Of course their power hour is worse. I think creative is trying to say that their night vote is comparatively worse than their day vote(total votes being cast or rallies aside) and used that as to why Sephiroth obviously had the advantage here

Cloud's day vote was also markedly better than his night vote against Solid Snake last contest. And Snake is actually quite good with the day vote nowadays. It was the total vote intake that killed him more than the trends.

Ah, that match. Funny thing is that Cloud brought Snake's lead down really fast early on but then once they got tied it went back and forth for the whole night.

I guess the 'it's 50-50' factor has a lot to do with it.

Not that I would consider Snake a day character.

If creative was referring to the 1 AM- 4 AM block, he may be right. FFVII starts off so bad that it doesn't really get above its daytime percentages for vote intake until around 4 AM.

And even if you're talking about the whole night, remember, 4-8 is only 1/3 of the total votes from 12-8, and a fair part of that 4-8 period even is the first stirrings of the morning vote. Thus, FFVII's overall percentage at 8 AM is usually still lower than its final percentage. Before 2009, this was virtually universally true. In the FFVII/Zelda matches, FFVII always finished the poll at its highest percentage of the day- higher than its morning local peak. Since 2009, the morning peak has become the overall peak against some entrants like Zelda.

I think Cloud was also doing better on average with the morning vote against Samus than he did in the night vote. I'll have to check. Samus has very even trends but is very slightly day oriented.

Seph is really picking up the pace now. If it were 2006, I'd say it was because the day vote was fading, but the day vote nowadays starts later and ends later.

Cloud was even with Samus by the end of the power hour or so, IIRC. And then they went 50/50 for the next 2 hours. Cloud wasn't able to rise until past 3 AM.

Yeah, Cloud did better than the early night vote with the morning, but he shredded her during the dead zone. Samus rallies may have just given up the ghost by then - or, perhaps more likely, Cloud's advantage was enough to cancel whatever was going on at a time when our matches were still capable of clearing 125,000+ votes with minimal rallying.

I wouldn't hold to my hypothesis if our total votes were ever rehabilitated. But with our pitifully low votals, outside rallying becomes that much more of a factor.

This is still a terrible performance for Seph- just not as bad as some of his earlier matches this year. 57% on Big Boss- let's say 58% by the end of the match- is pretty terrible. Less than what Mario got.

No doubt, but Big Boss should be stronger this year than he was in 2010, for a lot of reasons. I was disappointed in BB earlier, but once I realized I'd been overestimating Mario lots of things fall into place, since Naked Snake has invariably been stuck behind Mario in every contest appearance since his first.

Also, for the record, Seph's percentage in each timeframe has gone up as the match has progressed. Kirby was closer to Big Boss during the DSV than he was to Seph.

Mario > Cloud seems like a pipe dream right now, though. I guess we'll still have to see from Cloud, but under normal circumstances Mario looks to be only worth 53-55% on Crono 1v1. That doesn't speak to beating even today's Cloud with much confidence.

CJayC confirmed 637 votes, but assumed more, I think it was us that assumed that many votes. I personally have 1100 base off the 3k vote period, assuming Melee and Starcraft went even during that period.

Those 20 minutes drove the same fear as Draven's R2 "rallying." The fear that GameFAQs votes were going to be completely overwhelmed by outside forces (Korean TV ads were speculated). Only CJayC responded very quickly and shut it down.

Last contest, 2010, Sephiroth was still above Mario. If we hadn't seen any matches this year, then today would be disappointing.

Besides, it's not just that he's below Mario's mark. He's well below Mario's mark of 63%.

Sephiroth is very likely above Mario in 2010. This is arguably the first year since 2002 where he hasn't been.

Mario/Crono/X was the last straw in Mario masking his weakness. Even if you give X the full benefit of being a true Nintendo character (meaning a 70/30 overlap favoritism to Mario), Mario scores 57% in a day match against Crono. That is assuredly less than 55% in a 24 hour match considering how CT tanks in the day.

Need I remind people that Crono has universally been considered the weakest member of the Noble Nine for years?

Edit: Meanwhile, my more conservative adjustments put Mario at just shy of 55% on Crono in a day match, and close to 53% in a 24 hour setting.

By people looking at their own expectations and not the matches. Confirmation bias. People expect Crono to fall and see it when it's not there. Just like they expect Mario to be strong, so they see it via years of poor showings hidden through SFF and LFF.

I don't think that Mario is above Sephiroth; Snake isn't above Cloud either. I would imagine the numbers would be relatively similar if we did a 1v1 poll of Seph vs. Snake and Snake vs. Cloud as they were the last time those three faced off.

This year Cloud should take it all if the rallies really have died down, but who knows...people love gimmicks.

Crono has very good arguments over both Sephiroth and Sonic if my adjustments hold even remotely. My vibe is currently something like Link > Snake > Samus > Cloud > Mario > Mega Man > Crono > Sephiroth > Sonic.

...I honestly don't like putting Mega Man under Mario indirectly, but I'm gonna stick with it for now.
