LeonhartFour posted... Fayt_Esteed posted...I expected Blue to do better than this, though.... True. lightning-02 posted... Too much paranoia about rallying. There are no effective rallies in this match, has anyone even looked at the vote totals? Nobody cares about pokemon outside the first and last hour of the poll. The Squirtle rally being for a pokemon was coincidental because he was Cloud's opponent, not because he's a pokemon. Nobody does persistent rallying for Pokemon through an entire day, it doesn't happen. Someone has been rallying for Pikachu all match long, if you can't see that you are blind. Well it could also be stuffing, who knows. --- ... |
Fayt_Esteed posted... LeonhartFour posted...Fayt_Esteed posted...I expected Blue to do better than this, though.... Good. Seriously i can understand the nostalgia and fanbase behind Red. he has similarities to Link, and other mutes...and is playable in a few games. Blue? just an average side character. The Red/Charizard will be interesting. If there is a pokemon character that deserves to win it all..it's Red. --- http://s19.postimage.org/aosug5mrn/Persona4.png |

then explain the awful votals SFF matches have ALWAYS produced awful votals, it's like you are all new to these things. If there was no rallying the votals would be even worse. --- ... |
abdou posted... then explain the awful votals Mario/Vivi votals looked pretty good, that was an SFF match with rallying. There's nothing of significance happening in this match with rallying, I'm absolutely certain. |

Nobody does persistent rallying for Pokemon through an entire day, it doesn't happen. This is an SFF match. It should naturally be significantly lower than Snake/GlaDOS/Kefka without rallies. I have a well-typed argument in favor of L-Block, which I will post on /v/ about 20 to 30 minutes before the match starts. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
Don't bother with a well-typed argument in favor of L-Block. Just use some of Djoker's posts about how much he hates L-Block. That'll be more effective than anything. --- http://gifsoup.com/view4/2077316/thane-dance-o.gif http://gifsoup.com/view1/1334641/pop-that-collar-o.gif |
Mario/Vivi/Ganondorf
isn't even remotely comparable. Of course the rallying isn't on the
scale that Vivi got, but that doesn't preclude significant rallying. --- Welcome to the League of Downtime. |
oh
where? Show me this rally that's been up for hours. It must be the
lowest voted match of the round if this is the votals with a rally. No idea where, I never rally for anything but I am sure there are quite few sites where pokemon could be rallied. Also like I said it could be vote stuffing, it;s not like SBAllen is keeping an eye on it lol But Pikachu's sudden gains whenever Sora starts cutting is not normal trends. --- ... |

Cool, they don't need convincing though they're already very supportive of it and made a big push for L-Block last round. Just make sure when the match starts to have a good L-Block picture, a direct link to the poll and keep it bumped. I'll get involved when I have time around halfway through the poll tomorrow. |
abdou posted... oh where? Show me this rally that's been up for hours. It must be the lowest voted match of the round if this is the votals with a rally. Variance, you can't just suddenly claim rallying because of momentum shifting in a close match like this. The votals are low and there's nothing of note on either /v/ or r/pokemon. There's nothing unusual happening. |
Now Pikachu's gained 100 votes in the last 45 minutes. --- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/Sensui22/1248835958206.png |
Why is Pikachu gaining now Can someone rally against him pleaseeee? Give Squirtle a chance at least Oh and i'll say again- the only rally is a topic in /vp/ that was posted when the match started It got 66 comments...in 19 hours This thing is usually on the 8th page and getting bumped before being purged This is not effective There are no hidden rally topic in Serebii or whatever |
Piikachu's
gains have a lot to do with Sora falling off he map compared to when he
was making big strides. It doesn't really look like a rally. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
Whoa, lightning, you understand variance and trends better than most people who have followed these things for years. I think if you look at the last 40 minutes vs. the 40 minutes before that of Pikachu's intake, we're close to a statistically significant difference there though. It's a small rally. It hasn't been going on all day. But Sora might be ahead by now if not for the rallying in the last hour and the rallying last night in the first couple of hours. --- 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2010, 2011 10 championships is not enough. There's been reddit rallies for Sora today. They haven't done jack. --- Welcome to the League of Downtime. |
red sox 777 posted... Whoa, lightning, you understand variance and trends better than most people who have followed these things for years. I have followed these things for years, I've been here since 2002. Listen to yourself preach statistical significance in the same breath as entertaining phantom rallies you or nobody else have any evidence towards. The day vote is decreasing and Sora is dropping off on intake, it's perfectly normal trends. |
Luster don't post a big well-typed-up post. That will show you care. You can't care. They'll antivote him if you care. Whoa, lightning, you understand variance and trends better than most people who have followed these things for years. Because he's Smurf >_> --- XIII_rocks, the cream of XIII fanboyism. |

Like I said, the best way to drum up support for L-Block is to make them think GameFAQs doesn't want it to win. So do like someone did for that Pikachu rally with yoblazer's post last night and use a few anti-Block posts around here. --- http://i.imgur.com/M7vKB.gif |
But
Pikachu's intake increased, not decreased. That's the important thing.
You don't need to see the source of a rally- it need not be a site.
Could be people telling their facebook friends. If you don't believe in this 50-100 vote rally, fine. It's not that clear and is so small anyway. --- 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2010, 2011 10 championships is not enough. ZeldaFAQs thirsts for more. |
Pikachu's vote intake has barely gone up, not his fault Sora just dropped |
such as that update there, where Pikachu dropped slightly but Sora's vote intake got cut in half |
1337gamerpr0 posted... Pikachu's vote intake has barely gone up, not his fault Sora just dropped Well, everyone's intake should be dropping. We're moving into the night vote, after all. --- Welcome to the League of Downtime. |
17:35 to 18:35 (hour before Pikachu's vote intake spiked) Pikachu: 547 (45.09%) Sora: 666 (54.91%) 18:35 to 19:35 Pikachu: 666 (54.32%) Sora: 560 (45.68%) That's a 9% swing from hour to hour, with Pikachu defying the normal trend of vote intake dropping. The votals being so low makes the variance much more wild, but even so, if that's not rallying it's one heck of a unusual random swing. --- 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2010, 2011 10 championships is not enough. pjbasis posted... Well since trends don't mean anything cuts and gains lose their significance Probably the worst thing about them. Matches definitely aren't as interesting to follow knowing there's no natural up and down characters go through. It's all just whenever someone makes a rally. --- tune in tokyo 142.94 |
This
is also why Pokemon's not terribly exciting to watch. And hopefully we
move past every match being the upset of the century when they do win. --- tune in tokyo 142.94 |

like the fact that it's a feedback loop! Diminishing interest >
lower votals > rallies are even *more* effective > diminishing

Match CXV: (1) Samus Aran vs. (8) L-Block vs. (7) Tifa Lockheart Previous Round Samus Aran 61.85% Knuckles the Echidna 21.33% Catherine 16.82% L-Block 40.99% Auron 37.01% Ezio Auditore da Firenze 22.00% Tifa Lockheart 44.56% Dragonborn 30.43% Yuna 25.00% Analysis I am not sure why some people are giving Tifa a legit chance against Samus, she may have gotten close in 2006, but does anyone actually think that match was anywhere legit. Also while she has looked decent for a Final Fantasy VII character it is likely Tifa is even weaker than what we saw in 2006. With L-Block emerging it is quite likely Tifa finishes in last. While all the other joke characters were flopping L-Block decided to become a contender again. While it was rallied last round even without a rally L-Block was staying quite close with Auron. Assuming L-Block is non-linear in strength it has a really good chance at winning this match and it could even make a run for the finals. Samus looked quite impressive against Knuckles, but considering Knuckles is weaker than what many of us thought and the possibility of SFF the performance could be a bit deceiving. Using Catherine gives us a more normal Samus or even one that underperformed a bit, but you could blame that on LFF. With the way the contests have been going L-Block should be able to win, but maybe stubbornly I am sticking with Samus. Samus is quite the step up from Auron and while L-Block is not linear it did take quite the rally for it to win over Auron. charmander6000s Bracket: Samus Aran > Auron and Tifa Lockheart charmander6000s Prediction: Samus Aran 39.45%, L-Block 35.33%, Tifa Lockheart 25.22% --- BOP Results: http://www.freewebs.com/charmander6000/CB9%20BOP.xls Points: 137/207 Today's Pick: Sora |
