Lightning Strikes posted... Well, I was talking about the North American perspective. Which is most of the site. Even in Europe I can't imagine there's much of a difference. Obviously the big difference comes from Japan but that's barely represented on GameFAQs. except on this site PS3 has a higher ownership % even in North America, so this pushes it even further |

This could be a South Park-specific boost; the kids sided with the Xbox One over Playstation 4 in a Stick of Truth-based trilogy from Season 17 in 2013. But anyways, this poll has 1163 votes at the end of the first hour. Any
chance of this poll getting less than 10000 votes is completely

Sunset Overdrive's doing a lot better than I would've predicted. Good for it. If
both versions of Smash end up in the overall GotY poll, at least one of
those versions can still advance to the 3-way poll as long as one of
them manages to finish in the top 3. It's not like both versions in the
same poll is a total death sentence to Smash's GotY chances on this
site. The most interesting thing about Smash Bros. Wii U and Smash Bros. 3DS is seeing which one actually performs better, assuming they both appear in the overall GotY poll. If the Wii U version finishes above 3DS version, we'll just blame it on rSFF giving it the edge. If Smash 3DS wins over Smash Wii U, we'll most likely blame it on the current attitude towards the Wii U. Smash Wii U's chances of winning GotY really comes down to the site's overall attitude towards the Wii U. I don't think there is any significant amount of hate for the Wii U. Overall, 2014 was a pretty Nintendo-dominated year and I don't think we'll see that accurately reflected in the voting. Smash should be the strongest game, but Mario Kart 8 might be #2, and that might not even be in the poll. |
Is
it really going to be the good stuff? The only interesting question is
which of Dragon Age Inquisition and Dark Souls II will be the distant
second. Probably Dragon Age. Smash Bros. could pull a 60% win here, so
weak is everything else. Also, here will only be around 6 participants
at this rate. Based on the poll halfway through the year, Mario Kart 8
is probably this year's #2 game, and that already got SFF'd out of

maybe the funniest game of all time, enough to compete with Conker's
Bad Fur Day. It's easy and its menu is a problem, but it's worth a

charmander6000 posted... Because it's Nintendo. It's a pretty weak year besides Smash. All of the big hyped releases ended up being underwhelming, and while the top 3 were great games, they don't have the franchise power that does so well here. Then again, the only franchises that really do well anymore here strength-wise are Zelda, Pokemon, Smash, and probably Metal Gear Solid. It's actually kind of nice to see different games like The Last of Us or Borderlands 2 doing well in GotY polls, and I will say that the fight for 2-4 will be pretty damn entertaining, with Dragon Age probably having a slight edge for #2. And you left out freaking Mario. Actually I came name a few which have definitely retained their strength, such as Kingdom Hearts, the GOOD Resident Evil games, Metroid, and Fallout. Mega Man might have actually gotten stronger since we last saw any of it's games. He was a beast last character battle. For that matter, not every major release underwhelmed. Bayonetta 2 didn't. Mario Kart 8 ended up much better than expected. Also Shadow of Mordor though it did fairly poorly in the polls for some reason. Though you could definitely change "Smash" to "Wii U". Also FNAF is definitely something people should check out, though the sequel seems like the better game, and more of one to boot. poll is currently ahead of the Best Review GotY poll by 67 votes at the
6:00 AM EST mark. This was the Best Review GotY poll: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/4965- It barely reached 10000 votes when the average vote totals during that time period (for non-GotY polls) was about 40000 votes. So breaking 10000 votes would put that poll at roughly 75% fewer votes compared to average. The Mobile GotY polls have roughly a 60% reduction in vote totals compared to average, so "Best Review" is even worse than the Mobile GotY polls when it comes to getting votes. Well, our average vote totals have definitely fallen off pretty hard over the past few months. At the start of last year, we were averaging about 32000 votes. By the end of last year, we were down to about 22800 votes on average. To clarify what exactly is meant by "frontloaded" - A poll can be considered frontloaded if it receives an unusually high number of votes in the first hour of the poll compared to its final vote total. Almost all polls receive between 9% and 11% of their total votes in the first hour, with 10% being the average. Any poll with more than 11% of their total votes in the first hour can be considered frontloaded. The opposite of this could be called "backloaded" or getting off to a "slow start" - A poll receives less than 9% of its total votes in the first hour of the poll. One thing I have been looking into is studying the vote distribution over the course of the entire poll. There are 3 different types of polls I am researching - Weekday polls during a school year, Weekday polls during the summer (no school in session), and weekend polls at any time of the year.
