Also, keep in mind that Link doesn't have to win the match. He just has to get within 1,000-1,500 votes and then the downtime actually becomes relevant, and a rerun becomes a possibility.

While I agree that a precendent for a rerun has been set, the way things are now, this really isn't the same thing. I would love for the poll to be rerun and I don't think it'd be unjustfied, but the previous two situations were clearly different.

A) The glitch in G/S/C Vs. Xenogears was thought to be eliminating 80%* of the normal votes of a regular poll. That's a pretty big discrepancy that Pokemon might have been able to make up.
B) Ryu H./Jill Valentine was a 50/50 match, and any small shift in votals could have changed the result.

*In reality it might have been more like 66-70%, but at the time we didn't know how much of an effect the bonus polls at the top of the page were causing.

To be fair, you can vote as many times as you want on American Idol, so you can't really stuff. I may be biased because I found VFTW hilarious during its final years, though.

I'm of the mind that it's generally bad news, but if it's going to be one sided, then the other side might as well! Rallies, vote stuffing, whatever - it's gross when one side is doing it, but the 'best' matches usually end up with both.
