Aw, I see. Pardon me if I sound like I'm trying to probe you guys too much, but when did you guys pick up on the concept of "transitivity" between contests? I get the feeling that that used to dominate contest discussion, no? --- Play Pac-Man World 2. |
I
want Characters Contest BUT with all characters that have appeared in
Video games. Batman, Superman, Naruto, Chuck Norris, everyone. That
would be awesome. Also who punches other people for video games? Come on now people! --- Why do we exist? What happens when we stop existing? |

me if I sound like I'm trying to probe you guys too much, but when did
you guys pick up on the concept of "transitivity" between contests? After 2003 when creativename used the x-stats to dominate the oracle. I noticed some very interesting Geolocation results in this poll: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/5510 China: Less than 10 miles (16km) away 12.5% Between 11 and 25 miles (40km) 4.17% Between 26 and 100 miles (160km) 0% Between 101 and 500 miles (800km) 0% Between 501 and 1500 miles (2400km) 0% Between 1501 and 3000 miles (4800km) 8.33% More than 3000 miles (4800km) away 75% Taiwan: Less than 10 miles (16km) away 21.43% Between 11 and 25 miles (40km) 0% Between 26 and 100 miles (160km) 0% Between 101 and 500 miles (800km) 0% Between 501 and 1500 miles (2400km) 7.14% Between 1501 and 3000 miles (4800km) 0% More than 3000 miles (4800km) away 71.43% Hong Kong: Less than 10 miles (16km) away 27.78% Between 11 and 25 miles (40km) 16.67% Between 26 and 100 miles (160km) 5.56% Between 101 and 500 miles (800km) 0% Between 501 and 1500 miles (2400km) 0% Between 1501 and 3000 miles (4800km) 5.56% More than 3000 miles (4800km) away 44.44% South Korea: Less than 10 miles (16km) away 15.38% Between 11 and 25 miles (40km) 7.69% Between 26 and 100 miles (160km) 3.85% Between 101 and 500 miles (800km) 0% Between 501 and 1500 miles (2400km) 0% Between 1501 and 3000 miles (4800km) 0% More than 3000 miles (4800km) away 73.08% Japan: Less than 10 miles (16km) away 0.95% Between 11 and 25 miles (40km) 1.9% Between 26 and 100 miles (160km) 0.95% Between 101 and 500 miles (800km) 2.86% Between 501 and 1500 miles (2400km) 1.9% Between 1501 and 3000 miles (4800km) 4.76% More than 3000 miles (4800km) away 86.67% The results for China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Japan strongly suggest that most of the voters from those countries aren't native born citizens of those countries. Before that poll, we already knew that very few native born Koreans and Japanese actually come to GameFAQs. I had no idea that China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong also has very few native born people voting in our polls. For reference, here were the vote totals for those 5 countries in that poll: China - 24 Taiwan - 14 Hong Kong - 18 South Korea - 26 Japan - 105 --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |
Poll updates and trend charts for last week's sporting event poll: https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdHphdU01ZXd5VHJyZi0xMW1HRnhVV2c&gid=1 2014 FIFA World Cup started off the poll with a terrible board vote and Power Hour. It slowly gained more strength as we headed deeper into the night vote. It performed best from 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM. 2014 FIFA World Cup reached its maximum percentage of 23.98% at 9:10 AM. After that point in time, it lost a total of 1.15%, which was a less extreme drop than I had expected. After 8:00 AM, 2014 FIFA World Cup had a very sharp drop off as a result of the US voters waking up. During the day, it performed worst from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Then after 2:00 PM, it started performing better again (and even managed to gain some percentage), probably as a result of another surge of Europeans voting in the poll before they go to sleep. After 5:00 PM, 2014 FIFA World Cup started dropping off again as the Europeans start going to sleep. 2014 FIFA World Cup performed very badly during the final 4 hours of the poll, with the final hour of the poll being its worst hour. NBA Playoffs and Stanley Cup Playoffs both had very similar trends - Bad board vote, before recovering from the board vote to finish with a good Power Hour. Bad night vote and early morning vote. Good day vote and SNV. The first 5 minutes of this poll was the only time that Stanley Cup Playoffs would have the lead over NBA Playoffs. Despite the similar trends here, Stanley Cup Playoffs held up much better during the night vote than NBA Playoffs. This is because Hockey is far less popular in the US compared to Canada, and Hockey gets most of its strength from Canada. Even though Stanley Cup Playoffs had 2 hours that were worse than the worst hour for NBA Playoffs, you have to consider that Stanley Cup Playoffs had a less extreme drop off from the Power Hour to the night vote. Stanley Cup Playoffs also managed to recover during the morning vote much quicker than NBA Playoffs. NBA Playoffs reached its lowest percentage of 9.89% at 10:35 AM, where as Stanley Cup Playoffs reached its lowest percentage of 8.46% at 7:45 AM. It took until the 12:00-1:00 PM hour for NBA Playoffs to start winning entire hours over Stanley Cup Playoffs. But after that happened, NBA Playoffs was mostly in control during the second half of this poll. Stanley Cup Playoffs also had its best hour during the final hour of the poll, which was even better than the best hour for NBA Playoffs. Overall, NBA Playoffs won 16 out of the 24 hours over Stanley Cup Playoffs. Indianapolis 500, U.S. Open, Wimbledon, and Another big event all had fairly stable trends over the course of this poll. However, Indianapolis 500 and Another big event had a good board vote and Power Hour. U.S. Open and Wimbledon had a bad board vote and Power Hour. "No sports for me" performed best during the board vote and Power Hour. We also discovered another thing that early voters hate besides GTA, God of War, and FFVII. That's right, early voters actually hate sports. "No sports for me" had a massive 4.17% drop on the next update after the freeze happened, which is on par with L-Block's second update drop during Chief/Dante/L-Block/Snake. "No sports for me" continued to perform very well overnight, but then it began to drop off when the US started waking up. After 7:00 AM, "No sports for me" never had a single update above 44.50%. It performed worst during the last 8 hours of the poll, with 3 hours below 40%. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |

MOBA
games also got anti-voted during the board vote. So there's another
thing that early voters also hate, along with GTA, Watch Dogs, God of
War, FFVII, WoW, and sports. The last option had 55.56% at the freeze and 50.04% at the end of the Power Hour. It continued to lose some more percentage during the night vote. The last option has also managed to gain over 1% since reaching its lowest percentage of 48.32% at 5:12 AM. Early on, the last option was gaining percentage near the end of the night vote because of the results in the UK. But now that the morning vote is already in progress for the US, the last option has managed to gain over 1% in the US. This poll has also shown that the Geolocation results are very inconsistent for Europe. In some countries, MOBA games are performing very well there, while they are sucking badly in other countries. On average, MOBA games seem to be performing worse in Europe than the US or Canada. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |
Now that the MOBA game poll has come to an end, I can now look at the Geolocation trends in more detail. Dota 2 was more popular than League of Legends in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia, which makes Dota 2 the more preferred MOBA game in Asia. Everywhere else in the world, League is the preferred MOBA game. As mentioned in my previous post, this poll has very inconsistent results across Europe. MOBA games were last popular in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and Belgium. They were most popular in Portugal, and performed better than average in most of the other European countries. Overall, MOBA games seem to be less popular in Europe than the US or Canada. Although Draven performed best in Europe in all of his matches, we already know that those results in Europe do not represent the actual results of our normal European voters. A quick took at the Teemo match would show that Teemo's results in Europe were very similar to the worldwide results. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |
so what happens with LoL vs FFVII vs GoW vs GTA vs Watch Dogs |
I'm
surprised we didn't get a "Got Watch Dogs?" poll today considering that
is it the biggest game release since GTA V last year. I'd be
interested in seeing the Watch Dogs board vote in action for a second
time. I have no idea who wins the board vote in "LoL vs FFVII vs GoW vs GTA vs Watch Dogs". Although we should throw World of Warcraft into the mix as well, since it is also a heavily anti-voted game. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |

It
looks like tomorrow's poll will not be "Got Mario Kart 8?". Tomorrow's
poll will be "Have you ever played a real pinball machine?". I'm a bit disappointed we're not getting "Got Mario Kart 8?", because it is one of 2 high profile games released during this month and neither of them got a "Got Game?" poll. It would also help us get a better read on the potential impact of Wii U's ownership on GameFAQs, before the next batch of "Got Console?" polls in early July. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |

-LusterSoldier- posted... Average vote totals for each month this year: Now that we have gone through another full month, our average vote totals for May were 28632. So our average vote totals just dropped by another 1100 over the course of last month. To be fair, we had a terrible line-up of polls during May that really hurt our average vote totals for May. We had only 8 polls with more than 30000 votes, with our best poll just barely finishing above 33000 votes. At least April had the age poll (over 40000 votes) to help out the average vote totals for that month. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |

Sport games are the only time I prefer online over playing by myself, it's FIFA mostly for me that I play online. Single-Player games are the best, when a dev start focusing on multiplayer the game loses a lot of quality. Just look at ME2 and ME3. --- ... |
Safer_777 posted... Man most people here play by themselves eh? If you compared to this poll to the same poll we had in 2011, there has been an increase in the number of people who prefer to play games by themselves. Today's poll result is another example of how our higher average age is affecting poll results. Because GameFAQs users are about 2 1/2 years older today than they were when we had this poll in 2011, they have less time to play video games because of college, working, or raising a family (for those who have kids). That means whenever they do have time for playing games, they would rather play single-player games instead of multiplayer games. Having less time to play games will hurt multiplayer gaming far more than single-player gaming. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |
On the subject of vote totals: I actually found a website that gets more votes in their polls than the vote totals we used to get during the GameFAQs golden age (2007 to 2009). On the website ESPN, they run polls on their homepage that can easily get 200000 votes in less than 24 hours. This is actually quite impressive when you consider the poll is located near the bottom of the page where it has less visibility. The trends on the poll were a lot different than a normal GameFAQs poll, with the ESPN voter base being almost exclusively North American (less than 10% of the votes come from outside North America), while GameFAQs is around 75% North America. Unlike GameFAQs, the ESPN website does not have any consistent schedule for when each poll begins and ends. They could put up a new poll at any time of the day. Here was hourly vote distribution for an ESPN poll that started around 11:23 PM EST on June 1st: Time | Votes 24:00 | 12298 1:00 | 12902 2:00 | 8059 3:00 | 4894 4:00 | 3141 5:00 | 2534 6:00 | 3146 7:00 | 5506 8:00 | 8938 9:00 | 12094 10:00 | 14402 11:00 | 15026 12:00 | 16199 13:00 | 17732 14:00 | 16649 15:00 | 14654 16:00 | 5396 <------- The poll was removed from the ESPN homepage at 3:15 PM EST 17:00 | 2535 18:00 | 2046 The poll had 171528 votes at 3:15 PM EST. Even after the poll was removed from the ESPN homepage, you could still vote in the poll though. It simply wasn't listed on the homepage, so the vote totals dropped off immediately after it got removed from the homepage. There is a place on the ESPN website where you can still vote on recently created polls, but of course it has far less exposure than being on the homepage. If a site like ESPN can draw in these kind of vote totals, imagine what GameFAQs could do if Allen would take website design more seriously and did more to increase traffic to the homepage. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as raytan7585, Guru Champ! |
