This poll was a dud when I tracked trends the previous time we had it. If
we assume under 4 inches is 3 inches and over 8 inches is 9 inches the
average size is 6.2 inches which isn't too bad for something people tend
to over exaggerate about (isn't the US average just under 6 inches?) --- BOP Results: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/CB9%20BOP.xls Congrats to raytan for winning the Guru Contest |

Whatever
happens to the voting trends in this poll, I'm not sure I can even
trust them because this poll is seriously flawed in multiple areas.
There's technically no option for people that have never played games at
work and there's no option for mobile or portable gaming. These problems are clearly reflected by the fact this poll has just 1733 votes at the end of the first hour, putting it on track for 16000 to 18000 votes. That's less votes than our highest voted GotY polls earlier this month. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |
let's PM SBAllen about the contest. I think he forgot about it. --- ... |
As
for yesterday's poll, the trends were fairly disappointing. The poll
graphs on GameFAQs show a clear change in trends shortly after the
morning vote kicked in, even though the hourly trends don't show
anything that would be considered extreme trends. This is a case where
the poll graphs appear to show a much larger trend shift than what I
actually saw in the hourly trends for each option. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |

Based
on past polls, it seems like the Patriots would have defeated the
Seahawks on this site. But there is a lot of uncertainty this year
because of the playoff controversy surrounding the Patriots. It will be
interesting to see if the playoff controversy will backfire on them and
cause GameFAQs to vote for the Seahawks over the Patriots. The Seahawks have an all-time record of 0-2 on this site (lost to the Broncos and Steelers in 2 different polls). The Patriots have an all-time of 2-1 on this site (defeated the Steelers and Panthers, lost to the Giants). --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |
Gawd I hate polls when it only targets the USA audience only. I'm just kinda barely aware of this sport's rules. |
Tomorrow's
poll will be a very extreme case of Geolocation trends heavily favoring
North America here. I have no way of being able to calculate
continental vote splits anymore. But here were the vote splits for the
2011 and 2013 Super Bowl polls: Continent - 2011 Poll - 2013 Poll North America - 87.25% - 85.99% South America - 1.09% - 1.22% Europe - 8.39% - 9.29% Asia - 1.55% - 1.70% Oceania - 1.67% - 1.65% Africa - 0.05% - 0.16% --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |
Welp,
looks like we didn't get a 1v1 poll this year. With there being 2
options for the Patriots and 2 for the Seahawks, I thought about
combining the 4 options into 2 options when I do my poll updates for
this poll, so we can get a direct 1v1 comparison. However, I'll also do
updates for this poll where I don't combine the options for the
Patriots and Seahawks into 2 separate options. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |
In
fact, that's what I'll do for this poll. In a different topic on this
board, Xuxon gave me the idea of also tracking this poll based on how
this site is voting in the poll on the basis of which team they want to
win. I already came up with the idea of tracking this poll based on
which team this site thinks will win. And finally, I also have a
spreadsheet for tracking this poll normally. So here are the 3 separate
poll update spreadsheets for today's poll: Who I think will win - https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdDQxNTBoU2trbHJTYUQ5NFc5VlBMT3c&gid=2 Who I want to win - https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdDQxNTBoU2trbHJTYUQ5NFc5VlBMT3c&gid=3 Normal poll update tracking - https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdDQxNTBoU2trbHJTYUQ5NFc5VlBMT3c&gid=4 As for the poll so far, we finished the first hour with 1325 votes. That will put us on track to finish between 12000 and 15000 votes, which is somewhat on par with the average vote totals for the GotY 2014 polls. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |

Now that this year's Super Bowl poll has ended, I can finally talk about the results and trends. The poll just barely reached 12000 votes at the end, putting it on the lower end of the vote totals for the GotY 2014 polls. Since there was no traditional 1v1 poll for this year's poll, I was able to use the options provided in this poll to recreate the traditional 1v1 poll instead. Besides tracking the poll updates and trends normally, there were 3 different ways of using the options in this poll to create different ways of tracking poll updates. By combining the vote totals of the first and second options in one option and also doing the same thing for the third and fourth options, I was able to track poll updates and trends on the basis of what team this site thinks will win the Super Bowl. The previous 1v1 Super Bowl polls were conducted on the basis of choosing what team you think will win, so this was a recreated version of the classic 1v1 poll. In a different topic on this board, I got the idea from Xuxon to also track this poll based on what team this site actually wants to win the poll. This is different than choosing what team you think will win. There has only been one poll on this site where you vote based on what team you actually want to win the Super Bowl. For comparison: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/1509- http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/1510- Simply changing a few words in the poll question has a significant impact on the voting results, as you can see just by looking at those 2 polls. In the case of this year's Super Bowl poll, 56.75% of the site thought the Seahawks would win. But 63.25% of the site actually wanted the Seahawks to win. This is a 6.50% difference, which could easily be explained by Patriots being more hated this year from the ball deflating controversy. The third possible way of tracking poll updates is by figuring out what percentage of this site thinks the team that will win the Super Bowl is also the same team they actually want to win the Super Bowl. This is calculated by combining the first and fourth options together, while the second and third options are combined together to figure out what percentage of this site is rooting for a team they think will not win the Super Bowl. Overall, 77.59% of this site is supporting a team that they think will win the Super Bowl, although this percentage would probably be higher in a normal NFL year when neither team is faced with controversy heading into the Super Bowl. You would obviously expect people to root for the same team they think will also win the Super Bowl. The trends for this are quite boring and not even worth talking about. I did not even bother to put the poll updates for this on the spreadsheet, although I do have them on my computer. And finally, I tracked the poll updates like I normally would have, to figure out the trends for all 4 options. Trend charts for yesterday's poll: https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdDQxNTBoU2trbHJTYUQ5NFc5VlBMT3c&gid=5 --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |
Trend charts on the basis of tracking poll updates like I normally would have: "Patriots, cheering for them" had a slightly above average board vote and Power Hour. It performed worst during the night vote. The early morning vote, day vote, and SNV were also below average as well. It performed best during the late morning vote. "Patriots, rooting for Seahawks" performed best during the board vote, but ultimately dropped off to finish with an average Power Hour. It performed worst during the night vote and SNV. The morning vote and day vote were slightly above average overall. "Seahawks, but a Patriots win" performed worst during the board vote, late morning vote, and SNV. After a bad board vote, it ended up having an above average board vote overall. It dropped off slightly during the night vote (compared to the Power Hour). The early morning vote was the best time period for "Seahawks, but a Patriots win" and it had an average day vote overall. "Seahawks, I hope they win" had a really bad board vote and a somewhat less awful Power Hour and late morning vote. It performed best during the night vote and SNV, while the early morning vote and day vote were slightly below average. As for the trend charts on the basis of choosing what team this site actually wants to win the Super Bowl, they were quite boring. Over the course of the entire 24 hours, the trends were very consistent, with most of the hours ranging between 62% and 65% for the Seahawks. Trend charts on the basis of this site choosing what team they think will win (the traditional 1v1 poll): The Seahawks had a very weak board vote, nearly losing to the Patriots during this time period. But after the board vote, the Patriots dropped off hard and the Seahawks finished with a slightly below average Power Hour overall. The Seahawks ultimately performed best during the night vote, although it also had a strong SNV as well. It dropped off during the early morning vote and performed worst during the late morning vote. The day vote was slightly above average for the Seahawks. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |

I'm
very grateful to Allen for running the contest and doing the whole
noble 9 thing and allowing in Spring Breeze Dancin and Chester and doing
the bonus polls. Those were truly terrific ideas that added to the
contest tenfold. But the way he handled the Draven controversy absolutely opens himself up for professional criticism. The people who refused to see this and pretended that he was not only completely right in everything he did but that users were wrong to even question him are the true villains of the piece - those are the people that tried to quell discussion and present this uppity arrogance as "maturity". --- "...and then he became Doctor Doom." - Daniel Bryan |
I'm currently reading through the stats topics for GOTD just for fun, and wow at some of the stuff we were going on about. And as horrible as I was back then, Ulti was even worse. --- Play Pac-Man World 2. |
The way Allen treated the people who support his site is akin to taking a bunch of random people from a town and shooting them point-blank in the face just to exert power. Allen is clearly on a power-trip and I hope CBS takes down the king and I hope he goes bankrupt and his wife leaves him and he dies alone and unloved while I stand above him laughing at his misery. Because he deserves it for making a mistake in an online video game character popularity contest. --- Current Let's Play: Mother 3 - http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3652080 Previous: http://lparchive.org/author/mega64 |
