At this point I think I'd only pick Draven, Link, and maybe Snake/Mario to beat a rallied pokemon. They are just getting stupid strong.

Link is the only thing off limit for Pokemon.

We've seen Pokemon disappoint multiple times against Zelda. Mewtwo struggling with Midna, Mewtwo easily losing to Ganondorf, Charizard needing massive rallies to beat Zelda.

And now Mewtwo has boosted to beat the likes of Vincent and Sonic! And Charizard was simply overrated, as every opponent he faced besides L-Block has bombed horribly.

Anyway, even if Squirtle wins this, I'm still rooting for a Pikachu win, if only because it gets me one step closer to winning the Guru, which would be wonderful and perhaps even more hilarious than Turtle winning.

I would say Squirtle beating Cloud would be the most absurd thing that pokemon has ever done in this contest.

Squirtle beating Cloud here means Pokemon is holding firm to a bit more than the 40% it stubbornly grabs onto like it has all contest. This performance is par for the course for Pokemon.

Pikachu and Blue aren't going to fold to one another. One has being Pikachu, and the other has being GARY OAK. If either one of them beats Sora, then that means that whichever one pulls it off absolutely slaughters Sora 1v1 even before rallies, which is much harder for me to imagine than 'a super-rally can drag Squirtle to 45% on Cloud'.

I think the Pikachu/Blue split is really dangerous for Pokemon. Pikachu is more popular but also more hated, so Blue isn't going to let himself get SFFed. If the ralliers are smart and all back Blue, then he probably wins, but I'm sure some of them will rally for Pikachu thinking he has a better shot.

Nah. Cloud/Sora was probably around a doubling indirectly in 2010 and both have dropped huge amounts. Pikachu can take that one and it won't even be impressive.

The only reason I'm even sticking around is to try and get in the top 10 in the Expert bracket and win some money. This hasn't been a GameFAQs contest, it's been a reddit/4chan contest.

At this point I'm leaning no. Whichever thing that was put in Wolf's place would hurt Fox just as badly, because it'd pull way more votes overall. Sure they'd come at Fox's expense slightly less, but Blue's voters are a lot more loyal.

Rallying is what makes it interesting though. You get a character no one expects to beat characters everyone thought was making it to say the finals.

I can understand how Link fans felt when Link lost to a joke rallied character. The same happens here for Cloud... At least Sephiroth advanced! And he will be lucky to break 15%! Yeah...

At this point it's pretty much useless to compare 1v1's. Is Squirtle beating Cloud? Only if you think Leon's votes get divvied up 50-50. Pokémon have strengthened this contest but good luck determining exactly how much. 3-ways is tailor-made for them because they always seem to have less overlap, unless the match is Pokémon / Nintendo / Other, like MissingNo's first match.

Both of the top two juggernauts losing to two rallied first-timers from massively popular franchises. All we need is a DDoS for this match.

Inactive may mean it will eventually be purged - which will matter. But until then, most 4chan regulars use the Catalog to browse now. If you browse with the Catalog, you'll see that thread, and from there can simply click through and vote.

Activity is not a measure of a rally's effectiveness. Most of the activity in a rally thread is by the exact same person.

You can always sign that petition to get more of the site involved with the polls. That being said, I doubt that brings up our votals much. I think our overall site traffic is simply down too much from peak.

Short of a hard solution like "registered users only" I think the only real way to do it would be if votals recovered in a big way. And that's more, "rallying would become a lot harder so it probably just stops happening as often once they see they can't swing matches that aren't already close"
