FFVII Remake will definitely boost the game. When released it will be one of the biggest games this gen and sell millions. It's timed exclusive on PS4 but it will come out on other platforms probably X1 and PC. I think it might be enough to actually beat OoT/Link. I mean if KH can boost Square characters so much imagine what FFVII Remake can do.

It's interesting to see how Nintendo's conference was the most hyped up a few days ago but is now getting crushed today. Ryu and Mario Maker just couldn't compete with Sony's big surprises or even Microsoft's Rare Replay.

When this poll was scheduled to happen today, I was concerned that this site would have an irrational hate for Microsoft and refuse to put Microsoft above Nintendo despite Nintendo looking really weak this year. The correct option is currently winning today, but even 27% of the site had Nintendo over Microsoft instead (with Sony still in first place).

I still need to work on completing trend charts for both polls that happened yesterday.

That's not true. After the Smash direct and the Mario Maker showings at the World Championships on Sunday, Nintendo was standing really strong. It was their digital event that was a letdown.

Congrats to raytan for winning the Guru Contest
Would it have made much of a difference? In the end both of the games/content for those were still shown in their E3 Direct. Nintendo's only real problem is they didn't have much of anything new to show and and "wasted" a good chunk of their time on developer diaries because they evidently had nothing else to even show.
Poll updates and trend charts from yesterday's night poll:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KtVIRGohgRQS6RYjxw9G-jOxGt6ZG6WwO28uMwzO0kk/pub?gid=1335221599

This poll started at 10:33 PM EST on the night of June 15th and ran until 12:53 PM on June 16th. Overall, that was a 14 hour, 20 minute poll. Judging from the vote totals here, I'd estimate this poll ends up with about 23000 votes in a full 24 hour poll.

As for the trend charts, the Power Hour time period ran from 10:33 PM to 11:33 PM. After the Power Hour ends, the poll enters the FNV and runs from 11:33 PM to 6:03 AM. The BSV and DSV were calculated the way they normally would be calculated.

The trends for this poll echoes a flashback to the 2013 version of this poll, in which the "A - Nailed it" option gets off to such a hot start because the site was so euphoric when Sony laid the hammer on Microsoft for confirming the lack of DRM features in the PS4. Since the "A - Nailed it" option started off with such a hot performance at the start of the 2013 poll, it had no where to go but lose percentage for the entire poll. Even during the worst time period (morning vote) for "A - Nailed it", it was still kicking the teeth out of the "B - Looking good" option.

In this year's poll for grading Sony's E3 performance, the "A - Outstanding" option starts off with a really strong board vote and Power Hour due to the FFVII remake announcement, along with other high profile game announcements. After the Power Hour ended, "A - Outstanding" lost about 8% for the rest of this poll. About 4% of that loss went to the "B - Good job" option, while "C - Okay" gained about 3%, and the last remaining 1% were the scraps that "D - Bad" and "F - Terrible" were fighting over. "A - Outstanding" had a slightly below average night vote and a terrible morning vote here.

"A - Outstanding" was not overly dominant in this poll and it could only ride the early vote on route to build up a 378 vote lead over "B - Good job" at 11:48 PM. After 11:48 PM, "B - Good job" made an attempt to pull off a comeback and used the early part of the night vote to get the lead under 300 before "A - Outstanding" would use the later part of the night vote to stall out "B - Good job". 7:03 AM was the last time that "A - Outstanding" had a lead of at least 300 votes or more over "B - Good job", because "B - Good job" would go on to use the morning vote to made a serious push at a comeback. "B - Good job" was on pace to complete the comeback, but it was halted when a new poll got put up at 12:53 PM. At the pace that "B - Good job" was cutting into the lead, even an extra 30 minutes would have resulted in a lead change.

"B - Good job" had trends that were the exact opposite of "A - Outstanding". It had a terrible board vote and Power Hour, average night vote, and strong morning vote.

"C - Okay" had a bad board vote and Power Hour as well. It had a good night vote and an even better morning vote.

"D - Bad" and "F - Terrible" had the most consistent trends overall in this poll. "D - Bad" performed best during the early morning vote, while "F - Terrible" did best during the night vote.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ro9CsihTvRJCTpkSzk7j5oip9D1MvWRMaX6_CLm_itE/pub?gid=1816165680

Trend charts were handled by setting the Power Hour to ran from 12:53 PM to 1:59 PM. The DSV ran from 1:59 PM to 2:29 PM, while the ASV and SNV were calculated as they normally would be. As for the vote totals in this poll, I'd put an estimate of 22000 votes had this poll ran for a full 24 hours.

"A - Amazing" and "B - Looking good" both started off with a bad board vote and Power Hour. They both performed best during the ASV and SNV.

"C - Unimpressive" performed worst during the board vote and Power Hour. It had a pretty good DSV, although that was only a 30 minute time period. It dropped off during the ASV and then performed good during the SNV.

"D - Bad" had fairly consistent trends for most of this poll before finishing this poll with a bad SNV.

"F - Awful" performed best during the board vote and Power Hour. After the Power Hour ended, it dropped off somewhat and maintained consistent trends for the rest of this poll.

I never come to this board in the off season, but FF7 remake is B-I-G!

Not just as a fan, but big for the contests too, as the game and characters were headed toward contest irrelevance.

I wonder if this will impact a game contest in any meaningful way. I doubt FF7 would have been a top 5 game anymore without it. It may not even have been the strongest FF entry.

I've linked to creativename to that poll before, through a email I sent him a while ago. That poll generated a lot of discussion in the contest stats topic, much more than a usual poll would normally receive. I even tracked poll updates and trend charts:

Poll updates - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PiUsAZucUJE0wRACvE2HXrZl8nw6V40KF2z5w1RyAp4/pub
Trend charts - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PiUsAZucUJE0wRACvE2HXrZl8nw6V40KF2z5w1RyAp4/pub?gid=1

It was an exciting poll, for sure. FFVII found itself down by 269 votes from the early vote and used the night vote and morning vote to claw its way back into the match, resulting in a wire-to-wire poll for roughly 14 hours before FFVI pulled away in the final 2 hours of the poll. FFVII won more than half of the hours (14 separate hours) and still lost. On the day after that poll happened, I made this excellent post in the contest stats topic:

-LusterSoldier- posted...
Yesterday's poll does have some problems that prevents it from being a reliable poll to use when analyzing an actual contest match. The biggest problem is clearly the wording of the poll question. The question for yesterday's poll was worded in a way that suggests you can only vote in the poll if you have played both games. Those who have only played FFVI or only FFVII are not very likely to vote in that poll. Since FFVI and FFVII both have pretty high playrates of their own (63.17% for FFVI and 70.83% for FFVII), there is going to be a ton of overlap between people who have played FFVI and those who have played FFVII. Probably at least 50% of this site has played both games.

But if this had been an actual contest match, people who have only played FFVI will vote for FFVI, while those who have only played FFVII will vote for FFVII. For the most part, that would be true. The only exception here would be someone who has only played FFVII, but didn't like the game (it wouldn't make sense to vote for a game you didn't like). The same concept would also apply to people who have played (and didn't like) FFVI, but haven't played FFVII.

Regardless of who won yesterday's poll, it will almost certainly make Board 8 more cautious about picking FFVII over other games that would be regarded as "Top 10" on this site (minus OoT, because it clearly beats out FFVII here). Although I would hesitate to pick FFVI over FFVII in an actual contest setting, I would be willing to pick other "Top 10" games such as LttP and Pokemon RBY over FFVI. A few years ago (around 2010-2011), we were discussing the prospect of Pokemon RBY > FFVII in a future Games Contest. After yesterday's poll, maybe Pokemon RBY > FFVII isn't such a crazy idea after all.

Imaginary? you think FFVII Remake won't boost the game and its characters?

I agree it won't be out for a while. 2017 seems likely, coinciding with its 20th anniversary. The game has been in development since early 2014, so it's definitely coming. I doubt SE will allow this game to go through development hell.

As for the poll votals, hopefully this is as bad as they will get. Maybe we will see a rebound when big games come out in the future. 2016 seems like it will be a great year for games.

FFVII Remake dominating today's poll. Also, FFVII's trends seem to be different in this poll than I would normally expect to see from the game. It actually had a very strong early vote where it had nearly 50% at the end of the first minute in this poll. It has since fallen below 44% by the time the freeze kicked in.

The vote totals on this poll are pretty good so far. We've got 2460 votes at the end of the first hour, which puts this poll on track to finish between 24000 and 27000 votes. For comparison, average vote totals are currently around 21000 right now.

To be fair, the quality of those games have nothing to do with the votals of this site. Advancement of technology have made alternative forms of gameplay guides much more accessible, such as gameplay videos and graphical walkthroughs. Most of the time, i would rather go to youtube and look for the trailer or walkthrough.

Just to give you a better understanding of the decline, one year ago, we were still getting around 30k votal, now we are simply averaging around 20-21k. We lost 10k of votals within a year, that is crazy if you ask me.

Regarding FF7 vs RBY, wouldn't RBY be the clear favorite? That is, without the Remake, or the upcoming PS4 port. I don't see this as a close match.

I think FF7 might still have more "raw" strength than FF6 - that is, if everyone voted once. But polls aren't truly democratic. Those who vote in bunches (stuff votes), or who can leverage their choice via rallies, have always been against FF7. It needs to be thousands of votes ahead in raw strength to win, which is hard these days.

And even it's raw strength is barely higher than FF6's. This makes sense as FF6 has been ported to handhelds, and of lesser significance, to mobile.

FF7 until the PS4 port has had almost nothing of significance. Cloud and Sephiroth had the KH boost but that was ages ago and has probably long since faded

Hell even the port isn't a remaster or anything - it should still be significant but only because at least it's something a noteworthy number will actually play.

Regarding the Remake boost: if the game receives an under 80% Gamerankings score it will be considered a flop. 80-85% a disappointment, but there should still be a fair boost. 85+% and a very large boost. 90+% and Cloud could become a top 5 character again.
Unless the remake comes close to matching the magic of the original, Cloud will get a bigger boost from the pre-release hype than he will from the game actually being released. This is his version of Twilight Princess.

But yeah, unless vote totals improve, FFVII and its characters will still be very susceptible to rallies, so I don't expect it to win the upcoming Games Contest or anything of the sort.

Skyrim is almost certainly stronger than Fallout 3.
New Vegas should be a good bit weaker than Fallout 3.

Starcraft 1 probably won't impress but shouldn't be terrible.

Everything else you listed is probably worthless outside of rallies. Minecraft and probably Counterstrike would at least have a decent playrate I guess? This really isn't the right community for either to do well, though. With rallies, of course, the sky's the limit.

I don't think New Vegas would be that far off from 3, actually. And in a head to head matchup New Vegas would RSFF some votes from 3. 3 probably wins, but New Vegas is pretty comparable. It would be like... FF10 vs. FF6 closeness.

Fallout 3 vs Skyrim is interesting. I think Skyrim is beginning to cool off, while Fallout hype for Fallout 4 is very real. I might pick Fallout over Skyrim right now.

Most of the others are probably meh outside of rallies. Mainly picked them because they all have big subreddits/outside sources. I think Minecraft the game is much stronger than the characters, should be interesting.
