I think it's pretty clearly multiplatform. I wish Allen would go back to the 2012 format, that was great. Especially with how bad most platform's lineups were. Which makes me wonder what will win system of the year. Does the Wii U have a shot? It should at least beat the other gen 8 systems, although maybe the PS3 (hilarious when you think about it) or PC will take it. swordz9 posted... It was confirmed as multiplatform from the moment it was announced, before full development even began all the way back in E3 2011. When the Wii U was first announced as well. Genres
instead of platforms. Also bonus categories for best review and FAQ on
GameFAQs which were nice. Got people to take a look at those when they
usually wouldn't have. I liked it a lot because it stopped rampant SFF and the final poll felt like more of a true representation. Plus so few non-Nintendo games are exclusives nowadays that system awards feel strange. That way you can have all the best games in the final poll rather than having fewer games due to one game winning the poll for multiple systems. Whatever wins for PS4 will probably win for Xbox One and maybe even PC, same for the PS3 and 360. At this rate we'll end up with a final poll consisting of 5 games. On the other hand games like Bravely Default and Bayonetta would probably win genre polls but are getting fed to Smash Bros. I feel the harsh drop in this poll is largely due to the fact that the 3DS just didn't have a very good year. Let's see how the others, specifically the final poll, go. Even
if both versions are included separately, I feel like one version of
Smash Bros. will be included in the final GOTY poll as long as they get a

The answers aren't interesting when they're a result of low votals. Like I don't think it's interesting that Pokemon can wipe the floor with everyone else. Eh,
the vote totals don't change the results too much, with exceptions. The
site has always had this demographic representation. Pokémon was

It was only a 2013 release outside of North America. The categories for best review and best FAQ were absolutely terrible. Best Review barely surpassed 10000 votes and this was in early 2013 where the vote totals for non-GotY polls were around 40000 votes, so Best Review got only 25% of the vote totals we would have normally gotten on average for a non-GotY poll. Even a Mobile Game poll during the GotY 2012 polls would have gotten more votes than Best Review. surprised there was an actual PS3 poll this year, as I assumed the
release of the PS4 would mean fewer games coming out on PS3 (even they
are also available on PS4). I thought a combined PS3/PS4 poll would

kind of weird to see KH regularly beat FF in polls like this,
especially considering we're going on 9 years since the last time we've

Dark
Souls II looks really disappointing in today's poll, as that was one
game I had on watch as a game that might upset SSB4 in the overall GotY
poll. I suspect Dark Souls II will likely appear in the 360 poll as

Today's
poll has 1830 votes after the first hour, so it is doing slightly
better than the 3DS poll. Using the same calculations I used to
estimate yesterday's vote totals, here are the same projections for some
of the other categories if Bacon uses the same categories from last
year: 20567 - PlayStation 3 10200 - PlayStation Vita 14403 - Wii U 14255 - Xbox 360 14114 - PC 7984 - Mobile 13992 - Download Only 21286 - Game of the Year 25928 - Game of the Year (Final) 23566 - System of the Year Mobile would easily be the worst poll, possibly getting under 8000 votes. I think that's a little low for the Mobile poll, as this year's Mobile poll will actually have a notable game in Hearthstone. The Vita poll could also have a chance at getting under 10000 votes as well. it did. The PS3 was slightly behind the 3DS poll in vote totals.
Without a heavy hitter such as "The Last of Us" in this year's PS3 poll,
there was no notable PS3 game that would have given it the edge over

Wow,
this PS4 poll is pretty bad. The top 2 games right now are upgraded
ports of last-gen games. It would be pretty weird to see GTA V in two
different GotY polls, or "The Last of Us" reappearing in another GotY

totals for this PS4 poll are certainly down compared to the PS3 poll.
With only 1504 votes at the end of the first hour, this poll is on track
to finish between 14000 and 17000 votes. The upcoming Xbox One poll (in the next few days) may also be a possible candidate to finish with under 10000 votes, due to the extreme unpopularity of the Xbox One and the low ownership of the system. I just noticed Allen put neither Destiny, Watchdogs, nor AssCreed Unity in today's poll. Sure, they were slightly disappointing, but I still feel they should have been there. not going to be a multiplatform poll, as all of these games (except
technically The Last of Us Remastered) are multiplatform. Literally

For
some reason I just think that Allen has lost interest in the website
lately (like for the past few years). Half of the projects never happen,
the projects which do get done are always delayed, half of the years we
went dry with no contests. Yeah sure the traffic has increased but that has nothing to do with Allen, as he said, this is the google era, you want something and you google it. So just a few minutes of traffic to the walkthroughs isn't getting this website anywhere. By January 2016 5-10k vote totals would be a regular thing. |
With
another full year of polls behind us, I finally updated the average
vote totals for each year so far. Here is the new list, with 2014
included: 1999 - 4408 2000 - 7062 2001 - 14019 2002 - 34435 2003 - 55397 2004 - 54598 2005 - 56643 2006 - 74644 2007 - 87908 2008 - 91112 2009 - 85797 2010 - 72588 2011 - 56882 2012 - 42981 2013 - 36506 2014 - 27323 We're still above 2001 vote totals, but easily below 2002 vote totals. And the average vote totals for 2014 don't really tell the whole story as we were slightly above 30000 votes to start the year and finished the year averaging around 22800 votes. Overall, the drop off in vote totals from 2013 to 2014 (down by 25.15%) is just slightly worse than the drop off from 2011 to 2012 (down by 24.44%). Averaging less than 10000 votes a day is not likely to happen at all.
