Link still has some anti-votes dogging him, obviously. But it's not the same as it used to be. Draven got a huge
monkey off his back. Imagine if the rage was still so pent up that
Snake got the bandwagon juice that fueled him in the 2008 Finals. With the increase in Snake's natural strength and our low votals Link would probably be dead within the first hour. --- Welcome to the League of Stickies. |

I agree this Link is much stronger than 2013 base Link (or 2010 Link).

Not
really gonna attribute that to anti-voting. I thought Snake would be in
the lead for the first hour, even, all on the back of his extra support
from Draven. I guess if you wanna call that anti-voting, but not buying
that's what it was. Link still gets anti-votes, but that wasn't driving

The usual "Link Always Wins" hatred and b****ing and moaning that typically accompanies him winning his last match in a contest? Remorse for wishing he'd get beat for a change then seeing their wish mightily and forcefully granted. Some of the anti-voters are no doubt perfectly happy with the outcome, others are probably thinking "Man, I just wanted Snake, or Mario, or Samus, or Mega Man (etc), to win for once, they deserve it." Once the trend of predictable outcomes became obvious, like around CB3, they should have bit the bullet and declared winners retired. It would have kept the contest fresh and past champions would simply be permanently enshrined rather than become targets for massive anti-voting. |

Well
that's a huge bandwagon. This one was tiny and Link is going to get
this much against him every time in the finals unless his opponent is

I
think bandwagoning can be reasonably assumed as a part of Snake's
intrinsic strength now. Cloud does better against Snake in Day 5 of a

Maybe the votals tell the story of the strangeness of the BR: I think the votals from day 2 was probably from some voters thinking the new match was one that they already voted in. The top 3 options from Day 1 and Day 2 were exactly the same, so that might have confused some voters into thinking Day 2 was a match they already voted in. We can clearly see what happens when you run the same poll 2 days in a row: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/3001 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/3002 Despite adding in another option to the second poll, a lot of voters probably noticed the poll question remained exactly the same after the first poll should have ended, so some of the voters did not realize a new poll was put up. Well
that makes sense. Link fans are the best when it comes to political
strategy, so it makes sense they know to vote again and again for Link.

My
Snake theory is simply that, the majority of the Noble Nine are
declining while he's gaining strength, by sheer virtue of Kojima
actually feeding Metal Gear Solid on the major consoles of the era for hardcore gamers (X360 / PS3 / XBone / PS4.) Everyone else is either not getting any new support at all (Crono, Cloud), getting terrible games (Sonic), or getting phenomenal games but on a system hardcore gamers aren't really playing or buzzing about (Link, Mario). So it's entirely possible Snake's gaining traction as years pass simply by staying relevant with major releases. (Even if his 'dad' Big Boss is doing most the heavy lifting for him.) Plus, Snake has, well, character. The more games featuring him on the more major consoles, the more exposure lots of gamers get to someone with a personality and a backstory. Snake has a reputation for being hard as heck to anti-vote for a reason. It's a hard personality to react negatively towards. He's a badass masculine superspy, but Kojima was also smart enough to present Snake as the underdog in his own series in a way that simultaneously ensures he's surprisingly easy to relate to. That being said, I totally expect a boost for all Nintendo characters -- and not Snake this time -- around the timeframe the next Smash Brothers hits. Given Mega Man's involvement there's a legit chance the Noble Nine could swap their pedestals again. MGSV should keep Snake relevant, at least, but I imagine Mega Man > Cloud in a 1 v 1 would be the obvious expected outcome as the new Smash Brothers hits. He's always going to stand in Cloud's shadow in these contests. Even a well-received FFVII remake wouldn't be enough to give Sephiroth a chance in the finals. And given FFVII's decline in recent contests there might actually be an argument that Sephy's now what Snake once was in 2002 -- the weakest link of the Noble Nine. Samus is third right now after Link and Snake, in all likelihood, but any Smash Brothers related boost would help Link just as much as it'd help her. Samus is still a bit of a question mark - it's not a given that she's #3. Letting Mega Man get 46.5% on her could be entirely a result of Mega's bandwagon and Smash boost. Or it could indicate some Samus weakness. I'd really like to see Samus/Mario again regardless, even if I'm fairly confident in Mario there. Or probably better, feed Mario to Snake after a 12 hour Mario/Crono night match and Samus to Snake after a 24 hour Samus/Cloud match. --- Welcome to the League of Stickies. |

I come here and there are people once again creating and attempting to manipulate votes, so we get to work and start cleaning up. There were multiple attempts here to post, get to the front page, and then remove the post in order to mess with the system, so we just removed them too. The fact this mod still hasn't figured out he was duped despite JemJam confirming it shows what a pathetic fool he truly is. I have little doubt that Allen is telling the truth that he never got a reply on who the "verified staff member" was supposed to be. Samus/MM/Red Votals from 8 to 9 PM: 1481 Total votes at 9 PM: 48427 Percentage: 3.06% Link/Snake votals from 8 to 9 PM: 1846 Total votes at 9 PM: 52526 Percentage: 3.51% About 16% higher. Or about 230 extra votes in the last hour. Hahahaha. They are still adding rallied votes to this match. This topic has been up for 9 hours, so it's probably inflated the votals quite a bit already and the actual true baseline is lower. Let's say 300 extra votes in the last hour. By that analysis, they may have rallied close to 3000 votes today. The Reddit mod says the first contact was with the same account so that reveals the first contact with the "verified staff member" was also with SBAllen's account. One way things work out is if someone broke into SBAllen's Reddit account to make first contact with Reddit mods. --- No amount of rallying would let me beat raytan7585. Quite possible Vincent drained Sephiroth just as much as Mario drained Link despite the lower percentage for Square in that match, because FFVII is a less broad fanbase. We can make sense Link's boosting between R1 and R3 of the BR, of course. Link fans are happy about his victores and thus are more likely to vote again. I figure Cloud lost percentage between R2 and R3 because Sephiroth and Snake were competing with each other, and Cloud voters happily switched over to Sephiroth. A big chunk of the voters were aware of how the BR worked, so yeah, this could be ascribed the Battle Royale's "unique properties", as you said! Of course, that would makes me wonder if FF7 vs. OoT 2009 should have been slightly closer than it was (since the prior day featureed FF7/FFX/OoT/LttP). Doesn't seem like it, but who knows? Or it could indicate some Samus weakness. Mega Man put up a better fight in 2007 than in this contest! Sure, maybe there's a difference between Yoshi and Red being in the poll, but Nintendo leeching via Pokemon is not immaterial. And we're talking a Mega Man who dominated the first two rounds and also beat Zero by more than usual (who himself looked solid this year). The only matches suggesting Samus' weakness are the final match (absolutely pitiful), and maybe her score on Tifa.... but Tifa looked beastly in Round 1, and is evidently stronger than Auron based on L-Block. And I'll add that Auron looked strong himself to me, not any weaker than past contests. Snake >> Samus yesterday could partly be attributed to the Draven rally, I figure? I'm sure this was discussed... I missed much of the discussion. I wouldn't take Samus over Mario, though, still. Mario beat up Crono and MMX by enough that I think he's retained most of his strength. We haven't had a good read on Crono in a long time.... we indeed need a 1v1 contest again. Edit: Okay, perhaps Red's 42% on Sonic could be construed as weakness on Samus, as well. --- "Ah, a party!
