er...do we ever get a list of how many nominations each character received? |

Can you ever see a Frog/Master Chief again in a 12 hour match? How about a Halo/StarCraft? What if FFX/MM had been a 12 hour match? Half day matches are a blight on the contest and need to go. I think the first round should always be 12 hour matches, they are mostly mismatches anyway. 2nd round and beyond should be 24 hour though. Actually I wouldn't mind a 3-way 12 hour match 1st round, with 2nd round onwards then being 1v1 24 hour. Imma
take some heat for saying this, but I'm gonna say it anyway. I think
there might be a re-run of Zelda 2k4 coming up, except this time it's
Pokemon that looks completely imperious for the first couple of rounds
and then falls like dominoes one after the other. Cloud and Sonic are a
big step up from Dante and suited, fallen Vincent. Sora gets the lucky
bracket placement this time around. Mega Man as a series has looked
super-strong, and even if Missingno takes care of Squall beating Mario

Well
the seeds are obviously rigged to fit themes, so I don't know if we can
take them very seriously. Regardless you can't really put the genie
back into the bottle, so to speak. The solution to Aeris making the
Sweet Sixteen two years straight and Tifa nearly beating Samus shouldn't
have been them missing the bracket in the immediately following years.
Success shouldn't be punished either. I'd rather simply limit us to a
traditional 64 character bracket and have nominations weed out the less
popular characters naturally. Back in the day, we *should* have gotten more FF7 characters rather than so much of the random fodder we had. And we should get some more good Pokemon in (e.g. Blastoise, who's probably stronger than Squirtle - why did Squirtle make it again?) The main thing is that any non-RBY Pokemon should be stamped out like the plague. They are unworthy and just clutter the bracket, adding to PokeHATE. UItimaterializer posted... A character who is not popular, winning a popularity contest, is why everyone here has lost so much interest. If Draven was legit popular you'd hear less complaints. It
would be almost unfathomable if Pokemon were shut out of the Final Nine
like Zelda was shut out in 2004. Going down the setups... Mario/Squall/Red - Okay, this one is pretty much a done deal... assuming this doesn't turn into some Mario/Bowser v Trainers proxy or similar. Even worse for Red if Missingno makes it. Pikachu/Sora/Blue - Yeah, Pokemon should get shut out here, unless Sora has completely fallen off a cliff and then some or Nathan Drake pulls a ridiculous miracle out of his ass. Cloud/Squirtle/Leon - Cloud should beat Squirtle... I guess, especially since it's 24 hours. The frenzy to kill FF7 could make something ridiculous happen though. Sonic/Mewtwo/Bowser - Maybe Bowser hurts Mewtwo more than Sonic, but I'm skeptical. I'm more convinced of the opposite, and thus Sonic is in real danger of getting upset. Mega Man/Zero/Charizard - Impossible for Charizard to get shut out here, damn near a lock unless Rikku can somehow sneak in. having multiple matches going on at the same time hurt the contest? if
not it would be a good way to have more characters but not take forever.

The
main thing is that any non-RBY Pokemon should be stamped out like the
plague. They are unworthy and just clutter the bracket, adding to
PokeHATE. I don't see too many more Pokemon getting tested out besides a flavour of the contest type character. Zero's leeching powers are light years beyond Magus'. If Zard blows that match, it becomes one of the biggest turds of the contest. It would be ridiculous. Zard has a better shot at losing to Zelda than losing to Mega Man. In fact I'd say Zelda had a non-trivial chance of beating Zard if DK wasn't there. I
still like 12-hour matches for the first round. Not averse to them in
the second either, especially in a 1v1 setting. I think 128 entrants is
about the right size. 243 is fine once but I don't especially want to

kind of ruined new characters for a 128 bracket, honestly I would not
be surprised if the next contest is a 128 character battle and less than

We can still get in new worthwhile characters, we just need to be smart about it. At the time of my post, Crono needed 76.8% of Magus's votes to be 50%+1 vote against Pikachu. In Fox's case, he's 50%+1 against Blue with 76.2% of Wolf's vote. Even the safest of prognosticators would say that both matches are a virtual tie at worst. Realistically, Crono and Fox would have beaten their Pokemon counterparts 1v1. --- I pwn you all! |
