While some victories such as Squirtle>Cloud and Charizard>Zelda can be blamed on SSF, this match proves that Pokemon are terribly strong this year on their own. I think the most important reason for this is actually Pokemon's rally potential. Pokemon is still the second most popular franchise in the world and the Pokemon hatedom seems to have died down a bit. I do think they're stronger than before, and they are indeed benefiting from rallies. This match certainly shows that they have some legit strength, but it's also important to recognize that SFF won them a lot to this point. Pikachu over Crono, Charizard over Zelda, Mewtwo over Sonic, and Squirtle over Cloud. |

Jill just got stronger between 2007 and 2008, and may very well have been the stronger character to begin with. Also, she stood out like nuts in that match, being the only cutesy character against three VERY masculine guys. And for all you know, Kratos might have SFFd Ocelot, though then again if you held that poll today I don't even think Kratos gets eliminated. As for how Jill got stronger, I have three explanations: 1) The Umbrella Chronicles 2) Resident Evil 5 hype 3) PS1 nostalgia character boost, same as Crash Bandicoot and Spyro (though why any MGS/FF/Castlevania character doesn't benefit is a mystery - only thing I can think of is Castlevania wasn't mainstream enough and the other two were either already very popular or lacked the same casual appeal) --- Currently Playing - Super Metroid, MGS4, Brawl, FFVII, Wind Waker, RE4, SOTC |

over this result, but they want Squirtle to do well and Pikachu winning

Like I said yesterday, there was some pretty clear indication that Squirtle's voting trends were not legit against Cloud. The exact reverse was shown in that match. When to rallying topic was deleted, Squirtle did much worse. When it went back up, Squirtle went back to normal. Vote stuffing should not depend on whether a rally topic exists or not. It wasn't the consistent trends that were worrisome moreso than the giant spikes Squirtle got every time Cloud looked like he was cutting a little bit. Cloud would take 3 or 4 updates in a row and bring down the lead by maybe 50, and then in 1 or 2 updates Squirtle would take it all back and then just hold steady? Squirtle's
biggest spikes usually corresponded to either the /v/ thread being
bumped or a more major source of traffic (e.g. the 4chan reddit, the
occasional shortlived /b/ thread). There was probably some cheating -
people tend to try real hard to cheat during close matches - but the
bulk of the match can be explained by other factors. Squirtle bandwagon,
Leon draining Cloud a bit, ridiculously biased pictures, and the

Anyone
who goes through the Pokemon will be difficult to get a statistical
read on. There's arguably a chasm of difference between a rallied and an
