GameFAQs Contests
Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 1189
OrangeCrush980 posted... We won't know for sure unless we have another games tournament, but Brawl losing more strength than Melee did makes sense. I don't know where SSB4 would fit in in an actual contest though. Recent Nintendo games are weird in that a ton of people praise them and they get very high user scores, but they tend to choke when it comes to competitive things. I would say this is only an issue with Wii U games, due to their lower playrate compared to a lot of games on previous Nintendo consoles. This is not so much of an issue with 3DS games, as the system has a much higher ownership than the Wii U. As for SSB4, it managed to score over 90% on Brawl in a board poll just one month after its release. And in a board poll that happened 2 months after its release, SSB4 scores almost 75% on Melee. So even though SSB4 clearly seems to be more liked than Brawl, it still has the playrate disadvantage that will allow a lesser liked game (whether it's Brawl or any non-Smash game) to defeat it in a contest match. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |

Poll updates and trend charts for yesterday's poll: https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdG9YUFdWTGk1VmlDdk1xc1c2VjdKVFE&gid=3 "Over-The-Air/Antenna" had a weak board vote and slightly below average board Power Hour. It performed best during the night vote and early morning vote. After the early morning vote, it dropped off slightly and performed below average for the rest of the poll. "Cable/Digital Cable" had a very strong board vote, but it crashed hard during the Power Hour, losing about 5% from the board vote until the end of the Power Hour. Even then, it still had a good Power Hour. "Cable/Digital Cable" performed worst during the night vote and SNV. It performed slightly better during the early morning vote and ASV, but only the late morning vote even matches the Power Hour performance here. "Satellite" had a good board vote, but ultimately finished with a below average Power Hour. Outside of the board vote, it performed best during the night vote and ASV. It performed worst during the Power Hour, morning vote, and SNV. "IPTV" had a good board vote. Overall, "IPTV" had the most balanced trends out of all the options in this poll, although it performed worst during the night vote and best during the SNV. "None" had a extremely terrible board vote. But it was what happened after the board vote that really surprised me. During the rest of the Power Hour, "None" managed to gain almost 8.50%. That is one of the largest percentage increases for any one option during the Power Hour. That huge momentum carried over to the night vote, as it ended up gaining another 1.59% to reach its maximum percentage of 27.75% at 4:45 AM. After that point in time, it quickly lost about 0.60% in a span of about 2 hours. Compared to the night vote, "None" dropped off somewhat during the morning vote. It bounced back during the ASV, performing better during that time period compared to the night vote. It performed best during the SNV. "None" performed well enough during the ASV and SNV to gain about 0.50% during the last 6 1/2 hours of the poll. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/2708-whats-the-best-game-ever-created polls sure were more interesting back in the day |
Poll updates and trend charts for yesterday's poll: https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdGYwdnZBeFZUQTE5UkY0RkhWZVloaHc&gid=1 I didn't track poll updates for the same poll back in 2014 because I originally thought it wouldn't have any interesting trends. But looking at the graphs for last year's poll, I can definitely notice some trends there. So that was why I tracked this poll when it was re-run yesterday. Both polls from 2014 and 2015 have similar trends and that's considering the 2014 poll happened on a weekday, while the 2015 poll was on a weekend. There are some very minor differences, but I won't bother mentioning those. Anyways, I'll only be talking about the trends from yesterday's poll. "Not sure what Pi is" performed worst during the board vote and Power Hour. It had an average night vote. The early morning vote and SNV were easily its best time period. The late morning vote was below average, while the day vote was slightly above average. "Just the first three" had a good board vote, but dropped off after the freeze to finish with a bad Power Hour. It performed best during the night vote and early morning vote. The late morning vote and day vote were below average, while the SNV was the worst time period for "Just the first three". Although the trends weren't that impressive just by looking at the hourly trends, the percentage gain during the night vote and early morning vote caught my attention here. "Just the first three" had 44.95% at the start of the night vote and managed to gain a total of 3.53% to reach a maximum percentage of 48.48% at 9:20 AM. It later went on to lose a total of 1.67% to finish the poll with 46.81%. "4-6 digits" had bad board vote and slightly below average Power Hour. It performed worst during the night vote. Overall, it had a slightly above average morning vote and day vote. It performed best during the SNV. "4-6 digits" had its lowest percentage of 28.89% at 7:00 AM and it later went on gain a total of 1.48% to finish with 30.37%. "7-10 digits" performed best during the Power Hour. The late morning vote, day vote, and SNV were above average. However, it performed worst during the night vote and early morning vote. During the night vote, "7-10 digits" had its highest percentage of 13.66% at 1:55 AM, before going on to lose 2.04% to drop all the way down to 11.62% at 8:40 AM. After that point in time, it gain 0.60% to end up with a final percentage of 12.22%. "More than 10 digits" performed best during the Power Hour as well. It performed worst during the early morning vote. The night vote, late morning vote, and day vote were fairly average, while the SNV was above average. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |

I'm
not even sure I'd pick Paper Matio II above the first, yet you have it 9
seeds higher. Same goes for difference between Melee and Brawl, it's
not that great. Brawl is definitely too low now. And Pokemon RBY seeded
3? What the hell. --- *2, *8,070,446 Kuroko no Basket *3, *6,495,240 Naruto |
Basing seedings partially off the recent top 100 does stuff like that. I suppose RBY should be a 2 and Brawl a 5 then. And probably Paper Mario an 11. Skyrim and CT were given 1 seeds so as to lessen the risk of the first semifinal being an SFF match. Admittedly if Melee or Brawl pulls through it still would be, oops. --- Play Pac-Man World 2. |
I
get that seeds are according to the top 100 by DDJ, but I'm sure most
will agree with R/B/Y is the #2nd strongest game right now. |
Seeding doesn't matter too much, as long as the matches are interesting. Though at the same time RBY, Melee and Brawl don't need to be in the same 8-pack --- BOP Results: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/CB9%20BOP.xls Congrats to raytan for winning the Guru Contest |
Will probably stick at least one of those in FFVII's division then. --- Play Pac-Man World 2. |
Okay, division 4 changes: -RBY is the 2 seed -Melee, Brawl, and Paper Mario are gone -Dark Souls is the 3 seed -SOTN is the 4 seed -Mario 1 is the 13 seed -Zelda 1 is the 14 seed -Final Fantasy 1 is the 15 seed -Xenogears is the 7 seed --- Play Pac-Man World 2. |

He
didn't do this badly in the 2009 or 2011 RE character polls. I'd guess
this is Chris's RE5 boost wearing off - Wesker has also plummeted.
There's probably a reason Chris missed the contest in 2013 despite there
being a 243-character bracket. RIP Nemesis --- [NO BARKLEY NO PEACE] [NO raytan NO PEACE] |
Safer_777 posted... Leon is winning but 1 out of 4 people hasn't played a single RE game? A playrate of roughly 73% isn't as bad as you might be assuming. Here is a change that could actually boost vote totals again: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/2000094-faq-contributors-general/71464477 Despite the changes made to the plain-text FAQ header over the past few months, it still struggles from the major problem of creating a huge dead-end for anyone who lands on a plain-text FAQ from Google. Navigating directly to the homepage from a plain-text FAQ is very difficult to do because the only way to the homepage is a small "G" logo on the left-hand side of the header. And I assume a lot of visitors aren't aware they can click on the "G" logo. Besides that, there is no direct link to register for a GameFAQs account, which makes it more difficult for a visitor to register for an account. Navigating to other parts of the site can also be accomplished by using the new "Menu" on the right-hand side of the header, but even that still requires the visitor to click on "Menu" first. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |

Go Claire best RE character. Not that the series is character-driven or anything, but then again if Claire and Leon were (even more?) generic their games wouldn't be as good. Okay out of opinion land, IIRC Nemesis hasn't appeared in any Resident Evil game since 3 aside from some random arcade game. Most of us IIRC also thought Claire did respectably last character battle, though I dunno if 25% on Master Choke and Yuna is all that worthy. If you think Chief declined Claire is literally on the level of Spy and Crash Bandicoot...though Crash did well last contest and Spy probably declined as TF2 fell out of the limelight. So Wheatley probably 55-45's Claire. --- Play Pac-Man World 2. |
