the age poll very well, so the only interesting thing about the poll is seeing how much older GameFAQs has gotten. This poll may become only the second poll all year to break 30000 votes.

---

I see they made another change to the options. It's like Allen is aware that the average age is increasing among the people who still vote in these polls. In the previous polls, the last option used to be "Over 40".

425 votes at the freeze in today's poll. That's already fairly high in terms of vote totals at the freeze. Most polls typically have between 240 and 320 votes at the freeze.

2912 votes at the end of the first hour in this poll. This poll is on track to finish between 28500 and 31500 votes. I would give this poll maybe a 50% chance of reaching 30000 votes.

At the end of the first hour, the average age stands at 26.60 (it was 25.43 in the 2014 age poll). I expect the average age to increase slightly more overnight and drop off just slightly after the morning vote kicks in.

What a finish to yesterday's age poll. It took until the final update to break 30000 votes, ultimately finishing at 30028 votes. However, it was not the highest voted poll of this year, with the following poll getting just slightly higher vote totals:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/5794-

That poll had an advantage, because it happened earlier in the year during a time where vote totals were averaging about 23200 votes (compared to about 21200 votes over the past 30 days or so). The age poll would technically have the higher vote totals if both polls were playing on a level playing field. The age poll is still considered the king of all polls when it comes to bringing in the votes.

The most surprising thing in yesterday's poll was the massive increase in the average age of our users. In the 2014 age poll, the average age was 25.43. This has jumped all the way up to 27.31 in yesterday's poll, an increase of almost 2 years. This translates into an average age increase of 686 days over a 474 day span (total number of days between the 2014 and 2015 age polls). In addition to that, the average date of birth has fallen backwards by roughly 7 months (from 11/12/1988 to 4/13/1988).

Board 8 wiki page has just been updated with the new poll: http://board8.wikia.com/wiki/GameFAQs_Average_Age
