Not really, the contest will suck again unless Bacon does something to majorly increase vote totals.

Higher vote totals would fix that problem, though. The pitifully low totals were the reason why even weak 4chan rallies were deciding like 70% of matches. Draven was an exceptional circumstance and even then Link got so close to beating him that another 20k "normal" votes would've sealed it comfortably.

Yeah, higher vote totals would counterbalance most rallies. Draven would've still made it to Link, most likely, but he definitely wouldn't have beaten him.

I don't see any way we can get the votals of yesteryear. GameFAQs hits now come from Google Searches and the like, not from any central location. Even if you put a message on each page about the poll, most people will not pay attention to it.

The only way to keep a Reddit rally out is to limit the polls to registered users, but then the votals would be pitiful.

766 / 13829 = ~5.54%

"lol"

Problem with 1v1s is it removes any doubt of Link winning (unless Bacon bans him). However, having a few more predictable matches is definitely preferable to the clusterf*** of random rallies.

There was a site alert message that was displayed on every page of the site for the last 4 matches of the contest (minus the bonus matches). 2 of those matches featured Draven, so I couldn't use that to estimate the banner effect. The 2 non-Draven matches that featured the site alert did not show any signs of increased vote totals (they were very similar to the 8 non-Draven matches in round 3).

I would assume the site alert had no impact on the vote totals since it was quickly put in place near the end of the contest. If we get this site alert for every match in the next contest, it could help out the vote totals.

09/07/1999: Final Fantasy VIII (USA release)
10/20/1994: Final Fantasy VI (USA release)
10/26/2004: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
11/09/2004: Halo 2 (And the Halo Collection comes out later that week!)
11/16/2004: Half-Life 2
11/17/2004: Metal Gear Solid 3
11/18/1999: Chrono Cross
11/21/1999: Pokemon Gold/Silver
11/23/2004: World of Warcraft
11/24/1994: Donkey Kong Country
12/17/2009: Final Fantasy XIII

I figure Bacon might consider these games important enough to warrant a poll so I'll probably submit a poll for each.

Keep in mind that Bacon typically bases these polls off the Japanese release date, unless it is a Western game. Western games should be based off the US release date.

Oh, I definitely would be using the first release date for all games involved, but some of those have already passed for the Japanese release.

2044 votes at the end of the first hour for today's poll. I was expecting today's poll to get awful vote totals, but this poll could possibly be in the running to finish under 20000 votes. This poll is on track to finish between 19000 and 22000 votes.

Outside of the yearly GotY polls, we haven't had a full 24 hour poll get under 20000 votes since 5/3/2002. I'm not counting polls that ran for less than 24 hours, but suffered from reduced vote totals as a result of being located below a contest match. The 5/3/2002 poll was ran in a fair environment, with no poll glitches, contest matches, or other obstacles preventing the poll from getting over 20000 votes.

Minor correction to my earlier post that I just noticed right now.

During this year so far, the following poll has come the closest to finishing under 20000 votes:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/5416

That poll had 6349 votes after 6 hours, while today's poll had 6312 votes after 6 hours. So today's poll can still reach 20000 votes.

This poll bodes very well for the future of this console generation. "None of them" has dropped about 12% since this same poll nearly 6 months ago and more than half of this site has made the transition to a next-gen console. With these results, I say that E3 2015 will definitely be better than E3 2014.

Today's poll looks even better for the future of this site jumping on board with a new generation of consoles. By the end of this year, we could theoretically be looking at 67% of this site with at least one current generation console. But in reality, that isn't going to happen because everyone who didn't vote for "None of them" is not guaranteed to buy at least one current console before the end of this year to put themselves in the same group of people who voted for the first 7 options in yesterday's poll.

We could still potentially have at least 60% of the site with one current generation console by the end of this year.

I love that the Wii U is winning this poll. I wish gamefaqs was more representative of the average gamer. Maybe the Wii U would be getting some more third party support if it was. Not that I want all the big over budgeted crap I just want it to get a ton of great niche 3rd party games like the Wii did.

Strange, today's poll has some very awful vote totals. 2177 votes at the end of the first hour, putting this poll on track to finish between 20000 and 24000 votes. Although this poll is only slightly ahead of the EA Access poll from 2 days ago (which got under 20000 votes), today's poll is not expected to finish under 20000 votes.

The only thing that can explain the extremely awful vote totals in today's poll is the fact that today's poll has the exact same options as yesterday's poll. For those who voted in yesterday's poll, they might think today's poll is a poll that they already voted in, because both yesterday and today have the exact same options. As a result, some people who voted yesterday aren't voting in today's poll.

We've seen other cases of this happening, where 2 consecutive polls have an identical set of poll options (or near identical), but the second poll ends up getting unusually low vote totals compared to what you would normally expect.

Nintendo hardware since the N64 has received low third-party support, and almost no support from the big publishers. Whatever third-party games appear on Nintendo hardware are generally niche titles. People buy Nintendo hardware for their games, unlike Sony and Microsoft.

As for today's poll right now, it will actually break 24000 votes, beating out my initial prediction of 20000 to 24000 votes. I guess today's poll got off to a slow start at the beginning of the poll. Even then, this poll still got lower than expected vote totals. If it wasn't for the poll we had yesterday, this poll could have gotten between 26000 and 29000 votes.
