They both got murdered by Skyrim in the Game of the Generation poll though, and Twilight Princess also lost to Mass Effect 2. Considering how unreliable polls often are though, I wouldn't be surprised if Brawl and Twilight Princess actually took it to Skyrim in an actual games contest. Also I feel as if at least the latter is more well-liked now than it was a few years ago, so who knows? --- Play Pac-Man World 2. |
Brawl, maybe. TP, doubt it. Excluding League of Legends, I think Skyrim would be a big contender for Game of the Generation. X-factors back it up too. Being on the Wii will hurt Brawl more today than 2010; it can't afford to lose much strength when Skyrim outperformed it against LoZ:SS in 2011/2012. Throw in SSB4 replacing Brawl soon, GameFAQs shifting to WRPGs in recent years, how huge Skyrim's been even off GameFAQs...this is probably Skyrim's title to lose. I could be wrong of course and it might just be a stupidly good sign for Galaxy. Did Galaxy seriously do 10% better against TP in that poll than it did in Game of the Decade? Oh and just so you guys want to know, TP > Galaxy actually isn't just this site's bias towards Zelda. TP is ranked 3 spots higher on unikgamer as well (#44 vs. #47, then again seeing how Majora's Mask and Wind Waker are ahead of the likes of Mario 3, Final Fantasy VI, and Super Metroid there it might just be bias towards the series as well). --- Play Pac-Man World 2. |

(Off the top of my head, the only ones who looked good were the Mass Effect crew) I can't explain their weakness well, but it's worth noting how many more Western characters we saw appear in the last contest than usual...largely because of the contest-format, but still! Our past three GotY-winners have been Borderlands 2, Skyrim, and Mass Effect 2...all WRPGs to some degree. Between those three games and 2009's Modern Warfare 2, Western games have won every GotY-award since Brawl won in 2008. Well, it's true we saw more Western characters than usual, but at the same time, most of them got embarrassed (including all of the Borderlands reps, Dragonborn, Corvo, and JC Denton); despite Mass Effect in general doing well, Shepard's performances in round 1 and round 2 also leave me scratching my head. On the flip-side, western games looked beastly in the last couple game contests. She didn't need Epona to beat Ike this year (probably didn't need Ike to beat Epona, either). Modern characters don't all suck, nostalgia just makes us appreciate older characters more. That and, I can't help but think that the lack of competition has disproportionately benefited characters from older titles. There's so much more choice now -- so many more major releases each year. The market has diversified tremendously. Characters like Link and Cloud benefit from the fact that their marquee titles were practically the only options on the market in the '90s. All my RPG fanatic friends played FFVII in '97; now in 2013, some prefer the Tales series while others are into Fire Emblem but there's also Ni No Kuni and Xenoblade and Skyrim and Mass Effect and Persona and Etrian Odyssey and plenty of Indie titles... --- The Legend of Snake: http://tinyurl.com/3cal86z The LoS Instruction Manual: http://tinyurl.com/3jlax8h |

Having
just recently purchased a 3DS and Fire Emblem: Awakening I'm genuinely
shocked Tharja's one of the most popular characters from the game. She
isn't just an ancillary character, she's also incredibly annoying. I feel Fire Emblem characters would be Pokemon-light where many of its characters are around the same strength. the subject of yesterday's poll, I decided to see what would happen to
yesterday's results if you inserted "None of them" into the poll and
gave it 15000 votes. We end up with this instead: Just a PlayStation 4 20.53% 7513 Just a Wii U 19.72% 7215 Just an Xbox One 4.48% 1639 PlayStation 4 and Wii U 8.08% 2955 PlayStation 4 and Xbox One 1.76% 644 Wii U and Xbox One 1.35% 493 All three 3.10% 1134 None of them 40.99% 15000 TOTAL VOTES 36593 That's closer to what I expect if Bacon remembered to include "None of them".
