It is a cohesive unit. It's called "the Nintendo fanbase". The WHOLE Nintendo fanbase, spanning from SMB1 to SSBB, is extremely extremely broad. And Samus pulls in a lot of votes from outside the Nintendo fanbase even. Her fanbase is far broader than Pokemon could ever hope of being. Again, I am puzzled as to how this idea of Pokemon being a particularly broad fanbase started. --- 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2010, 2011 10 championships is not enough. Looking
at geolocation, it seems to me Squirtle is beating Pikachu in most
first world countries, where it became cool to hate pokemon at some
point and the anime in particularly and Pikachu hate still lingers a
little bit there even among the pokemon fanbase, while Pikachu's

Because Game Boy (Color/Advance) was the only viable option for a handheld for an entire decade, and even after Sony released a competitor it was always way behind? Seriously, this was the same reasoning that produced the "Pokémon is more independent than other Nintendo" theory. Even if you were a Sony loyalist (or later, a Microsoft loyalist, but Microsoft showed up a generation later and Game Boy's monopoly started with the demise of the Game Gear, which was SNES/Genesis era), if you wanted a handheld, you pretty much had to bite the bullet and go Nintendo. I mean, I know you guys don't believe in people who only get one console per generation, but it's not always economically feasible to be "fair and balanced"! --- RIP GrapefruitKing and Emporer_Kazbar.
