I'd
take Zelda over Charizard 1v1, for sure, even accounting for rally
strength. I don't think this result is something impressive for
Charizard, all things considered. Most people didn't even think Zelda

Everyone knew Charizard's 47% against Mario was inflated; I don't think anyone sincerely took that as the Dragon's base, intrinsic strength. He got the job done and he's still a big favorite next match, and he's now beaten (assuming this result holds) a near-elite from the Mario and Zelda series. If anyone here wants to take him to lose to a non-Nintendo near elite in the next contest, then all I can say is that I question that decision. You think Zelda is stronger than every single non-Nintendo near-elite in the contest? Zelda
and Charizard can easily perform differently against the non-Nintendo
near elites. This is a pure, 100% SFF match and should already be taken
with a grain of a salt as a metric for gauging base strength. I can very
easily see these two splitting the result against Auron, for example
(Zelda losing and Charizard winning). In any case, Charizard will not be
dropping matches to the Vincents and Dantes of the world. You've gotta
hope he draws Squall or Auron in a night match and hope the rallies

Charizard/Bowser
as a legit match? The one that took place on the HG/SS release? Eh.
That Charizard had much more in common with the one that put 46.5% on
Mario than the one that got 54.5% on Kratos. Hold that match again in
round one over 24 hours on a neutral day and I'd bet a fair amount that

It's
perfectly valid, just an observation! And probably more evidence to
throw on the pile for Samus, especially since if rSFF exists between her
and Mario there's a good chance it actually matters (as in, Samus beating someone that Mario can't). Also, Squall at least took the full fury of Pokemon's rallying power and just kept rolling. Although
with everything from that division bombing, and Mario himself doing
badly... maybe those results weren't as weird as we thought! You could
argue Big Boss' win was the exception, but he was aided by Ness and the

my 50/50 Match System seems to be working again! I don't really know

Cloud
is possibly more vulnerable to Squirtle in my estimation than Squall
would be. FF7 incites almost insane lengths in attempts to put them
down, which are just exaggerated by the format and pitifully low votals.
Obviously it would still function as a reevaluating factor, but for the
moment Squall > Charizard seems like a good bet, especially since
Charizard would have his bracket advantage fall out from under him after

think people would forget about this match affecting his future bracket
advantage if he easily beats Mega Man next round. Few people really
considered his bad 2010 match (Kratos) when evaluating this match. If

Lots of people have never lost to a non-NNer 1v1, that's not really an excuse so much as it is favorable bracket placement and/or format. against Draven if this is the best rallying their fanbases can do. |

consider how amazing this is: Pokemon Trainer Red is probably the
biggest lock to reach the Final 9. I'd honestly, no-BS give Kefka a
better shot at upsetting Snake than I would at Red somehow dropping his

Mario/Crono V happening is kind of awesome. It's a little sad, though. It's a symbol of the "old" contests, when things were simpler and a bit more isolated. The Mario/Crono rivalry is almost a relic. Then, in the next match, we get the ultimate powerhouse of these contests going down to a reddit rally - and that is what these contests are now. --- XIII_rocks, the cream of XIII fanboyism. |
