According to this list 3 out of the 4 top games are zelda games. Man! --- Why do we exist? What happens when we stop existing? |
I've got one too. Games in the top two tiers are kind of ordered within each tier but the others aren't: 1. God Tier: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 2. Elite Tier Pokemon RBY Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past Super Mario 64 Super Mario World Super Mario Bros. 3 Super Smash Brothers Melee Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Chrono Trigger Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy VI Final Fantasy X Super Smash Brothers Brawl Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Super Mario Bros. 3. Near-elite Tier: Legend of Zelda Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker Pokemon GSC Goldeneye Final Fantasy IX Kingdom Hearts I Kingdom Hearts II Metal Gear Solid Metal Gear Solid 3 Resident Evil 4 Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim 4. High-midcard: Super Mario Galaxy Super Mario RPG Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Metroid Prime Final Fantasy VIII Final Fantasy Tactics Metal Gear Solid 2 Metal Gear Solid 4 Half-Life 2 Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Fallout 3 Portal Mass Effect 2 Shadow of the Colossus --- [NO BARKLEY NO PEACE] [NO raytan NO PEACE] |
Nanis23 posted... I do wonder if Skyrim really is powerful today as it was in the year it was released... Probably not, though I'm sure it'll be at least as impressive as Fallout 3 was in GotD. LinkMarioSamus posted... It's difficult to see MGS4 or Skyward Sword being worth much. Also in that case where the heck is SOTC in the conversation? I see all MGS games to around the same power with 3 having the edge. As I said, some assumptions thrown in there. However, Arkham Asylum did pretty decent against Fallout 3, and Arkham City is pretty much universally more liked and considered to be the better game. With western games on the rise, I don't see Arkham City being much weaker than where I've put it. Oh and yeah, forgot SotC. It'd probably be around the 5th - 6th tier. @AxemRedRanger While obviously we can't base any game's power, I doubt any Mario game is powerful enough to challenge R/BY. And never trust anything from Pokemon besides R/B/Y. Games like FF8 definitely have a shot at G/S/C. |
No
disagreement from me on RBY > any Mario. I think the stronger ones
would only get pushed down to around 45% at worst, though. GSC isn't RBY-strong but it's clearly looked more powerful than the later generations. It did just as well as Wind Waker against Majora's Mask. GSC being a tier above FFVIII also has something to do with my opinion on the latter. Squall's 2013 performance, that Final Fantasy series poll from Thursday, and DDJ's top 100 list give me several reasons to think it's gotten significantly weaker. Looking at my list again though, I do have some doubts about Goldeneye and the Kingdom Hearts games being notably if at all above FFVIII. --- [NO BARKLEY NO PEACE] [NO raytan NO PEACE] |
Well,
low vote totals kind of makes DDJ'S list more relevant. I don't know
how much votes we'll get in a 12 hours match, 15,000? Yeah something
like that. All MGS games can probably beat KH games, have no idea how
Goldeneye would do and,, well its really kinda hard to gauge pokemon
games. Any way, match ups will matter a lot and random things always
happen. (Fun part of the contest except for last year's) |
Looks
like Nintendo has potential to take up all of the top 10 spots. If
that's the case, then at least i am glad this site is dying. --- Man is not the creature of circumstances. Circumstances are the creatures of man. |
If
anything, we have more variety than five-ten years ago since I see
Skyrim as a top ten contender (though near the bottom of that list), and
League of Legends if you count that. --- Current Let's Play: Mother 3 - http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3652080 Previous: http://lparchive.org/author/mega64 |
Going
by the list the positions of Brawl, TP, GoldenEye, MGS4, Skyward Sword,
and Oblivion are VERY suspect. And considering how different things
turned out to be last contest, there's probably a good chance things
have changed a great deal as far as the site's preferred games, so our
site's own new top 100 might be a better indicator of how a new games
contest would go than past contest results. --- Play Pac-Man World 2. |
-Zelmor- posted... Looks like Nintendo has potential to take up all of the top 10 spots. If that's the case, then at least i am glad this site is dying. Going off THE LIST (lol), it's only 5 of the top 10. It's rather suspicious to rely on that list though considering what happened last time. On the other hand, if we had a contest next year then the list would be only a year old as opposed to last time where the list was four years old. Also, we've seen evidence for Brawl/TP/MGS4 declining anyway. Then there's Metroid Prime beasting in GOTD despite its poor perfornace in '09, the list and Samus's strong showing last character battle (though this might have been more her opponents being weak, who knows) seems to suggest that Prime kept its newfound strength but it's anyone's guess. --- Play Pac-Man World 2. |
I
believe in Skyrim. It doubled LoZ:SS in its 2011-GotY, which was the
only time a console LoZ-title has lost here -- even LoZ:LBW won as a
handheld last year. Skyrim also impressed in the GotG-poll a year
later; it nearly doubled Mass Effect 2 and I think it could beat Brawl
today...definitely feel good about it against Fallout 3, and FO3 almost
had 46% on Brawl. Throw in the WRPGs have overtaken JRPGs, and Skyrim
has every reason to go far. Now, whether or not LoZ:SS is respectable competition is a different discussion (or ME2, post-ME3), but it's acceptable to say Skyrim is far beyond them. --- M E N: nominate Metal Man in 20XX! http://i.imgur.com/Dr4NAeq.png |
The
big thing to worry about is that it might have quickly plummeted in
strength. MGS4 used to be huge and strong in contests, but now people
are lukewarm towards it and it's a lot weaker. Skyrim shouldn't have
dropped nearly that much, but this is NostalgiaFAQs... --- Courage is the magic that turns dreams into reality |

Whatever RE4's play rate is, I bet it's the highest of anything in the survival horror genre. About GotY: it looks pretty obvious SSB4 will win, even if they are split into separate 3DS and Wii U options. Wii U is the "complete" game, but it seems hard to believe a Wii U game would be allowed to win GotY and we did just see our first handheld-GotY last year. Should there be a poll putting the two versions together, which do you take? --- M E N: nominate Metal Man in 20XX! http://i.imgur.com/Dr4NAeq.png |

I
think the Wii U version stomps due to people being bitter about Ice
Climbers. Also while handhelds have come a long ways, most people still

While fair about handhelds, you could say the same for how people feel about the Wii U. The original Wii had about 58% ownership at the time that Brawl was released. The Wii U however, is looking like it will have around 40% ownership at the time SSB4 it was released. We'll see what happens in a week from now when we get to see another update on the Wii U's ownership. Mario Kart 8 had almost no impact at all during our last Wii U poll, but that was more of a casual game that wasn't likely to get the GameFAQs crowd on board with Wii U. What kind of impact SSB4 had on Wii U ownership is still unknown at this point, but it should fare better than MK8 in terms of getting GameFAQs on board. 2014 is definitely a much weaker year than 2008. Fallout 3 and MGS4 should be much stronger games than the top 2 games that SSB4 will have to face off against. 2014 is a pretty weak year since it's the first full year for PS4 and Xbox One and ownership of those consoles are pretty low, on top of having fewer games for PS3 and 360 (which do have good ownership). Out of any games that could upset SSB4 in the overall GotY poll, Dragon Age: Inquisition and Dark Souls II are the 2 games to watch here. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |
Poll updates and trend charts for yesterday's poll: https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdGxIWVUxVDdPQ212dUNiTGEtZFNETXc&gid=1 Despite this poll happening almost every year since 2008, it never occured to me that this is a poll worth tracking until I saw the GameFAQs poll graph for last year's poll and quickly noticed the huge trend shift in the morning vote. I finally tracked this poll for the first time. Last year's trends were acquired by using the vote total data that GameFAQs uses to create the poll graphs. Yesterday's poll will also be the last time that I will be tracking poll updates for the rest of this year (until the GotY polls start). "Playing online multiplayer" has a god awful board vote, but ended up with a slightly below average Power Hour. It performed best during the night vote and also the day vote, but it had a slightly below average morning vote. It also had a bad SNV as well. "Playing multiplayer with friends/family" had the most consistent trends over the course of this entire poll. "Playing a game by myself" had a strong board vote and Power Hour. It continued to remain strong during the night vote. It reached its maximum lead of 163 over "Spending time with friends or family" at 4:10 AM. After that point in time, "Spending time with friends or family" started cutting into that lead and took the lead at 7:20 AM and never looked back for the rest of this poll. "Playing a game by myself" dropped off hard during the morning vote, which was its worst time period. It did perform slightly better during the day vote. The SNV was slightly better than the day vote, but it wasn't quite as strong as the FNV. Outside of the Power Hour itself, "Playing a game by myself" had its highest percentage of 33.94% at 1:10 AM. After 1:10 AM, it lost a total of 3.80% for the rest of this poll, although the percentage remained fairly stable for the last 7 hours of this poll. "Spending time with friends or family" had the most extreme trends here. It was absolutely god awful during the board vote and Power Hour. The night vote was slightly better than the Power Hour, but it was still pretty bad. This option went absolutely berserk during the morning vote, with hours in the mid to high 40's. It dropped off somewhat during the afternoon and evening hours, but even those hours were still better than its awful night vote. Outside of the Power Hour, this option had its lowest percentage of 30.03% at 1:10 AM. After that point in time, it gained a total of 8.59% to reach its maximum percentage of 38.62% at 5:20 PM. After 5:20 PM, it lost a very small amount of percentage over the remainder of the poll. The amount of percentage that "Spending time with friends or family" gained during this poll is on par with North America's percentage gain in the continent poll. But unlike in the continent poll, "Spending time with friends or family" started off really bad at the start. North America started off strong in the continent poll and ended strong, with its worst time being the overnight hours. "Spending time online with my favorite sites" had trends that were very similar to "Playing a game by myself". Good board vote and Power Hour. It dropped off slightly during the night vote, but even that was an above average time period. It performed worst during the morning vote. The day vote was a slight improvement over the morning vote, with the SNV being slightly better than the day vote. The SNV wasn't quite as good as the FNV, though. "Still shopping, for myself or others" had a good board vote and Power Hour. Fairly average night vote. The morning vote was slightly above average. The day vote was pretty bad, but it was the SNV that was the absolute worst time period for "Still shopping, for myself or others". --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |

ownership for the 3DS at the freeze in today's poll. At this point,
3DS ownership has come very close to reaching the upper limits of its

number before it stops rising. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |

The
3DS finished yesterday's poll with 67.17%. This was only slightly
higher than the 3DS's ownership back when we had these polls during
July. It's strange that ownership didn't increase more than that
because we had SSB4 coming out on the 3DS earlier this year. I guess
the announcement of the New 3DS a few months ago has caused some
potential 3DS buyers to hold off on their purchase until the New 3DS is
out. We'll see what happens when we have another 3DS poll in July of
next year. I updated the ownership on the ownership spreadsheet just now: https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdDZFV2I1SFl4VXFDMjQ2RmJqUXJTd0E --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |

The
Vita now has an ownership of 32.68% in the most recent Vita poll.
After nearly 3 years on the market, the Vita is slightly behind the PSP
in ownership over its first 3 years on the market. PSP had 35.36%
ownership near the end of 2007. The PSP would eventually go on to reach
a maximum ownership of 53.23% on this site, so the Vita could very well
end up with around 50% ownership someday. The PS4 finished yesterday's poll with 34.99% ownership, almost an 11% increase over the previous PS4 poll. The PS4 also finished with a higher ownership than the Wii U during their first years on the market. Wii U only had 30.22% ownership after one year on the market. In
slightly under 5 hours from now, we will have our Wii U poll. This
will allow us to see what impact SSB4 had on Wii U ownership on this
site. In my opinion, there are 4 separate ownership ranges I could see
for the Wii U in tomorrow's poll. Less than 45% ownership - Completely unacceptable when your biggest system seller can't even save the Wii U. Probably dead in the water with this kind of result. 45-49% ownership - Okay, but I suppose it could be better. Wii U isn't completely finished yet and should end up with a good ownership rate on this site. 49-55% ownership - Excellent. SSB4 has definitely done its job at increasing the Wii U's ownership on this site. Over 55% ownership - Amazing. SSB4 has been a bigger success than I give it credit for. Also puts Wii U very close to the original Wii's ownership at the time Brawl was released. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |

ownership for the Xbox One in yesterday's poll. Despite Microsoft's
aggressive price cut and all of the amazing bundles during Black Friday,
GameFAQs wasn't biting on the Xbox One here. Wii U has 46.50% ownership at the freeze. The
Wii U finished with 44.51% ownership in yesterday's poll. It ended up
