Let's acknowledge that a huge part of this here is Dante bombing. I mean there's only so high that you can take Ramza in the X-Stats, and even assuming Squirtle 70/30's him in a 24 hour match, that only really puts him around 28 or so on BL.

Dante could still be hurt by DmC even without a DmC picture. I picked Shadow to win the Shadow/Leon/Gordon match, but I don't base it on anything. Just trying for an upset really.

It still boggles my mind that we got DmC instead of DMC5. You people talk about Resident Evil 6 bombing, but that was at least an earnest attempt by a developer to make a cool new game that just failed miserably. DmC was like a tactical nuke targeted directly at the DMC fanbase.

Wasn't DmC a result of somebody trying to make it appeal more to a Western gaming audience or something? Japanese developers just need to make games how they have been instead of trying to make them Western since they just make their games terrible >_>

Shadow's also probably the most favorable guy to advance out of next round for Cloud if Leon's RE6 picture tanks him. Cloud/Squirtle/Shadow is not an advantageous setup for Squirtle. Still think the smart money's on Gordon, though.

Part of DmC's marketing was literally to claim that the the DMC series was stale and that no one wanted it anymore, and they actually did a good job of convincing stupid reviewers of that so I'm not even sure that can bring back the old series without consequences. What DmC game accomplished:

-Alienated old fans, who didn't buy the game and hated the new direction
-Publicly soiled the entire DMC name as a necessity to try and prop up the new game as better
-Brought in few new fans, who stopped caring a week after the game came out
-Replaced the icon of the action game genre with a walking, talking turd

Absolutely amazing. Dante is dead, gentlemen. Bless his 80s-action-movie-fueled soul.

Yep. Dante's last relevant game was 2008, and DMC is hardly a GameFAQs staple as it is, and on top of that, DmC enjoyed a ton of backlash for the longest time, sold pretty bad, and put a question mark on the series going forward. All that together, and a more hardcore GameFAQs audience, I can believe Dante's worse off than he's been in a long time.

Nobody played Portable Ops (hence why my Game Script for it was so popular <_<). I don't believe this is all DmC, but Samus is probably not at her 2010 peak post-Other M.

I don't think DmC has hurt original Dante, fact is he hasn't had any relevant games in a while. DMC HD collection would have boosted him a tiny bit but that came out like mid 2012.

I think the only characters that would have been hurt badly by bad games is Chris Redfield.

Kratos could've been hurt by God of War 3. It was an awesome game, but I think a lot of people hated the ending. Sure he got some somewhat recent prequel game or whatever, but GoW3's ending is the only thing I can think of for why Kratos would look so bad against Travis and Recette.

Also a lot of the "badass" type characters(male ones) have declined. Master Chief was abysmal, Kratos looked average and Ezio/Altair didn't look good either. The most impressive badass so far has been Wrex.

Don't really agree with the idea that bad games do nothing to a character's standing. Just one random spinoff in a series that gets consistent releases, sure, it's not gonna do much. But a bad game in a series that gets releases spread out? That can hurt, especially for someone like Dante.

tbh even a million isn't terrible. Metroid other M sold under a million on a 100M+ userbase. It did worse but doesn't get as much hate as DmC. Other M is thw worst selling mainline metroid title.

Also strange how they don't add RE4 sales up. It's @ 5.8 if you add all 3 versions. But probably well ove 6 million if you include the 360/Ps3 digital sales and PC sales.

Yeah but people care about MGS characters for reasons outside design and marketing. There's a strong attachment to those guys that characters like Dante and Kratos simply don't have. I'm hoping that Leon has that attachment with voters because RE4 was just such a landmark game, but who knows. I'm honestly far more worried about the RE6 picture than anything else. A few people already commented on not being able to recognize the guy, and that scared me. If he had gotten RE4 art, I'd take him for first and breathe easy about it.

Squirtle could be as high as the #2 pokemon, though I wouldn't personally take him there. no one should be surprised that he has strength.

I heard that Jigglypuff is generally hated outside Japan. Then again, it was from TV Tropes.

I can't imagine Squirtle being weaker than someone like Charmander or Bulbasaur. I just get the feeling that Squirtle is way more well-known than any Pokemon we haven't gotten into a contest. Brawl doesn't help.
