SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated.

Yeah, I'd go with RSE => DPP. FRLG and HGSS might be messing with these results a bit and BW is probably LFFing DPP a good amount, but it's difficult to see DPP turning this around.

RSE was actually ahead of DPP in the Game of the Decade x-stats. (Also why doesn't ngamer's site have Game of the Decade x-stats up?) And DPP > RSE by a noticable amount would have implied a close match between RSE and Metroid Fusion - something that never really sounded quite right.

Golden Sun or RSE for strongest GBA game? OR MINISH CAP?

More evidence supporting RSE > DPP. Unless Turtwig or Piplup pull an upset, we should probably assume that to be the case from here on.

Speaking of which. Other than Gen 4/5/6 starters ending up in various orders at the bottom of each poll, is anyone expecting a newer starter to beat an older one?

I certainly would have figured Mudkip would beat Totodile but Torchic getting pasted this badly is giving me doubts.

Considering the age of our userbase, it makes sense that more people have played the older games than the newer ones, and thus would prefer the older Pokemon.

Grass easily has the least popular starters to begin with though. Bulbasaur is likely to dominate for that reason.

I doubt Bulbasaur actually is significantly weaker than Squirtle. Charizard/Squirtle/Pikachu all looked very close in strength. Bulbasaur is another starter, undoubtedly a major RBY Pokemon, and pokemon fans have proven themselves to be drones.

While Pokemon's on the mind...who's taking anything besides RBY as our #2 game? We've just seen Mewtwo > Sephiroth + Vincent and Squirtle > Cloud in three-ways, plus Trainers > Cloud/Sephiroth in the Rivalry Rumble. We also never got a pure read on RBY from 2009; all we know is that it beat LoZ:MM twice and later took LoZ:OoT and SSBM for FFX to beat it. FF7 is still a beast, but this isn't the Clinkeroth-era anymore.

LoZ:LttP and SM64 may be contenders too, but they don't seem to have risen like Pokemon in recent years...and after this last contest, it's REALLY hard to bet against RBY.

Too much hope is the opposite of despair... An overpowering love may consume you in the end.

Probably, yeah. Pokerallies would likely make up for any remaining strength difference. Not saying it's guaranteed to happen, but you're stuck in 2009 if you think it couldn't happen.

And Pokemon RBY > Any individual Pokemon by more than FFVII > Cloud.

Final Fantasy VII is weaker than it has ever been, and Red/Blue/Yellow is far stronger than ever, which is very, very bad for FFVII given that FFVII/RBY looked debatable (but leaning RBY) 3 years ago.

Raytan did pretty well.

If reddit rallying were somehow universally disallowed RBY would be at a phenomenal disadvantage. Almost every big Pokemon win this year wouldn't have happened or been much closer if not for reddit rallying; the site is a major source of its intrinsic strength.

Well, Bulbasaur has shown itself to be weaker than Squirtle and Charmander based on this poll. The real surprise is Snivy beating Turtwig. Also, Treecko is beating Chikorita, which gives me hope that Mudkip should beat Totodile tomorrow.
