In
the end, it's just a contest. I'm disappointed Link lost and that LoL
will dominate, but there are matches in the contests for everyone. It's
silly to let any part of it put you down. |

What other sites rallied for whom? A FEW HOURS PRIOR TO THE MATCH: /r/leagueoflegends begins their rally. POWER HOUR: Draven rally already has a ton of upvotes. He's winning right out of the gate... but Link ends up standing up to him better than most expected. OVERNIGHT: Draven takes advantage of Link's weakened overnight vote. Gets a hefty lead. MORNING: Link starts making some of the most massive cuts in site history. The main rally thread on /r/leagueoflegends is removed. The man in green is looking poised to swing a huge comeback. AROUND 11:30 A.M.: GameFAQs mysteriously goes down for quite some time; approximately 90 minutes. As this is happening during the peak of Link's comeback, it reeks of DDoS to many. AROUND 1:00 P.M.: Site is back up. All holy hell breaks loose. Many begin calling for Draven's head, believing this is grounds for disqualification. Draven supporters from the rally spam outdated terms like "butthurt" and "QQ moar" as if it was their God-given duty. Others whine about the overreactions on both sides, blissfully unaware that their whining is somehow even more obnoxious than anyone else's. 2:07 P.M.: SBAllen releases an official statement: basically, that everything is likely peachy keen, though he cannot entirely rule out the possibility of a DDoS. REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON: Board 8 continues to be a whirlwind of hilarity, venom and possibly real tears. The board is split: many are vehemently dissing Allen, while many others are defending him. Throughout this time, the Link and Draven rallies kind of take turns shining. FINAL FEW HOURS: The golden stuff. SephirothG gets Trent Barretta to rally on Twitter for Link. The board looks for every possible rally source they can think of. In the final moments of desperation, the B8 regulars cry out to the likes of Robin Williams, Sally Field and Kreayshawn for help. Nirvana is achieved. --- [NO BARKLEY NO PEACE] |
If
there is any consolation, r/lol is now cracking down on blatant rally
threads now so Draven in theory should be weaker round 4 and the final
assuming Riot doesn't bow down to everyone literally begging them to
give out Draven related prizes for him winning the contest like that
other reddit thread. |
At least the Hyrule Screwjob will be added to contest lore. Allen saying the downtime didn't affect anything because people could have voted at other times. The
only thing I found disagreeable about Allen's response was the 'they
could have voted later' remark. All the momentum Link had going for him
hit a complete wall when the site went down, which is a huge part of
these comebacks. Taking that away from him, and letting Draven come back
equipped to start over and rebuild the lead, really did cost Link the
match. It's not so much about trying to favor Link over Draven but to
make it a fair match in general. Why not cut out 90 minutes of Draven's

could have sworn I picked Mewtwo to win the division but then I checked
my bracket and I realized I picked Sonic to win, all that when I picked

It has to be a top 20 match because of the s***-storm alone. But it's also so gross, so poorly handled that it cannot be #1. Even if Link had finished his comeback, Allen's attitude was so bad I'm not sure the biggest comeback ever could make up for it. It's a great match, but Draven won it based on, very possibly, three layers of cheating - stuffing (more for Draven than Link), a DDoS, and the lack of an extension to make up for the DDoS. One of these 3 certainly happened. If the other two did those are just nails in the coffin. I'll also add that Link made two of the biggest comebacks of all time, maybe the two biggest. --- XIII_rocks, the cream of XIII fanboyism. |

I
can't remember the last time I was so interested in a Link match. You
could say 2007, but we all knew L-Block had that s***, it was all over
by the shouting. I guess '04 when he came back from his loss ot Cloud in
'03. I actually found myself rooting for Link, of all the f***in'
characters, and that hasn't happen in a decade. --- Also since people will probably ask, we are indeed checking into the legitimacy of all incoming votes and so far, everything appears to be legit. - SBAllen |

It's
a shame, up until this I was thinking Sonic actually had a pretty good
contest, he seemed to retain most of his strength, and I thought he
could 6th or 7th on the Noble Nine totem pole (Spot with Mega Man's
debatable, but Mega Man's looked beast this contest. I'd easily take
Sonic over Crono, and Sonic vs. Sephiroth would have been a battle that
Sonic might win in a 24 hour match) he just ran into pokemon, which has

OK,here is the data http://i.imgur.com/IWGCYry.png (Values in red are when the site was down) Using the 60 minutes before the downtime (and using an extra update because Draven spiked there,so let's give an advantage) From 11:11 to 12:16,Draven got 1500 votes (23.076 per minute) From 11:11 to 12:16,Link got 2537 votes (39.03 per minute) Site went down after the 12:16 update,but some people still were able to submit votes Even after it went back up,there was a weak update and we calculcate it as part of the downtime From 12:16 to 13:51,Draven got 463 votes (5.1444 votes per minute) From 12:16 to 13:51,Link got 938 votes (10.422 per minute) Using the votes per minute before the downtime,and considering the downtime was 90 minutes (Allen says 85,but clearly those 5 minutes got less votes than before) Draven - 90*23.076 = 2077 Link - 90*39.03=3513 Using the downtime data Draven - 2077-463=1614 Link - 3513-938=2575 If the match continued like normal,we are looking for 1614 missing Draven votes during 90 minutes of downtime and 2575 missing votes from Link This gap of 961 votes in Link favor and the final lead of 765 clearly suggests Link could win this Adding the 3 updates post downtime are actually increasing the gap to 999 in favor of Link,so let's not go there - we already have a solid case |

not buying the downtime argument here. Sure, maybe not everyone who
would have voted then did, but I'm pretty sure at least 200 of them got

"plan" is to hope that we actually get another big contest within the
next 12 months, preferably a 1-on-1 Games Contest. The worst fallout

stand by that if you dont' like his decision then the best thing you
can do is simply not to help him. no pictures, no bios, no anything. let
him find it elsewhere if he wants it. he'll already have help from the

I
just read Allen's piece. It was well-thought-out and logically sound.
He isn't screwing anyone. He was stuck with 2 options and took one, then
stood up for himself. I appreciate that. I really do. Here's my problem. Allen plainly laid out that he had two options, one of which was unfair to Draven and the other of which was unfair to Link. No win. So basically, he could legitimately decide (with entirely fair logic) to side with reddit or with his own web site. He chose reddit. His decision wasn't unfair. But it feels like a betrayal. |
I think Pokemon just resists SFF in general. Pokemon fanboys are more rabid than Zelda fanboys. Rerun the best series contest, and I think Pokemon might actually take it.
