Everyone has the right to do those things but that doesn't mean everyone should. Contests are about dominance. We don't ask that the all-stars of a sport play down to the level of the scrubbier professional competition. Why ask for moderate rallies? (But then, I'll admit I'm weird like that and like seeing those who are the very best show off just how good they are and have only close losses to challengers. The trolls we saw post-Draven/Link wanted the board to be full of Link fanboys (when it really isn't) because it made their trolling more fun and entertaining and enjoyable. They aren't the problem - they are as deluded as they are spiteful and nothing was ever going to change their attitude. But mob mentality is a powerful thing and playing into that stereotype even remotely - which is exactly what these deceitful plots are doing - just convinces more and more people that we're "in the wrong". And the more people who believe that Draven's cause is the right one, the more people who will rally for him. they're going to be mad at us for.....making more rally topics m'kay When the motives are shown to be underhanded, as they are by discussing it here, yes. Spamming the forum with rally topics while not actually discussing it here would just lead to confusion, before eventually someone would catch on. real issue was Allen's "don't like it? rally your own personal army"
comment. Tolerating rallying as an uncontrollable element of these
contests is one thing but to actively encourage is inviting the kind of
chaos we've been seeing. That comment laid out the marker that these
tournaments are dead for any sort of consistency or merit for analysis. I don't know why anyone expected fair handling of the Link/Draven situation when the legitimately stronger character winning these polls was quite clearly not on his agenda. |

Somebody asks "what was with all those annoying rally topics?" someone answers "it was board 8's idea to flood the subreddit with topics to get any rally topic deleted". Suddenly it's not "f*** this stupid contest get off my subreddit jeez". It becomes "wow board 8 f***ing sucks what a sad bunch of losers let's crush these assclowns." More trolls. More hostility. I really think Board 8's "influence" over this is overstated. Regardless of whatever this board does, we apparently have a "reputation" and that's going to override whatever the facts show or suggest. They already have, honestly. And if anyone wants to pin the blame on the board for something we're not doing all they need to do is make a post here and quote it and all of a sudden the entire board is seen as guilty. As I've said before, I would write him off and ignore him if he was just a Strahax. But he's motivated by something more than just trolling. And as a result, the community's response to him should be more severe than the mass-ignore Strahax generally merits. He might be trolling now and then, but he is not purely and totally a troll. His personality, his actions, everything he has done merits far more abuse than "the silent treatment".
