Fei's high fodder at best and I wouldn't take him over Ramza, Laharl, Lloyd, Kratos Aurion, Neku, or Catherine. 23% on Sonic isn't good. Like, 2006 Sonic was almost certainly stronger than current Sonic and did this:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/2523

Come to think of it: Fei vs. Serge, who wins?

And also, if I very frequently get lost in the Tanker in MGS2, should I bother playing ahead? Or should I download video walkthroughs and play the game simultaneously or something else?

Not really, once you get to the second act, It become less confusing... There's a map and the action is more linear

Xenogears' playrate increased to 34.2%, from 31.68% in February. I checked its release date and the February poll was on its Japanese release date, yesterday's poll being it's NA release date.

Metal Gear Solid 1's playrate is currently under 62%. That's way down from 2005, which I guess isn't too surprising. Today is indeed it's NA release date.

Other 1998 games whose release date is coming up include Half-Life 1 and Ocarina of Time. Resident Evil 2, Banjo-Kazooie, Starcraft, and Pokemon RBY and Final Fantasy Tactics in the U.S. were also 1998 releases but we're past their release dates.

SBAllen to do a GotG 4-way contest confirmed
#160 | charmander6000 | Posted 10/21/2013 7:55:10 AM | message detail
Wouldn't mind a GotG though certain things need to be answered first, like when is the PC cutoff (probably 2004 or 2005) and what to do with ports and remakes.

I can see one of two things happening, either SBAllen lets everything in, as long as it was released on a current gen console or the game must be released before or during the release on other consoles (so Twilight Princess would be fine while Chrono Trigger and Resident Evil 4 would not).

Game of the Generation wouldn't exclude League of Legends and the contest idea Bacon had in mind was supposed to be less prone to outside rallies, so it can't be that.

Unless he makes the contest into registered users only then any contest will be as prone to rallying.

Did anyone bother to make a set of adjusted stats for the last contest? I just finished one.

-Set Mario equal to Rivalry Rumble Mario/Bowser and then put Samus equal to Mario.
-Set Cloud equal to Rivalry Rumble Cloud/Sephiroth and then got Sephiroth's value based on the difference in strength between Cloud and Sephiroth in 2010.
-Cloud is a joker so Frog's value is hilarious and I didn't adjust him because it would put him below Lugia, whom I have nothing to adjust with. I gave Magus his 2010 number against current Alucard. Result: Frog gets 65% on Magus.
-Gave Leon his 2010 Ryu/Leon number.
-Gave Wesker his 2010 number against Ken, except against Chun-Li this time.
-Set Mewtwo, Charizard, Squirtle, and Pikachu equal to the Rivalry Rumble Pokemon Trainers. Also Crono since Crono/Pikachu looked as if it would be close in a fair 1-on-1.
-Several values extrapolated through Pokemon look absurd high and I let them be. Particularly Ramza, Phoenix Wright, and Lloyd Irving. I set Vincent equal to Phoenix.
-MMX was obtained by the difference between Mario/MM 2010 and Mario/MMX 2013.
-Mario, Sonic, and Luigi all had SFF matches against Link in 2010. I assumed Mario/Sonic and Mario/Luigi are indirectly the same whether they get SFFed by Link or not.
-Gave Kirby and Ganondorf their 2010 numbers against Sonic.
-Gave Ness his 2010 number on Geno.
-Set Ezio equal to Altair and then used him to get Auron (and Zelda based on Zelda/Ezio 2010). Accounted for Ocelot benefiting from the night match and Auron/Roxas LFF by also setting him equal to the Assassins.
-Accounted for Vivi's rallying by giving him 0% of Ganondorf's votes.
-Didn't bother adjusting Squall. Whatever. Gave Yoshi his 2010 number against Missingno. since I didn't want to work with anything older than Winter 2010.
-Raiden benefited from the night match and the vast majority of Yoshi votes would go to Link so he got stuck with the number he pulled outright.
-Hayabusa got a day match against 2 Final Fantasy characters and looked too high so I gave him his 2010 value against Master Chief.
-Gave Yuna her 2010 number against Zack then used that to get a number for Tifa. Also set Rikku equal to Yuna.
-Accounted for Kratos Aurion/Boko LFF by giving the former his Rivalry Rumble number against Cloud/Sephiroth based on lack of alternatives.
-Dragonborn wouldn't have beaten Yuna 1-on-1 so I set him equal to Master Chief.
-Used Sora/Midna 2010 to get a Sora value, with which I then used Sora/Bowser to get a Bowser value.
-Gave Meta-Knight his 2010 number on Luigi, which still likely underrates him.
-Gave Protoman his 2010 number against Solid Snake and adjusted the Ike/Epona sixpack. Also gave Fox his 2010 number against Snake and set Fox = Red = Blue. Nothing to adjust Wolf with.
-Jill and Kratos were extremely low thanks to Mega Man nuking them, so I used Jill's 2010 number against Samus.
-Gave Lightning her 2010 number against Sonic and used that to give Donkey Kong a number. Gave Falco his 2010 number against Mario.
-Set Tharja = Lucina and adjusted Shepard's ninepack.
-Set Chie = Yu and adjusted Jak.
-Didn't take notes while making the stats so there are likely other adjustments I didn't mention.

There are too many assumptions in adjusting the 2013 X-Stats to ever make them remotely accurate.

Take Phoenix Wright over Yoshi if you really want, I'm not about to go down that path.

You should never take the x-stats too seriously, that was mostly done for fun. And I specifically called out Phoenix and Yoshi's values as problematic.

And SBD above Caim is just normal lol x-stats, not something specific to this format! Though if you want to go that route, Caim should be below Chester because the poll he won was for last place!

Nice work, Red. How to measure Link, and Snake relative to him, has an effect on the entire bracket. That's definitely the trickiest part. I think I'd rather use Snake as the constant since 2010, though, rather than Link. Stupid Draven, ruining everything!

The main thing I would change is Mewtwo = Pikachu= Charizard. They were not equal. Charizard or Zelda would not beat Sonic. L-Block is too low, I think. (or Auron is too high) And Red should be adjusted from Samus.

Call me Axem.

Zelda probably wouldn't beat Sonic but she's only barely ahead of him in the stats and I think she would do better than the 45.39% that Kirby managed in 2010. I'd probably take Charizard > Sonic but I'm a believer in Zelda > Pokemon rSFF.

Pokemon is going to cause problems in the stats no matter what I give it. They got rallied a lot and looked inconsistent round to round even trying to control for that. They had insane accomplishments this contest but several characters extrapolated through them have ridiculously high values, and Mewtwo is probably the biggest offender there thanks to Phoenix. I don't think they're far apart indirectly. The value I gave them is basically "screw it, this looks about right."

Auron being too high would imply either Altair > Ezio or that Auron overperformed against Ezio. L-block failed to replicate its rally after beating Auron (though people tried!) and I don't think much of its potential 1-on-1 strength. While L-block's probably not transitive, its placement suggests it does notably better against Isaac (who we had a very clean read on) than it managed in 2010 so I don't think it's all that low.

I don't think Red deserves to be much higher. Pokemon benefited a lot for from the format and I feel if Red were a near-elite, he should have been able to take advantage of the Mega Man/Samus split to at least contend for second.

I had to make so many adjustments because of all the SFF/LFF/LPF/rallies/shenanigans in this contest. Consider than Draven alone already makes it impossible to compare unadjusted characters that are extrapolated through different rounds of Draven.

I think the Rivalry Rumble numbers worked pretty well. Pokemon wasn't on par with Cloud either this contest or that one but was able to attract significant rally support to beat him regardless. Considering how drastically FFVII dropped from 2008 to 2010 and then FFXIII disappointed people and Rivalry Rumble had a drastic drop in votals, most of the damage was probably already done by RR.

edit: Misread the question. Lazy so not changing the below.

I think PS4 would still win handily since the site's switched to PS3 > 360 the past several years and there's not really anything the One offers that the PS4 doesn't besides Kinect, while the PS4 will have better exclusives.

Sony would've probably won the next gen even if Microsoft didn't bungle their PR so badly.

Fewer people are willing to be terrible scum if they have a real name attached to them. It's why ESPN comments have changed from awful to "almost tolerable" since they required Facebook accounts to comment.

It's also why Google keeps encouraging Youtubers to use their real name, but until they make it mandatory, it's not going to work.

North America finishes the first hour with 86.71%. That's a pretty good improvement over the 2012 poll where it had only 85.31% at the end of the first hour. Though it still doesn't compare to the 87.70% it had after the first hour of the 2010 poll.

#187 | -LusterSoldier- | Posted 10/26/2013 12:01:53 AM | message detail
Oh, Europe will definitely win some updates over the next 3 to 4 hours.

Europe shouldn't win any updates until at least 4:30 AM EST at the earliest. It's a shame this poll didn't happen tomorrow because most of Europe has to turn their clocks back one hour because of DST, which would definitely f*** up the trends.

7 vote gain that time. Europe is going really close to North America. That was also the first update above 40% for Europe.

And right on cue, Europe has won an update at 4:30 AM EST. 6 vote cut.

Well but this is also making this poll a 25 hours poll so it's nice!
The trends are pretty funny I must admit

The poll on November 3rd will be a 25 hour poll. This is just a normal 24 hour poll.

Since most of Europe has to turn their clocks back one hour tomorrow, that could affect Europe's trends if this poll happened tomorrow instead of today.

Every time that poll happens the people that come from North America are decreasing and the people from Europe are increasing.Nice.

Hmm im not sure what you mean
Im from Europe and we are going to change the clock 3-4 hours from now (unless my country is weird and decided to do it one day before the rest of europe)

By the time that happens, it will be October 27th where you live. I have no idea if this is going to affect Europe's trends near the end of the poll.

Damn, this poll won't even reach 40000 votes. Vote totals have been sucking really badly in recent times. It's even worse than it was prior to the start of the last contest.

Trend charts and poll updates for yesterday's continent poll:

https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AgBWiYjlMLwYdHNOblBTNGg3aXZrSGFZLU10OHB6SlE&gid=2

You guys already know the trends already, so I won't bother explaining it again. Instead, I'll explain the differences in the trends between this poll and the 2012 continent poll. For comparison, the trends for yesterday's continent poll and the one from 2012:

http://i.imgur.com/Avtx2L1.png

One of the big things to note is that Europe was doing better at the start of yesterday's poll, compared to the 2012 poll. Europe's first 5 hours were better than the 2012 poll. In yesterday's poll, North America did better in the first hour than the first hour of the 2012 poll. But after the first hour, North America dropped off quicker compared to the 2012 poll. In fact, North America almost lost the 4:00-5:00 AM hour to Europe. In the 2012 poll, North America won the 4:00-5:00 AM hour by slightly over 200 votes.

Compared to the 2012 poll, North America was consistently doing better from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM in yesterday's poll. As for Europe, it was doing worse during the day vote compared to the 2012 poll, but it still finished with a higher percentage because it was performing better during its worst time period.

In this poll, Europe started dropping off after 7:00 PM instead of 6:00 PM. In previous continent polls, Europe would start collapsing after 6:00 PM. As I said yesterday about most of Europe having to change their clocks back one hour, I believe this played a factor in Europe's trends near the end of this poll and that may be why Europe started collapsing after 7:00 PM. It also seems to explain why Europe did better near the end of this poll compared to the 2012 poll.

North America looked absolutely terrible near the end of this poll. Just one hour over 80%? In the 2012 poll, North America got over 80% for the last 4 hours of the poll including one hour over 87%. North America had a much weaker SNV in yesterday's poll compared to the 2012 poll. The last hour of yesterday's poll was barely above the 1:00-2:00 AM hour.

Asia somehow performed better in the last hour of the poll than the first 3 hours of the poll, which is very unusual. Oceania did better in the last 4 hours of the poll compared to the first hour of the poll.

Today's results aren't that bad I think.1 out of 4 people has played either FF XI or FF XIV.

Eh, it's pretty damn bad. When Xenogears has about double your playrate, I think we can pretty much know you suck.

Makes me wonder if they would lose to stuff like Dirge of Cerberus or FFTA2. Probably not Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, although that would be really funny.
