You guys are giving up too easily!

I was here trying to keep morale up for Link at this point and it was like a 5k lead then!

Now, I know Snake is no Link, but you've got to believe!

Allen mentioned that in Draven/Link, votes from reddit were only 3:2 in favor of Draven.

Reddit's support was only 3 to 2 favoring Draven and that was still enough for Draven to *win?*
...Given Link's support on GameFAQs that basically means Reddit must've vastly outnumbered Normal GameFAQs traffic.
...To such an extent that it's like, why even bother running the contest here, just run it directly on Reddit and call it Reddit's contest.

I guess I'm beginning to understand where all that aggravation against Reddit is coming from.

If we are being frank, without the downtime, Link would have barely beaten Draven that night. It's just a matter of bad luck that Link Lost.

Given how awesome Chie is, I'm glad to hear she had the likely champ on the ropes for a while there.

Who the heck are these Redditors rallying Draven, though? You'd think even gamers who liked him and liked playing multiplayer League of Legends matches would have sufficient exposure to the medium to respect the giants in the Noble Nine who've predated him and had a much larger impact on the industry. Like, I was a huge into Starcraft's casual multiplayer scene for a while, and I followed a few tournaments back in the day, but that didn't mean I'd have supported Jim Raynor against everyone else.

I guess the homogeneity is more surprising than anything else. Most times you try rallying on a website, you're taking a risk because most gamers like many videogames, so, for example, going to a Metal Gear Solid website and shouting "Vote for Snake!" might only bring a 65-35 ratio of Snake supporters, with a minority of MGS fans showing up and saying "Actually, I've played Metroid too and I like Samus better." You'd think *some* LoL fans would be like "Jeez, a relatively recent new character with little characterization against a gaming icon who defined the Playstation era for more than a decade."

Or, well, you'd think some LoL fans actually played Metal Gear Solid.
...Or Metroid, for that matter.

The LoL fanbase are teenage non-gamers who play one game and one game only. Maybe Starcraft, Dota, Diablo or some MMOs but certainly not the kind of games represented in the battle. Any exposure they have to other games are purely through twitch or "Let's Plays". More of an e-sports crowd than actual gamers so it's not surprising.

Well, I imagine you're supporting Draven for a reason. Given he's only been in one game, is it that he's been given incredible characterization? Amazing character development? Or is League of Legends really the 'greatest game ever made' in the eyes of its fans, and that's what's propelling Draven here?

Nobody wins until the closing bell rings. Period. Megaman proved it, Link came close, and Mario/Crono 2 is still a testament to the impact the final update of a match can have. You never call a debated match early!

It's the fact that he (quickly) turned into a meme that LoL players could use easily, much like "The cake is a lie" turned into a huge meme (only this one is game-specific). His distinctive facial features (specifically that glorious facial hair and grin) make it easy to "Draven-ify" other champions or characters, his quotes are spammable/repeatable, and his general attitude is easy to latch onto.

Taking a second to take the neutral perspective (and again, this isn't a Draven cheer), it's because it's a game with a very attractive, colorful graphical style, with an enormous variety of characters (in a genre that is best described as "fighting game meets strategy", with all the attachment to characters and dedication that implies), that is easy to learn and very hard to master, and which most notably was one of the very first free to play games that didn't hide a single power option behind a paywall. All of that, combined with an incredibly friendly company (can you imagine being able to hop on Konami's forum and just have a chat with David Hayter or Hideo Kojima? You can do that with Riot Games, all the way up to the president of the company!) has resulted in LoL's players being incredibly attached and loyal to their game, and it has grown into the biggest game in the world with 32 million accounts active per month, and five million active players at any given time.

I was referring more to the "LoL kiddies only play one game lel". Do you actually think that many people all have never played a videogame in their lives except LoL? Do you think we don't know who Samus or Link are, and that's why we voted Draven?

Draven winning is simply a more humorous outcome, especially to see how little people actually know about LoL in some of these topics.

No. Sonic/Tidus 2002 was only like 12 hours. Plus many matches in Spring 2004 had hours of downtime because of major site restructuring.

That's silly logic. The diehard fans would come back, but I'm sure some casuals -- or those who just wanted to access GameFAQs and would've voted before accessing a FAQ for the game they're playing -- might have not voted.

You can't guarantee that 100% of the people who tried to access the site during that downtime actually came back. And in a close match it only takes a handful of no-shows to swing it.
