I have a very good explanation for Bravely Default's trends in today's poll. As we already know, Bravely Default was released in Europe last year back in December. As a result of Europe getting the game before North America, a lot of voters in Europe aren't voting for Bravely Default today since they got the game more than a month ago. You can tell from the map that Bravely Default is doing very terrible across Europe. France and Italy are the only 2 major countries in Europe with more than 20% for Bravely Default.

Looking at the percentage graph for this poll, Bravely Default's percentage started going down after 2:00 AM and kept going down until it began to stabilize around 10:00 AM.

If we get a Games Contest this year, I am very excited to see the prospect of a roided up FFX because of the release of FFX HD. If FFX puts on a steroid fueled run in this year's Games Contest, it means very good news for the possibility of FFVII HD elevating FFVII over OoT.

But no, the gap between FFX and FFVII is too great to make up the difference with FFX HD.

I really doubt FFVII can pass OoT even with an HD remake
besides we know that's not happening

Even if Square-Enix announced a remake, considering their recent track record and their comments about how hard an FFVII remake would be to make, it'd probably be ~5 years before the game actually came out.

Which makes it's victory yesterday even better

At this point I doubt a remake would put FFVII above OOT. FFVII has fallen too far for the remake to bridge the gap. Maybe it could if the remake was really big, but the problem is that it's hard to see any JRPG be really big in today's market. And FFVII does not translate to the modern setting very well.

there is still a very big market for JRPGs, many JRPG fans out there, the problem is we aren't getting many good ones. FFX HD has so far sold 450k in Japan, outselling Lightning returns. And that is just an HD remaster of the game not a full remake. A FF7 remake would be huge.

And honestly, I can't really remember anything from that contest other than Draven's run. I had think for a while to remember what Crono did. The whole contest had abysmal, abysmal, votals except for Draven's matches.

Link/Draven/Shepard was one of the most fun matches ever, and has to go really high on the all-time best matches list. Like.....a strong contender for the very best match ever. With enough outrage and controversy to equal Mario/Crono II.

I suppose it's really this board's fault that you all caved and voted for the boring Link/Snake match instead of Link/Draven 1v1.

I'd say Chrono Cross at 43 is a big suspect. Vice City at 35th is also possible though, with 5 notable GTA games splitting votes, lower regard for GTA in general, and more games in existence pushing it down.

Link had no chance and that bonus poll would have galvanised reddit's trolls. It's the prime excuse for them to say "look, they can't accept that Link lost!" and since that's what it looks like from an outside perspective their non-troll contingent would have been as anti-b8 as ever. End result being their most concentrated and effective rallying effort to date.

Oh and the world championships were still ongoing.

Raytan did pretty well.

Link had a chance. He wins the 3-way match without downtime, and with no Shepard in there, he stands to gain another 10,000 or so votes. 1v1 matches and bonus polls are always more popular, so he might stand to gain another 10,000 from increased GameFAQs votals. Draven would need to rally an additional 20,000 votes from what he did in the 3-way.

That may sound easy given what we saw from Ultimate Draven, but remember Draven was only getting 60% of the rallied votes against Link. So to close a 20,000 gap, he really needs to rally an additional 100,000 votes. That's doubling the amount of rallied votes and highly unlikely to happen. Draven's best shot would be to get substantially more than 60% of the rallied votes this time around- he did that against Snake, because reddit was super angry that we were apparently rigging their voting processes and a mod made a topic. Hard to say what would have happened the next day.

Link was lucky he even got as close as he did since reddit wasn't going full-throttle. But while Draven's rallied support varied drastically across different matches, in the end he always got what he needed to win. If the LoL subreddit mods care enough to heavily promote the match, Link loses no matter what. It's not like they were consistent in their policies during the contest (admittedly "Mrs. Bacon" didn't help there) so why expect them to be so during a Link/Draven 1-on-1? Can't say it really that it bugs me that we didn't get to see whether or not a single LoL subreddit mod decided they REALLY wanted Draven to win - and that's all it would have taken - and allowed multiple threads and a message at the top and a pinned/stickied/whatever thread and etc.

Might be misremembering but I think the 60-40% in favor of Draven that Bacon cited was about first-time visitors to the site. If so, considering that Link had some rallying going on too and was therefore drawing first-time visitors of his own, that the strongest Draven we saw was actually from the round before that (so presumably a lot of the voters only there for Draven may have voted for him before), and that normal non-rally first-time visitors to the site probably went for Link 80-20 or better, it's a very different thing than saying Link was actually drawing votes at a 2:3 ratio from Draven's own rallies.

Link was getting some rallies too, but most of it was reddit. When the rally topic fell off the front page of the LOL reddit on the morning of the Link/Draven match, Link's vote intake also fell off- it was about 65/35 Draven IIRC. That's consistent with Bacon's 60/40 figure.

Draven only sustained that level of intake against Snake for 2 hours or so. The LOL Reddit only has so many voters.

Notice that even with a mod stickying the rally thread and calling out Gamefaqs as the enemy, Draven still only beat Snake by 24k votes. Draven still LOST to Snake + Samus.

On another note, reading that reddit thread was hilarious. They were so, so, angry about Link winning every year on a site they weren't a part of. Some of them thought Link or Snake won every year (even though Snake has never won a contest here). One post said that we held contests every month, and Link or Snake always won.

That's too depressing. I'd rather Draven win. I think I might have actually voted for Draven against Mewtwo (not sure if I stuck with Sephiroth or not). I know I voted for Draven against Snake to protect Link's turf.
