It
seems like the new posting engine that was released today has increased
the post limit on topics before they automatically close. Before
today, topics would close at 500 posts, but there's a topic on CE that
is over 900 posts right now. I suspect the new limit is 1000 posts, but

could definitely fill up a stats topic with 1000 posts very quickly if
we are in the middle of a contest. It wouldn't take more than 2 days to

The
early results of today's poll look even more disappointing than that
Pokemon X/Y poll, but I expect Smash Bros. 3DS ownership should be
higher than this by the end of the poll. Smash Bros. 3DS ownership will
drop overnight since Smash was never strong in Europe and Asia to begin
with. But once the morning vote gets into full swing, Smash Bros. 3DS

Smash
Bros. 3DS finished with an ownership of 24.28% on the launch day. That
doesn't count the people who voted for "Not yet, but I plan to get it
soon". Pokemon X/Y on the other hand had 30.12% ownership on the launch
day. Even though Smash Bros. 3DS had a lower ownership on the launch day compared to Pokemon X/Y, you have to consider that the upcoming Wii U version most likely had a negative impact on the number of people buying the 3DS version. If there was no Wii U version at all, the 24.28% would have been pretty disappointing. Even the night vote was slightly above average overall. It performed worst in the early morning vote and the ASV, and performed best during the late morning vote. "Less than 5 minutes" had a strong board vote and performed very well during the Power Hour and both morning votes. It performed worst during both night votes. "5-15 minutes" had a slightly above average board vote, but it ended up having a very strong Power Hour overall. When the night vote started, it began dropping off and performed worst during the last 2 hours of the night vote and the first hour of the morning vote. After the first hour of the morning vote, it began performing better again. It performed best during the ASV and SNV. "16-30 minutes" performed worst during the board vote, Power Hour, and late morning vote. It performed best during the early morning vote, ASV, and SNV. "31-60 minutes" had an extremely awful board vote and Power Hour. But after the Power Hour ended, it had fairly consistent trends for the rest of the poll. "Over an hour" performed worst during the board vote and Power Hour. It had a slightly below average night vote. It performed best during the early morning vote, but dropped off during the late morning vote for another below average time period. It performed slightly above average during the ASV and then dropped off again during the SNV. "I don't have one" had a very strong board vote and a fairly good Power Hour. It continued to remain strong during the night vote. "I don't have one" was completely fueled by the Power Hour and night vote. When the morning vote started, it crashed and burned quite badly for the rest of the poll. At one point, "I don't have one" had a maximum percentage of 14.51% at 5:30 AM and lost a total of 3.47% over the remainder of the poll. It was bleeding percentage for most of the poll. If this poll had happened before 2008, I would expect "I don't have one" to have completely different trends, with the night vote and late morning vote being the worst time periods, while the ASV is the best time period for it. But this is 2014 GameFAQs and the demographics are much different as of right now. Today's
poll is almost certainly going to finish with under 20000 votes today,
based only on the vote totals after 10 minutes. We've already had 2
non-GotY polls this year finish with under 20000 votes. In the future, I
believe we will see non-GotY polls finish with less than 20000 votes

...I think I'd probably explode if there was an announcement on January 1st. Twice. Allen said something about the community manager position being filled being vital for a contest, I believe. And we have that. So who knows, maybe we will indeed get the 2015 contest. The big question is what exactly it's going to be. I would not rule out the possibility that he announces a contest before the end of the year, with the contest starting in early 2015. No, I am not going to track today's poll. As for yesterday's poll, the trends were very disappointing. I assumed yesterday's poll would have more interesting trends than what I actually witnessed yesterday, because large families are more common in some cultures around the world, while small families are also common in some cultures as well. Also, there was a possibility that older voters might have different voting preferences than younger voters. Taking all of that into consideration, and that was my motivation for tracking poll trends yesterday.
