I love Vivi, but he really is not *that* strong. He's slightly above Tidus and Rikku - which is still good, but yeah. Sonic gets 61.5% on him in 2010 based on very fair comparisons, and Mario should be quite a bit stronger than Sonic.

If you compare to the Big Boss/Luigi match and Bowser/Sub Zero match, that would mean there's about 800 rallied votes so far.

If you assumed a 12.5% 75% 12.5% split for the rallied votes, the results would be.

Mario: 44.45%
Vivi: 37.53%
Ganondorf: 18.02%

Your misjudging the mindset of the rally voters. Nothing matters to them except whichever option is funniest. I wouldn't be surprised if the rally was 90/10 in favor of Vivi

there was a pre-rally thread deciding who our choice would be. Some wanted ganondorf and they respected the majority wish for Vivi and changed their vote. There's always going to be rogues and trolls but most will respect the majority decision of /v/ even if its not their personal choice. People don't really care who wins a gamefaqs poll anyway, it's more about the subplot of having involvement and causing surprise.

There are only 2 Noble Niners who do not look worse than they did in previous years: Solid Snake and Samus Aran.

And the latter could be a fraud in waiting. Samus is the only character this contest not to have deboosted from a disappointing game, and other characters reliant on their design and Smash Bros. appeal have bombed this contest.

Yeah, we need to get Freaking Mario into one of these contests.

Oh, yeah, and it's a day match. Nintendo v Final Fantasy in a day match. Mario reaching the finals is a very dim hope right now. Even if he can slip past Vivi today (ya go my Vivi), he's potentially dealing with Mario/Squall/Red (if Missingno slips through he'll be saved, so he should hope for that) and then he's probably dead in the water against Charizard now.

Because I think Squall has a shot a scoring a real honest upset against him next round and I want to see it happen. Squall is in my top five favorite characters and he's gotten screwed in facing Snake or getting hosed out of his big chance against Sonic every single damn contest. It's high time he got a real shot at the NN and Mario+Red is a great chance.

Samus needs to be on watch against the Block because there's no telling if she's actually weaker. The performance on Catherine was 'eh' and she ended up SFFing Knuckles down to Catherine tier so there's no way to really tell.
