Xbox 360 ownership has dropped to 51.41% in yesterday's poll. The large drop in Xbox 360 ownership lately can be blamed on the massive drop in the fat Xbox 360 in every poll after the 7/6/2011 poll. On 7/6/2011, the fat Xbox 360 had an ownership of 40.96%. In yesterday's poll, the fat Xbox 360 had 26.67% ownership. At the same time, the "I used to" option has been gaining percentage in every poll since the 12/29/2012 poll.

Most of the Xbox 360's ownership came from the original fat model, which was notorious for its awfully high failure rate from the whole RRoD thing. I heard something about the fat 360 having about a 70% chance of failing within 2 years if it's used on a regular basis. It seems like the RRoD has finally caught up to those early Xbox 360 buyers.

The past several "Got Xbox 360?" polls also suggest that there are a large number of Xbox 360 owners who have no interest in replacing their dead 360, which explains the decreasing ownership on this site. When it comes to replacing a dead 360 with a new one, it doesn't help that Microsoft hate is at an all-time high since their original Xbox days. So former 360 owners are even less likely to get a new 360.

The PS3's ownership hasn't taken a serious downturn like the Xbox 360 despite the fat PS3 having the YLoD problem, since the PS3 had a very poor ownership on this site before the slim PS3 was released. So you don't see as many people talking about the YLoD even though the YLoD was a common problem with the fat PS3.

Congratulation to raytan. Guru Champ of Reddit's Character Battle IX

The original Wii finished with 64.22% in yesterday's poll. Unlike the Xbox 360, the original Wii lost ownership for a different reason. The original Wii lost ownership from former Wii owners getting rid of their Wii as a result of the anti-Wii backlash during the last 2 years of the Wii's lifecycle (before the Wii U was released), along with some owners getting rid of their Wii so they can replace it with a Wii U instead.

Here's my predictions:

Division 1

1) League of Legends>16) Mario and Sonic @ the Olympic Games(Wii)

If League gets a rally just like 2013, it will get by Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. No rally, and this whole contest changes. I'm betting it does, and it beats Mario and Sonic.

8) Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island>9) Advance Wars

Probably like.... 62% for SMW2: Yoshi's Island? Advance Wars did pretty decent in 2010 though, 26.72% on Pokemon GSC.

12) Xenoblade Chronicles>5) Shadow of the Colossus

This is a really tough match-up! I'll just go with the upset.

4) Super Mario Galaxy> 13) Red Dead Redemption.

Nothing much to say here, Red Dead Redemption seems to have not aged well.

6) Goldeneye 007>11) Mario Party

I'm kinda nervous about this one... shooters in general did pretty bad in 2010. Mario Party could sneak this one out I feel.

3) Pokemon X&Y>14) Persona 3

It's Pokemon, but X&Y is new and untested. Probably like a 62% win or so...

7) Tales of Symphonia>10) Elder Scrolls: Morrowind

Kind of a fanboy pick, both games did well in the 2010 Games Contest.

2) Final Fantasy 6>15) Wii Sports

We'll see in this match if FF6 can really win this division.

I HAD to put Big Rigs in the bracket.

Smash 64 could easily be a monster. Smash with 77%

Probably one of the biggest blowouts of the contest. Lttp with 85%

This would really be a close one, I feel Earthbound won't hold up well to a decent N64 game like this.

Prime with like 64%

Probably a huge blowout and will scare Metroid Prime fans who pick it for the upset. Mass Effect with 76% of the vote.

Huge blowout, FFT with 75%

Man this feels like blowout division. Super Metroid with 72% of the vote.

I think Minecraft could have a big run in this contest. Gets by God of War with 67% and scares RE4

I am tracking poll updates for today's poll because the same poll from last year had some large differences between the US and other countries. I didn't track poll updates for this same poll that we had last year, as I wasn't expecting any noticeable trends.

Mario 1 vs. Mario 3 in round 3 is terrible. Complete waste of Mario 1, potentially one of the top 15 games on the site but whose "liked by all but favorite of none" status also leaves plenty of room for weird upsets. And for the sake of an obvious SFF rematch where it has no chance to even look respectable?

Notable missing games:
-Half-Life should replace Half-Life Counter-Strike.
-Dark Souls should replace Demon Souls.
-Mega Man 2 should replace Mega Man 3. Might not be a large difference in strength but the former has the legacy so it's weird seeing 3 instead. And I prefer 3!
-Devil May Cry 3 should replace Devil May Cry.
-One of FE7 or Awakening should replace FE9. The other should probably be in the bracket somewhere too.
-If you're going to have a Soul Calibur at this point (and arguably you shouldn't), why I instead of II? Granted I'm not that familiar with Soul Calibur.
-Metroid 1 might not have the nominations to make it in at this point but I'd certainly expect to see it again before Pong. Metroid 1 also has never gotten a fair shot before because division-by-era made it run into Mario/Zelda twice.
-Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door easily beat Gears of War in 2010, was also a higher seed than it, and Marcus Fenix failed to make a 243-character bracket in 2013.
-MASS EFFECT 2 WHERE?
-Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney isn't going to miss the bracket at this point. Blame board 8 if this displeases you!
-Pokemon RSE probably isn't missing the bracket with Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire coming out this year.
-Portal 2
-Sonic the Hedgehog 2
-Batman Arkham Asylum/City
-Final Fantasy XII and XIII
-Oh, and don't replace Mario Kart 64 with Star Fox 64. Former beat the latter easily in a direct match in 2009.

Hasn't made it into a contest before, probably not gonna start now unless they get a nomination rally:

Definitely the first time I've seen a single option without any votes after 10 minutes into the poll. The last several times a poll option had no votes at the freeze, it ended up receiving at least one vote before the 12:10 AM update happened.

You're on gamefaqs in 2014. Most people here don't care about online multiplayer. If people only play it occasionally at best then they're probably not gonna bother with voice chat, and many could very well not even own a headset or microphone.

"Central air conditioning" had a strong board vote and Power Hour, but it dropped off very sharply during the night vote. It came somewhat close to losing an entire hour to "Floor / ceiling fan". "Central air conditioning" lost its first update at 3:40 AM, which was a 4 vote cut by "Floor / ceiling fan". "Central air conditioning" also lost several updates to "I just have to suffer through it". Overall, "Central air conditioning" lost a total of 10 updates to "Floor / ceiling fan" and 5 updates to "I just have to suffer through it". The last time that "Central air conditioning" lost an update was at 6:55 AM. After that point in time, "Central air conditioning" never lost a single update for the rest of the poll.

Despite performing very badly with the night vote, "Floor / ceiling fan" was never really a threat to put together a consistent trend of cutting into Central air conditioning's lead here. The only thing that "Floor / ceiling fan" accomplished with the night vote was attempting to stall "Central air conditioning" until the morning vote finally kicked in. If the European/Asian vote wasn't so divided between "Floor / ceiling fan" and "I just have to suffer through it", we might have seen one of those options actually winning entire hours over "Central air conditioning".

"Central air conditioning" ended up performing worst between 3:00 AM and 7:00 AM, with the 2 worst hours happening during the dead zone. "Central air conditioning" reached its lowest percentage of 37.43% at 7:10 AM. After that point in time, it gained a total of 4.03% during the rest of the poll. After 7:00 AM, "Central air conditioning" quickly recovered from its horrible night vote. From 7:10 AM to 12:00 PM, "Central air conditioning" quickly gained 2.18% during that time before dropping off slightly after 12:00 PM. Because Europe was still awake, "Central air conditioning" had to wait until after 7:00 PM to begin heavily dominating the poll. "Central air conditioning" performed best after Europe went to sleep, with its best hours happening after 7:00 PM (plus the first hour of the poll).

"Window air conditioner" had an average board vote and Power Hour. It dropped off during the night vote, but it was a less severe drop off compared to the drop off for "Central air conditioning" during this time period. "Window air conditioner" performed slightly better when the morning vote kicked in and remained fairly consistent for the rest of the poll.

"Floor / ceiling fan" had an average board vote and Power Hour. But it did some serious work during the night vote, performing best during that time period and winning a couple of updates as well. It reached a maximum percentage of 22.93% at 6:05 AM before losing 2.33% for the rest of the poll. "Floor / ceiling fan" dropped off during the morning vote and remained fairly consistent until 7:00 PM. After 7:00 PM, it dropped off even more as a result of Europe going to sleep.

"Someplace else with cooler air" had a bad board vote and Power Hour. But outside of the first hour, it had the most consistent trends in this poll.

"I just have to suffer through it" had a terrible board vote and Power Hour. It had a very strong night vote, performing better during this time period compared to the night vote for "Floor / ceiling fan". It reached a maximum percentage of 15.31% at 7:10 AM before losing 1.74% for the rest of the poll. "I just have to suffer through it" quickly dropped off during the morning vote and remained fairly consistent until 7:00 PM. After 7:00 PM, it dropped off even more as a result of Europe going to sleep. It performed worst during the final 3 hours of the poll.

"It doesn't get hot enough" had a bad board vote and Power Hour. It performed better with the night vote, but then dropped off when the morning vote kicked in. After the drop off during the morning vote happened, it remained fairly consistent for the rest of the poll.


The extreme trends in yesterday's poll was the direct result of the US results here. "Central air conditioning" was far more popular in the US compared to every other country. Only Canada and Australia even come close to getting the same kind of percentage for "Central air conditioning" and both of those countries had around 20% less for "Central air conditioning" compared to the US percentage.

And despite Mexico's brutally high summer temperatures, "Central air conditioning" was very uncommon there, while nearly 20% of Mexicans claim that it doesn't get hot enough there. Mexico = joke country confirmed

Within the US itself, "Central air conditioning" was least common in Alaska, Hawaii, and the northern states bordering Canada. The entire New England region also preferred to use a "Window air conditioner" over "Central air conditioning". "Central air conditioning" performed best in the southeast and southwest (minus California).

In Canada, "Central air conditioning" was most common in Manitoba and Ontario, the only 2 provinces that had over 50% for "Central air conditioning". Quebec and Saskatchewan also had over 30% for "Central air conditioning". "Central air conditioning" performed worst in British Columbia, Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.

Snake makes sense, but I don't think the SSB4 boost is enough to put Mega Man over Mario. But it's hard to say since Mario's loss to Vivi was rally assisted by an unknown amount of votes.

Actually yeah, saying Mega Man would be a little too much, Samus pretty easily beat him, and it is common sense to put Mario>Samus.

Of course, with the crappy votals and the tendency of Bacon to put together formats that promote rallying, Mega Man could win, but if he can't rally past Samus, I don't think he's rallying past Mario.

That poll is likely skewed by it being held on the 3DS board. Pokemon is more or less a handheld-only series and Zelda has handheld games people actually care about. Wouldn't be surprised if Link's Awakening could double any non-port handheld Mario game.

Mega Man's probably gamefaqs' #5 guy now, after Link, Snake, Mario, and Samus. And I guess Draven if you count him. Difficult to see Cloud or Pokemon beating MM after what happened last year.

At any rate, by extending those two ad slots to the topic list in addition, we can ask for significantly more money when we sell them. The current plan is for a lot of this money to be poured directly back into the site. I'm heading out to SF next week with lofty plans to increase guide payouts, run more contests, and of course finally get the okay to hire that CM position that we've been having to keep on hold for so long.
